How do you know he’s not already on 6 figures? My job is pretty well paid and moving to the US would bump it but not astronomically. So yes, if the bump would come with having to support their shit stain of a leader and his corrupt ideologies, yep hard pass from me and won’t miss not going one bit.
I dunno I guess some people in the US are really emotionally invested in the US being “Number One!” and struggle to understand that plenty of people in the world really do not see the US in the same light.
This assumes everyone is in their right mind. The real reason it is fake is that no one who has $230K to spend on an employee would hire someone who was obviously not in their right mind like this person.
As a recruiter i would be livid if this were true and i had a candidate tell me "lol, jk. your president sucks so imma stay here and make a fraction of that salary. Thats a lot of time wasted vetting and interviewing. Also, (before incentives) $230k is more than most SVP positions further pushing the needle to pants on fire. ALSO, who the fuck applies, entertains the multiple rounds of interviews, gets the offer letter then decides to rug-pull because they dont like the president?
Again it obviously did not. This person failed the interview process and then turned it into a morality tale to explain why they aren’t there for their credulous fam and friends.
Unless they were already being paid a good salary and the state of the USA combined with having to move away from family and friends may not have made a 15-20% pay raise worth it.
Your reasoning that it must be fake because money, is stupid. I know people who took a 20% pay hit moving out of the USA but still did it because they wanted to leave the country. Why is it weird someone wouldn't accept a similar difference in salary in order to stay where they have already set their life up?
I don't know about political opponents but I would definitely turn down a job with that salary if it requires I relocate to somewhere I don't want to live.
Idk man. I didn't quite do that, but I turned down a preferred 6 figure offer for a less desirable 6 figure offer for political reasons. I don't know why we're clowning someone for trying to live in a way that aligns with their values.
1 - It's on Reddit, it inherently leans towards being fake.
2 - Not only is it on reddit, the person posting it is a self proclaimed Communist Socialist out of Denmark turning down $1,459,057 DKK annually purely because orange man bad.
They're either an idiot incapable of doing even surface level research into why their fears are unfounded, schitzo posting on reddit for easy karma, or both.
$230k ain’t that damn much for a lot of different fields in many areas throughout the US. If you’re say a medical doctor living in most major cities (who are going to see a very high amount of patients) - you would laugh at $230k. Hell, if you’re in certain areas - welders and electricians would turn this down. You have to assume if he’s getting an overseas offer of that much, which means his company would also foot $100k a year for his visa - his skills are probably highly valued anywhere.
No offense but what’s the point of this comment? Clearly the guy in the image was offered a raise, not a pay cut. Obviously you shouldn’t take pay cuts to move
This has no relevance to the actual topic. If you are so out of touch you think $230k "isn't that damn much" you might want to check a few numbers.
The only way you're breaching $230k is senior execs, senior engineers in large firms, or owning a successful business. That is nearly 4x the average salary most Americans make.
So idk if you wanted to brag a bit or what, but as someone who worked my way into the six figures I at least remember where I came from and keep a level view of reality.
No, they totally chose to apply for a job in the US and went through multiple rounds of interviews to get offered the job just so they could decline it.
My brother has been offered job positions in foreign countries by large companies. Most of the offers was from the parent company of the business he works for offering to pay him more if he moves to Germany or the USA, but he did once get an offer from a competitor to move to California. He's declined all of the offers.
Facts. Highly doubt this is anything more than a BS fake post. If it's not a bot, it's more than likely someone that will never see a 6-figure salary their entire life.
Many of the jobs paying over $150,000 are being filled by foreign contractors, simply because the US doesn't have the skills needed to handle the many jobs posted. This is for many high paying jobs such as Developer, Software Engineer, Full Stack Engineer, even basic things like engineers (electrical, wiring) are being filled by foreign workers
My current job which is a tech company in the Fortune 100 has roughly 14,000 contractors at these levels of pay. We have an additional 20,000~ at the $100,000~$125,000 range. This is their pay band AFTER going through their 3rd party intermediary, which means these paybands would likely pay $25,000~$75,000 more if you got the job on your own without a 3rd party contractor interfacing for you.
If you dont want to be jealous, go to school for these jobs so we don't have to outsource them.
You aren't gonna get offered 230k off an indeed listing anyways, you're gonna go through multiple rounds of interviews and jump through other hoops before getting that offer. No one is going to do that, get an offer, then yoinks out afterwards.
Reminds me of when I was dating this kinda basic girl with boilerplate leftist pop culture beliefs. We visited Denmark, which was the capital of her fantasy, a beautiful European city filled with progressives and every little thing an American pop culture leftist would want.
When we started to meet a few of the locals, she would readily tell them how horrible America is and how everyone and everything is centered on work, typical basic American pop culture beliefs.
Each person we met in Denmark told us they'd move to America in a heartbeat if they had the opportunity. It absolutely blew her mind.
True. I can see it. I live in germany for 2 years that is a hell no for me lol. I feel like most americans would hate it unless they had a really good job there.
Dont get me wrong it is beautiful but looking at their house size and doing a quick google search of their income tax makes me not care about free college so much lol.
I would rather go to college on my own dime which i did. Healthcare needs to change here but idk about the german system
That’s correct, but not in a way that makes that story viable. I’ve spent more time in Europe than 99% of Americans. I have a ton of friends and colleagues in Europe. Some have lived in the US short term for work. Zero of them have ever expressed a desire to move to the US long-term. It’s hard to put an ocean between you and all your friends and family. It’s especially not happening for those in Denmark, consistently one of the happiest nations on earth way above the US, and a nation with higher median individual income than the US. There’s a reason there are very few Dane immigrants to the US in the past century, they choose not to come here. I’m not arguing the US is worse off, but it’s comparable - better in ways, worse in others. If Danes actually wanted to move to the US, they could in far larger numbers than they do.
Idk man, the majority of my family is from a European country, whenever they visit my mom in a relatively poor, not particularly interesting area of the conservative south that 95% of Reddit would say is an American Capitalist hellhole, they unanimously act as if they’re in paradise.
the worst part is the upvotes, aint no way people are believing him because it suits them better, both his story and that post's story is fake as fuck.
I got a lot of madness going on. I'm a public defender and my clients won't stop shoving crab legs in their pants at the grocery store. This shit cray cray, yo.
Probably just got a spam recruiter email and is falsely claiming it was an offer, if any part of this happened at all.
To believe this post would be to believe that this person went through phone screens and tech screens and interviews with this company only to realize it was based in the US after receiving an offer.
Doesn’t pass the smell test. I would bet all the money in the world against this happening.
or he is a software engineer who worked for a company who was acquired by an american company, and that american company offered him $230k to stay on and move to america... logically there is more then one way to get a job offer.
Im 100% sure the same person belive in "tax the rich". They also dont want to fund corrupt gov and they at least have prove for it, beacuse they are the ones who corrupt gov at first place
You probably don’t even believe I turned down a record breaking NFL, NBA, and Major league contract worth 50 billion dollars to avoid paying that much taxes to the Drumf regime fascist government.
It’s probably bullshit, but it’s highly unlikely that’s “set for a long time” money if it were true. That’s actually quite low total comp for big tech in the US, which is mostly in very high cost of living areas where $230K doesn’t go far at all.
If this were real (which it isnt)... couldn't you do a lot of good with that 230K? As a socialist? I dont mean "change the world", but I mean 230K USD is a fuckload of income. You could literally go around giving away winter coats to the homeless, helping single moms afford a bus pass and groceries, donate to Palestine for more rockets and Captain Crunch... I'm super confused. These people have 0 principles when it comes to actions. Its just all words and platitudes to them. They especially have no foresight ability, or critical thinking skills.
Its shit like this, why "evil greedy right wingers" give charity and help the poor at a 2:1 clip to the "good guys". Its just all a virtue signal. They'll vote to give your money away, they just wont work for it themselves and give it away (in any meaningful amount).
Growing up in all of the shitty neighborhoods in Southern California and having visited Chicago I really wish that people understood that most of the country is not anywhere near that bad.
you don't know european, i know many people that say to good jobs in the US, good salary yeah but they don't like the idea of move to US so stay in Europe.
You won't get arrested for praying. You won't get arrested for daring to be Jewish near a Muslim person. You won't get arrested for daring to comment on the color of ethnicity of your attacker. You won't get arrested for posting things online that aren't direct threats (ETA, and if you do, you will be making good money off the lawsuits.)
"Absolute madness" ? Where in America is this? I guess I just risked my life by going for a walk in my neighborhood. I definitely shouldn't have talked to all those smiling strangers. I could have been killed. I guess I got lucky at the grocery store too. America sucks. We can own firearms but don't really need them much. It is really expensive. I live in a very expensive part of the US and have a shit job but still am able to eat, drink, buy and do whatever I want. Good luck with that peace of mind goal. It doesn't sound like you'll ever get it with this mindset.
Tbf I’d give up mine (six figure job) for less pay if it meant I was somewhere with socialized programs. It would equal itself out that way and I’d have the safety of knowing it wouldn’t be tied to my job if I had full citizenship.
To be fair this is the most corrupted government in US history. He makes a valid point plus were about to start WW3 honestly wouldn't move here if I was from another country.
Let's see I could make $230K in the US and live in fear, all the time I was there, that ICE would throw me in prison without cause .... or I could go to a civilized country make the same or more and live without constant fear of being hated and imprisoned by the locals.
Yet, some people are just crazy.
What's really interesting that no one seems to mention is why are their now Americans capable of doing this job?
Maybe having an uneducated and uninformed population isn't the flex you think it is.
He's not wrong its pretty fuckin terrible here. We've got the Nazi party 1.1 in the Whitehouse fuckin shit up. Amongst a myriad of other problems. Shits wild, im headed to the woods as soon as I can...
Declining six figure salaries to own Donald Trump 😎😎😎
Worse than the dumb shit people do to "own the libs"
How do you know he’s not already on 6 figures? My job is pretty well paid and moving to the US would bump it but not astronomically. So yes, if the bump would come with having to support their shit stain of a leader and his corrupt ideologies, yep hard pass from me and won’t miss not going one bit.
I dunno I guess some people in the US are really emotionally invested in the US being “Number One!” and struggle to understand that plenty of people in the world really do not see the US in the same light.
Things that never actually happened for $1,000
It's so transparently fake to anyone with a brain.
There are people willing to ruin THEMSELVES just to spite others and call it moral.
This one is actually tame!
"And everyone clapped...... now give me updoots" type post from someone desperate for attention & validation
Yeah, it's just peak virtue signaling.
You just hit the Daily Diuble
100%
There aint a damn person in their right mind who'd turn down six figures just to own their perceived political opponents.
Ok, but you’d make that decision far before you got to an offer. No one gets a legit job offer at this level straight out of the blue.
It’s a months long process
Idk man. I didn't quite do that, but I turned down a preferred 6 figure offer for a less desirable 6 figure offer for political reasons. I don't know why we're clowning someone for trying to live in a way that aligns with their values.

Right?!! I have a job at this level, and I was recruited, went through five rounds of interviews and psych evaluation all prior to getting an offer.
No one goes through all of that to decline the position.

Things that never happened for $230,000
rule number 1, never believe any story people tell on reddit, especially on story specific subs like aita ect

Some things happen. This did not.
Agree! That NEVER IN NEVER OF NEVERNESSSSS!!!
Exactly.
Why did he apply for that job in the first place then? Just so he could flex online?
Let's make it a true daily double Alex

And it's today's daily double!
His tag is socialist pig with no up votes 🤣 Bro is living his best life in his dreams.
Well, if he's on, say 75% of that in Denmark (as the flag suggests) then yeah, I wouldn't uproot my whole life for a few extra pennies either.
I got a similar offer (185k but still close) back in 2019 but declined because we just a baby and my wife wanted to life closer to relatives.
Also it was in Florida and I can't stand humid heat.
I’ll take things that never happened for $500, Alex
You aren't gonna get offered 230k off an indeed listing anyways, you're gonna go through multiple rounds of interviews and jump through other hoops before getting that offer. No one is going to do that, get an offer, then yoinks out afterwards.
Never, ever happened.

Americans have no clue what life in Europe is actually like, and have no idea how rich they actually are compared to Europe
I think it goes both ways. The amount of bitter Europeans I see that think America is some poor dystopia shithole is crazy
True. I can see it. I live in germany for 2 years that is a hell no for me lol. I feel like most americans would hate it unless they had a really good job there.

What kills it for me is college software engineer incomes in Europe vs the US.
US figures around $110k-$145k+ (USD) versus Germany's €50k-€65k (roughly $54k-$70k USD),
It’s a defense mechanism: if everything is a shithole, then my hole doesn’t look like shit anymore.
You go to Europe and the people you meet are cool. You met an European online and they are the most smug asshole you will ever meet
Denmark, primarily white. Did you tell her that?
You took your date to Denmark?
LMAO. Nothing like countering never happened bullshit with your own never happened bullshit.

I knew a guy who moved to Amsterdam for a promotion. The location pay difference was more then his raise to VP
I don't know a single person who would turn down a quarter mill job
Someone with a half mill job
I'll take a $100k job in Mexico, this guy is either making stuff up or super privileged.
Probably making stuff up
Or he's already wealthy or making around the same amount or more already. I wouldn't take a job in the US for $230k.
I feel like this person is just using "The government is evil" as an excuse to stay lazy lol.
Yet they relay on the government for money and food 🤣
WHERE IS ALL THE MADNESS?? Fucking Europeans think America is just New York City and LA. There is no god damned madness here...
I got a lot of madness going on. I'm a public defender and my clients won't stop shoving crab legs in their pants at the grocery store. This shit cray cray, yo.
Truely a sign of end-stage capitalism!!!!
Good -- we don't need more doomers who think our government is "corrupt." (well, it is, but not any more than it has been for the past 50 years)
People making $300K?
Or any less than any other government out there.
Probably just got a spam recruiter email and is falsely claiming it was an offer, if any part of this happened at all.

Their whole perception of the U.S. is probably based on what they see on Reddit.
I'd bet my entire annual salary, pre-tax, that this didn't happen.
Just a classic Redditor daydreaming about being valuable and having worth.
Why $230,000? Why not $2.3 million if we are making up #s
Good. Maybe an American will get the job instead.
We have enough doomed here, we certainly don’t need to import any more.
You probably don’t even believe I turned down a record breaking NFL, NBA, and Major league contract worth 50 billion dollars to avoid paying that much taxes to the Drumf regime fascist government.
For $230k I’d work in Somalia
I don't know Minnesota is cold in the winter
Was not expecting that
Damn you got low standards man. That’s like upper middle class in 2025 in the US😅
($100k in 1990 is $250k in 2025)
Who’s gonna tell him every government is corrupt
So basically the person applied for a job and was turned down.
Happens all the time.
More realistically they didn't want to move to the USA and leave their community.
Lol what a dumbass
Awesome. If you don’t like America, or find out way of life triggering, 🇺🇸 please don’t come.
Also there is a point in maturity when you stop seeking external validation with your fake ass virtue signals on social networks.
See if you can find it.
They didn’t experience this, I know they didn’t because anyone with a brain would’ve taken that realizing they would’ve been set for a long time.
It’s probably bullshit, but it’s highly unlikely that’s “set for a long time” money if it were true. That’s actually quite low total comp for big tech in the US, which is mostly in very high cost of living areas where $230K doesn’t go far at all.
Honestly I hope they keep this view. I dont want the europoors coming here
If this were real (which it isnt)... couldn't you do a lot of good with that 230K? As a socialist? I dont mean "change the world", but I mean 230K USD is a fuckload of income. You could literally go around giving away winter coats to the homeless, helping single moms afford a bus pass and groceries, donate to Palestine for more rockets and Captain Crunch... Can I have it?
I'm in Canada, been laid off because of FTW, I'd happily go USA.
“Trust me bro”
It’s the typical karma farming, it’s a leftist feel good circle jerk, every up vote a little endorphin hit, instead of IRL interactions.
Good. Let the job go to an American.
JARVIS IM LOW ON KARMA, make a post about how I valiantly turned down more money for my family in favor of virtueposting on REDDIT 😎😎
What an absolute regard
"hey guys, I came up with this lie to make myself feel morally superior, now clap for how amazing I am and give me upvotes!!"
And then everyone clapped.
yeah because job offers just rain on this guy without him applying for them.
you don't know european, i know many people that say to good jobs in the US, good salary yeah but they don't like the idea of move to US so stay in Europe.
Anyone not taking the opportunity to move on to the US is taking a massive L
nah people have other priority and money is not everything, people enjoy their life even without be in the US
Im European... why would I want to move to your shithole country?
You won't get arrested for praying. You won't get arrested for daring to be Jewish near a Muslim person. You won't get arrested for daring to comment on the color of ethnicity of your attacker. You won't get arrested for posting things online that aren't direct threats (ETA, and if you do, you will be making good money off the lawsuits.)
Yes, I went through the interview process for a $230k job to have fun. Nope, wasn’t a scam or totally imagined.
What a hero
This story is less likely than an AmITheAsshole post.

Anybody got the job he turned down? I'll apply
Especially when the real reason to decline it would be for all the overtime. I like being at home with my family.
Wow, having moral spine really is something you cannot buy. Also fake af.
This level of stupidity should not be achievable, but it somehow is.
Its like bragging about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

I wouldn't move out of the country for that salary. Not for political reasons, but because moving to a different country is a huge under taking.
I’d do it as long as my work wouldn’t be locked behind a language barrier
I don’t like paying taxes here either too many people that shouldn’t be here with their hand in the cookie jar.
I would be willing to throw a dart at a map to decide where I live if it mean a 200k+ job
The tag checks out lol. I doubt this happen
Tbf I’d give up mine (six figure job) for less pay if it meant I was somewhere with socialized programs. It would equal itself out that way and I’d have the safety of knowing it wouldn’t be tied to my job if I had full citizenship.
Sure, Jan.
imagine being genuinely this stupid
Good.
I was offered to be the king of england but i said “no kings, 6-7 sigma rizz” rather than live in that mess!
I can understand to a degree. What is the government providing to you for your taxes in the US?
Whole lotta cope here.
Well, if he is getting offers like that, I think he will be alright
To be fair this is the most corrupted government in US history. He makes a valid point plus were about to start WW3 honestly wouldn't move here if I was from another country.
I mean if it wasn't for my family I'd have no reason to stay in this corrupt country
You should consider moving
