Yes some but I hate it when these are intended to represent the majority. There were probably plenty of people in 1999 who were also praying for the world to end.
It’s because they grew up being internet connected and that makes the world feel extremely small and accessible, so they conflate their own experiences WAY more broadly than they should. They don’t realize the internet experience is not a two way street. The entire world’s experience has an impact on them, but it’s not the other way around.
To be honest, I would describe myself as a doomer—that's why this sub is so refreshing. World events have been unfolding rapidly since the beginning of 2020, but what's much worse and more crucial is that you can follow everything live as it develops. When you engage with the world, you quickly tend to develop a doomsday mentality. Personally, a better understanding of history and subs like this one have helped me the most.
I agree with this, I actually think alot of the younger generation has recognized the pitfalls of constant connection and is rejecting much of it themselves too, much of your other point is agreeable as well.
The end rant was what gave raging vibes though , and that's what this guy comments are on I believe.
Reddit will never do anything. And to target just the left is bias, as there are right wing bots as well. Reddit will never change this though. This is their business model and the incentives to working for Reddit is power and not currency (unless you're an admin but ain't a ton of those), therefore it will never change. This causes discourse. Which results in engagement , win win for them. A sub will only ever be as good as the team moderating it and those are going to naturally have wild swings in moderation tactics and quality. Have you seen how many moderaters complaints come into r/help everyday?
I wonder what is it with smartphones that made kids that way. We had our handheld consoles of the day like PSPs and Gameboys but it didn't one shot us that much right?
Did your gameboy have a subreddit about """"Teenagers"""" that is astrosurfed by Leftist 40 years old Millennials who are trying to indoctrinate Teenagers into hating the world and calling anything that moves a nazzi?
I don't think your gameboy had that.
It's about damn time Reddit CEO cracked down HARD on all the Leftist astrosurfer bots on this website. Do we need to sell this thing to Musk for something to be done?!
It's not so much the smartphones themselves that are the problem it's the social media they have access to that's the issue. Social media is just that, social media, but it's also the most advanced propaganda machine ever created and it works. It works especially well on impressionable children and once those neural pathways are created it takes a tremendous personal effort to fix yourself.
Dramakid Opposing Opportunities Mocked Endlessly by Realists = DOOMER?
(C’mon now, someone can improve on that, I just woke up & mummy hasn’t brought me any breakfast yet….)
if you go in most of the DCJ posts & sort by new there’s always some sun worshipper trying to get the last word in to discredit what everyone’s talked about
Do not derail a topic or try and twist the subject in an effort to inject politics, agendas or other out-of-line subjects into posts when that is not the submission’s inherent purpose.
For me, it's someone that expects the worst out of a situation, conflating that with "I'm just being realistic", which if true, they'd have done something about it. But we all know that they won't and just keep saying "But muh economy will crash because gas price!"
Someone who seemingly enjoys obsessing over conspiratorial, end of the world nonsense. Whether that’s because they want to blame it for their own shortcomings or whatever.
It’s different than simply being pessimistic. There’s a massive chasm between disliking how things are vs trying to explain it with evil Nazi bigots that whine about paying taxes.
The latter sounds more exciting though so reactionaries prefer to believe it, because it’s fun for them. That’s about all there is to it.
I kind of agree with the memes sentiment. My parents brought me into this prison planet, and risked the damnation of my eternal soul just so they could have someone to take care of them when they’re older. Cringe
Sad but true with a lot of people ..
Sadly, this is what happens when people believe the world works like how the news, YouTubers, and online ppl say it does.
Yes some but I hate it when these are intended to represent the majority. There were probably plenty of people in 1999 who were also praying for the world to end.
Being superhyperbolic and alarmists for the most part, even if what they're saying is ridiculous and farfetched:
Oh, a dog bit a kid? That means ALL dogs will bite ALL kids if we don't ban dogs.
Oh, I'm doing bad in life? This means that EVERYONE is doing bad in life and it's because of [X] group!
Oh, there's no more ice cream at the shop? This means there will be NO MORE ICE CREAM EVER!!!

That's excellent. I have a doomer coworker whom I have concerns about. He is so intensely addicted to the doom that I worry he is suicidal.
Maybe those shit-ass Gen X parents shouldn't have given Zoomers a smartphone since they were in middle school.
Signed, a Zoomer who hates smartphones and was thus always ostracized in middle school because I didn't care about wHaTsAPp.
Do we want to dance around the obvious truth or do we just admit we messed up when we allowed kids to have phones?
Cheer up, at least you’re not typing in a rage with a broccoli cut and sporting flip-flops over socks.
Or are you?
I am cheerful. But I also don't sugarcoat it.
Anyone under the age of 16 or even 18 must not be allowed to use social media.
All nations should follow Australia's golden example.

I'm 43 years old and reddit suggests r/teenagers to me all the time. I'm sure the algorithm doesn't think I'm a teenager.
Excuse me, a what sub? I ordered turkey subs for a picnic with my friends! Just put the food in the bag, please. I don't want to be late!

Lack of internet on the handhelds vs always connected to this years brain-rot app of choice.

You mean the same GenX parents who would be arrested for raising their kids they way GenX was raised?
Stop Being Rude You piece of shit and Shut tf up you weirdos, No one likes rude people.
No, actually, I think I will just block you.
And I couldn't care any less about you people "liking" me. I'm not a normie.

Do not derail a topic or try and twist the subject in an effort to inject politics, agendas or other out-of-line subjects into posts when that is not the submission’s inherent purpose.
Rule 10: Remain On-Topic
For me, it's someone that expects the worst out of a situation, conflating that with "I'm just being realistic", which if true, they'd have done something about it. But we all know that they won't and just keep saying "But muh economy will crash because gas price!"
In 1999 a lot of people were freaking out because they thought the y2k would make civilization collapse.
This is what kickstarted the career of one Alex Jones.

Not a doomer, but this meme made me chuckle
Something about saying "I can't wait for the sun to explode" just grinds my gears On top of the doomerism, you're factually incorrect
You simpleton, the sun cannot "explode" the correct term would be "go supernova" because stars don't just explode
Secondly, our sun is not big enough to go supernova.
I can’t wait for the heat death of the universe because I’ll be dead by then
This is a stereotypical reddit behavior. 💀
I kind of agree with the memes sentiment. My parents brought me into this prison planet, and risked the damnation of my eternal soul just so they could have someone to take care of them when they’re older. Cringe
Oh, you're that kid at Christmas dinner, pouting over their mashed potatoes.
Congrats!
You’re in the wrong sub, stupid

Don't be a doomer. It’s just not cool. Let’s try to get back to reality, now.
Rule 1: Don’t Be a Doomer
Didn't they just want someone to love? Did they neglect you?
Go back to r/escapingprisonplanet
What the fuck was that place ?!?!? Holy smokes they’re batshit in there hahaha
This is what untreated mental illness and unrestricted access to internet does to mf
