But now I can’t get high and drive the day after without getting swabbed and a DUI. My dealer was a nice guy I would have preferred to go to him and be able to drive days after I smoke a joint.

But dispensaries have upped the weed game for sure.

I could make a long list of criticisms of JT, and still argue that he was the least-terrible PM we’ve had in 40 years. Happy bday.

Nah, pretty sure Chretien was the most least terrible PM

You mean the guy who recently admitted to give "fast pass" to people who were waiting for their citizenship so the Quebec referendum would fail?

Mind you, I'm no separatist, but as pope Leo said "I love democracy" and to fuck with a referendum, to me, is the most anti-democratic thing one can do..

I think Trudeau was just a terrible as all the other PMs we've had. They all suck.

Edit: my goodness people are really sensitive about criticizing a Liberal.

    parent root
    18 points Dorkwing

He wasn't good, but wasn't the worst either.
I also really wish that Jack could have had a kick at the can too. (Assuming the user name isn't 100% ironic)

    parent root

I can vouch for the dead man’s moustache. He’s active in both /r/CanadaPolitics and /r/NDP, and he’s definitely a fan of old Jack.

    parent root

People all sexually emotional about JT while ignoring smith and ford is quite a tell.

JT remained because conservatives wanted foreign backed conservative clowns.

Had they fielded an half decent Serious candidate JT would have been gone a long time ago.

    parent root
    7 points JackLaytonsMoustache

Not ignoring any of them. Theyre all terrible. Ford is a con artist and Smith is crazy and dangerous.

It doesn't change the fact that Trudeau wasn't a good PM.

    parent root
    5 points cgsur

Trudeau was a meh PM, with a taint of corruption, and many rightfully wanted to move on.

But conservatives whiffed trying to push easily manipulated candidates.

There are no perfect political parties in Canada.

But parties trying to get you voting emotionally with lies, hate, religion are not looking out for Canada.

    parent root
    8 points JackLaytonsMoustache

I mean we can look at his record objectively and measure up pretty quickly that he was mediocre at best.

I'm not part of the fuck Trudeau crowd, but I know people automatically assume that when you criticize a Liberal.

Housing is not solely his responsibility, that goes back decades at all three levels of government, but housing prices doubled under his watch.

Electoral reform was a massive lie.

He claimed to be a feminist and openly disrespected any female minister who didn't do as they were told.

He claimed to be a champion of the environment but he bought a pipeline and made no measurable impact on reducing our carbon emissions.

So, mediocre at best. He legalized weed. I think he did a lot to move forward the conversation on reconciliation, though he also spent millions fighting survivors of residential schools in court. I don't think he's a terrible person, he's not the worst PM ever, but people are already glossing over his shitty record.

    parent root
    5 points Acrobatic-Tower6127

I agree with everything you said and also agree that JT was the least worst PM in the last 40 years. Do you think any other PM in the last 40 was better? Honest question, curious who you would peg as not worse.

    parent root
    3 points Dragonsandman

Legalizing weed on its own is enough for me to elevate him from terrible to mid. And his broken electoral reform promise keeps him down at mid for me

    parent root
    3 points ThePhatEskimo

It's a liberal circle jerk in this sub with tons of tax payer bots. If you don't get on your knees and praise JT for the laughable, at best job, he did then you will downvoted to oblivion.

    parent root

Short of the COVID immigration policies affecting rental pricing, your complaints seem like provincially controlled things. You should be mad at your Provincial Government.

    parent root
    9 points iwasnotarobot

Stop blaming the PM for the greed of our capitalist oligarchy.

If you’re mad about grocery prices go to galen weston’s house to tell him. If you’re mad about wage suppression, go to galen weston’s house to tell him. If you’re mad about the cost of education, go to galen weston’s house to tell him. If you’re mad about the cost of housing, go to galen weston’s house to tell him.

Government does what billionaire oligarchs tell them to. If you don’t like that, you might be a socialist.

Not really. Canadian politics is a farce where everyone fools each other, gets highly polarized, and people are easily manipulated. Most of the time you end up having an idiot who knows how to sway people’s opinions even though he is completely lacking in every aspect necessary to lead a country. That applies to Pierre as much as it applies to Justin.

I’m glad Carney’s here. At least he isn’t a drama teacher and is actually qualified for a big part of the role.

Justin instead managed to play everyone. For me to enter a mosque to attend the Friday prayers, and here an imam stating - in a blatant disregard of the commandments of the religion - that “voting for Justin Trudeau is a religious duty because he will save the Muslims in Canada”, then ultimately become a political pawn just because Justin has managed to influence people into believing that he can really change things, is absurd.

Justin is a people pleaser, not really a leader. Unfortunately, Canadians are gullible - and that’s a reality. Canada hasn’t been doing great under Justin’s leadership, the economy is at an all-time law, talents have abandoned Canada over the last decade or more and immigrated to the US, even AI - to whose was mostly laid by Canadians - was taken for us because of Trudeau’s policies that drove talent away and ruined our economy. Carney’s here to fix the horrid things that Justin has done, and I for sure hope that he can stay in power until we could see his policies repairing - which often, in complex systems such as governance and economy, tend to take time (i.e., a policy, once enacted, for people to see its actual effect needs an ample duration of time) In Carney’s case, I hope he remains as Prime Minister until we start seeing that. But it’s unfortunate we’ve seen Justin’s policies - and the rampant corruption in the government - do things and yet we keep praising the dude.

I don’t care about the amount of negative upvotes I get for voicing my opinion about him being an amazing actor, perhaps even a con artist, who has managed to con the Canadian people. I believe it and I still see it. It has nothing to do with the petty Liberal vs. Conservative squabble. It has to do with that specific politician.

Unfortunately, when politics become a form of entertainment, idiots such as the uneducated PP and fame-thirsty JT can actually have a chance at manipulating the affairs of the country and playing the people. I’ve seen it happen in third world countries, and I daresay that Canada is only lucky because it has a small population; the majority of which - as we can evidently see, including myself - are immigrants.

As an immigrant, I do not engage in voting. I choose not to. I can only evaluate things in retrospect, and I am certainly not qualified to evaluate a politician (and I hold a PhD).

I honestly have no idea about the astronaut thing. I just don’t like the guy, and I’m glad he’s gone. He’s certainly no savior figure. That’s my opinion.

EDIT: Now that I’ve written all that I just noticed the no politics flair. I should use Reddit less.
