I've looked through this subreddit to see answers for this question but the comment sections are either empty and uninformative, or arguing with each other.

Someone will say "bluestacks!" and then another person will say "no it mines crypto and slows ur PC!" and then someone says "mumu!" and then someone will say "bluestacks is best performance wise" and then someone says "I got bluestacks and now my PC won't turn on" and the cycle continues.

My deepest apologies for my worrying, I just want to know what is best, I don't mind big capitalist countries selling my data to show me different ads, I just mind the everything else.

  • there are no Android emulators recommended by EmuGen Wiki:

    https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Android_emulators

and they are not trusted because they are not pure emulators free of embedded malware.

in this sense, it seems very naive to believe that "benevolent adware" exists.

of course, you are free to use all the non-recommended emulators and thus have access to all remote monitoring methods, and be exposed to all kinds of malicious ads, and any other malware that the compassionate hearts of developers allow them to profit from at the expense of their customers.

if none of that is a problem for you, then either one will do.

another alternative, with less support for games but generally more free from threats, is virtualization.

virtual machine manufacturers tend to be reputable, and therefore more trustworthy.

    • VMware Workstation (Windows), qemu-kvm + virt-manager (on linux)

these above are good options, and you can try the following x86_64 builds of Android on them:

    • Bliss OS [android 13..11], PrimeOS [android 11]
    • andex [android 11..4], android-x86 [android 9]

in any case, I would recommend using ad blockers while browsing, such as uBlock Origin, including on virtualized Android browsers, as well as DNS servers that block malware and ads.

AdGuard DNS (Default), CIRA Canadian Shield DNS (Protected), CleanBrowsing (Security Filter), Mullvad (Ad + malware blocking), and Quad9 (Standard) are good options.

Cisco OpenDNS (Standard) it is also an option with solid service. no ad blocking, just malware.

May I ask if mumu is safer than bluestacks? I don't mind them selling my data for ads, just scared of anything else that could mess with my laptop.

it's difficult to make that statement, especially since the two were highly competitive products.

in terms of overall performance, I believe they offered virtually the same performance.

however, in the case of your favorite game, it's best to test it.

there may be differences in certain games even if, on average, the performance is the same.

  • MuMuPlayer imo, it's made by huge game company NetEase and is ad free and works great

  • Safest route is always Bliss OS or Android x86 under a virtual machine. Ads may contain malware so you should be worried about everything if you don't sand box your Android setup from everything else. Problem is learning curve may be a little step.

If you don't mind crypto miners, key loggers, bloatware software, security risks, network sniffers, etcetera just use anything else. Bear in mind is preferable you better not use that Windows setup for sensitive personal data like consulting bank data or fill in administrative forms.

  • Google has playstore for pc too right? Though i guess you can only play games downloaded from playstore, that are supported for pc too

  • Bluestacks, mumu, bignox, ldplayer and few others i had on pc rotating, because they were ad infested or acted weirdly as others said. Doesn't matter some versions was just fucked over for financial gains. I also haven't used one for years after Google Play Store PC was made by google themselfes, then i also got second phone and phone controller so since then absolute nothing.

  • The only one not made by predators is the official android SDK which is of course not made with our use cases in mind at all. Or a virtual machine which can be a pain in the ass and adds a lot of overhead that low end PCs can't handle.

  • You can download Google play for pc. It comes straight from Google.
