  • We couldn’t resist planning this announcement on 12/21 at 21:00 CET (French) — 12:00 PM PST (US), which is pretty funny too: both the date and the time create this mirror effect, just like the builds (v12 → Build 21).

After more than a year since Macdu’s v12 build (June 2024… yes, that old), we finally have a new Android build, rebased on the current master.

Build 21 is now available, and our main version is bumped to v0.2.1. The Android code is now fully merged into the master, meaning there is a single unified repository from now on. Android builds will be updated alongside the master, making future updates easier and more consistent.

Note: this build is still WIP (work in progress), so you may encounter bugs or instability.

It’s also important to set expectations: this release does not bring major Android-specific performance or feature improvements.

This is essentially the Android code from v12 ported and rebased onto the latest master.

Unlike previous Android builds by Macdu, which often included Android-specific optimizations, this release is mainly about alignment and unification, so don’t expect huge visible changes.

The goal here is to fully unify Android with the main Vita3K codebase, making it easier to maintain and, most importantly, allowing everyone to contribute to the Android code, which wasn’t really possible before.

    Changelog:

    • Rebased Android build on master
    • Added PS button support and improved default overlay button positioning (they used to go off-screen on the right and bottom). The Back swipe gesture is still available, with the PS button as an alternative.
    • Fixed dialog positioning and aspect ratio issues
    • Integrated Android into the built-in Vita3K updater (auto/manual update, same behavior as desktop)

Everything else is mainly under-the-hood improvements.

We also want to apologize for the long silence — Macdu has been busy with another project, which limited updates over the past year. Happy Holidays!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2026! Thank you for your support, and enjoy exploring this new build!

Does this update Macdu's Vita3k or is it a separate app like Vita3k ZX?

Edit: No it won't let you update Macdu's release, in fact if you want to install this you will have to uninstall Macdu's version first. If the games you are playing are working fine then ignore this version. If the ones you want to play aren't working then you lose nothing by trying it.

This version has less broken shaders than the zx version in sly 4. I had to choose a specific vulkan stencil to fix most of the graphical bugs in sly 4. Notable the silent sprint does not have broken graphics like the zx version which still has a weird spectral artifact even with the correct stencil option chosen. This is on snapdragon btw, 8 gen 3. I wanted to add this tidbit since sly 4 is now playable on android. Completely playable in my opinion, most of the remaining glitches are stuff like rare z buffer glitches.

*I tried to use the updated 1.01 version with PSTV support and it tanked the performance. Keep it at 1.00.

  • Vita lives

  • Hmmm... 32 assets with multiple apks marked 3845. Any details on what's the difference between the files?

I didn't realize it had done that, it's back to normal lol

  • I've deleted manually my previous version and tried to install this one but it says "Do you want to update.." while I clearly deleted Vita3K? Maybe something messed up since i didn't have free space at all.

Does anyone have the same problem? Even though I have a 4GB free asks to update the app when there is no app installed.. so if I press yes then it doesn't get installed..

Phone Used: Motorola Edge 30 Ultra, OS: Android 14

p.s ok checking with AppManager it seems was uninstalled without clearing data and signature. It asks to uninstall it anyway but it fails. So quick solution for non-rooted phones: Shizuku + aShell (so we don't have to use PC), then:

adb shell pm enable --user 0 org.vita3k.emulator

    adb shell pm uninstall org.vita3k.emulator

Now Vita3K can be installed normally..

    Oh, that's interesting 🤔

  • Vpks are not supported anymore? You mean the unofficial ports and homebrews?

those are supported iirc, whats not supported is commercial game VPKs which are usually vitamin dumps, they are not supported because quite frankly, quite a few of them are busted. any good dump will typically be a pkg file.

Yeah, I know they don't support busted commercial vpk viles. Was worried for a second.

Updated to newest version and my homebrews in vpk format work well, no worries here.

    Of course!

Commercial vpks were never supported on Android at least, only on early versions of the PC version. Homebrews in vpk seem to work fine.

Ah, that's normal, you're talking about games in Vitamin Dump format, it's the same on PC, they've always been incompatible

I tried to install numerous vpks and it says it’s unsupported so I used pkgs instead

  • Should I update my vita3k emulator? It's say update

  • Offtopic but the ubuntu release is x86_64 right ? Are any arm64 Linux builds planned in the future ?
