That’s always their angle, “if you’re paying attention” or “if you were smart enough to see it”. They position themselves above you before you can even rebut them and think that’s how it somehow makes them correct.
it really bothers me how the phrases "if you're paying attention" / "capable of critical thinking" / "staying informed" have really become synonymized with having a screen addiction to political influencer social media accounts.
everyone who lectures me on this has a 12+ hour screentime per day and they're endlessly scrolling through koolaid-for-clicks. (cough aaron parnas)
i think its genuinely very sad how people don't know how to put down the phone and live their lives anymore.
being a NEET in your mom's basement is actually the objectively smartest thing you can do if you had an IQ as high as his. having a job, partner, life, etc? that's for chuds!
"If you were 'enlightened' like me, you would obviously agree with me. The fact that you don't agree with me simply proves that you aren't 'enlightened' like me."
It is more like mindset of so call climate activist blocking roads, doing eco terrorist or subreddit that hate cars.
Instead of helping their community to spread their message positively they do extreme stunts just to look like a clown for nano seconds of internet fame.
Hopefully this type of doom redditor never gone too extremist really believe wtf they are posting for fake internet points.
There are people in very wealthy countries who are poor and don’t have much. It’s the way the world works. You get what you make out of the world unless you are fortunate enough to be born wealthy or something like that.
You see, before the internet, this individual was living in a run down house on the outskirts of town. We never saw them because they never went out and they didn't have any friends, because they are crazy and everyone avoided them. Now they can congregate and proliferate their views.
Their position is unironically every human being has to be depressed and neurotic since the dawn of time because starvation exists. And then they insist they’re mentally sane
And they're posting that on Reddit. The complete lack of self awareness is hilarious.
Also, a simple way of not being fed processed foods is literally just cooking your own food from raw ingredients. You can even take vegetable scraps and grow new vegetables at home for free, it will also save money from the food budget that you can use to build savings or put towards housing expenses.
Anyone that makes the Peter Singer argument basically has to be a hypocrite because it’s pretty much impossible to actually follow this to its conclusion.
He’s essentially saying as long as there’s suffering in the world, you can’t have nice things.
Basically any dollar that you spend on yourself that could instead be used to feed a starving person, provide life-saving medication, etc is akin to murder. You’re a bad person for not being born in Cambodia.
ChatGPT could probably provide a more accurate explanation.
"Yet some human beings are without food, water, and shelter."
Yes, that will always be the case, because some people will outright destroy their environment and are a menace to others. Unless you subsidize and tolerate everyone, and have such resources that there is no scarcity, you cannot do this. But then you run the risk that such unproductives just multiply until they become such a burden that you cant support them anymore.
Ideally you build a society in which everyone CAN contribute, and are rewarded justly for their contribution. The point of civilization isnt to provide free shit for people bud. Its to reach greater heights than individuals can alone.
Do they understand to hundred of millions if not billions of people in the world, all the processed food, unaffordable housing and healthcare they so despise are all luxury?
Have they ever stopped to consider that "well adjusted" just means how you carry yourself in spite of your surroundings? Being well adjusted doesn't mean you conform to the society around you.
Sure, the world has some shit going on. But letting it get to you or shape how you act and then blaming others for not letting it do those things to them is just sad.
Tbf, housing, healthcare, and the job market can all be issues depending on where you live in the US.
As far as food, I think a lot of people just don't understand how to cook and eat cheaply. Often, it is cheaper to cook healthy at home than to eat processed foods. I just don't think a lot of Americans are willing to eat just rice and beans and vegetables and survive unlike most people on Earth.
Granted our President WAS mentored by a child sex Trafficker (Roy Cohn), IN BUSINESS (i wonder what kind), and best friends with a child sex trafficker (Jeffrey Epstein), and someone who definitely had sex with children (Bill Clinton, Jean-luc). And the Files did just confirm that he was an actual participant, so our President is also, infact, a child sex Trafficker/rapist. Ever wonder how that fatass John Wayne Gacy fit all those kids bodies under his crawl space? The crawl space he was too fat to fit in, let alone dig 29 holes? Remember the Franklin Scandal? There's plenty wrong with the world, but depression is never the answer. You do what you can.
TBF I agree with the idea that a doctor's job is to place individual blame on institutional problems though much of it can be solved at the municipal level. It's true that our mass manufactured food is toxic, but we can grow our own food even with very little space. The issue is that there are too many laws and zoning restrictions preventing homegrown food. You also can't feed starving people without risking a lawsuit.
It’s also self agency whether or not YOU choose to be healthy and maintain a proactive healthy lifestyle. Yes there are tons of chemicals and shit in our food and water, but I swear 99% of health problems in the US could be solved if people just exercised a few times a week outside and didn’t eat until they were over stuffed.
Hello, Psychiatrist here. My job is to make my patients feel NOT depressed ideally. I'm not blind, times are rough. History is full of rough times, we had wars, multiple global economic collapses and times with uncertain futures in general. It's perfectly normal for perceptive individuals to feel down in times like these, there are no happy pills and we are not "happiness doctors". when there are rough times more often than not people who held on to the lights in their lives and persevered make it through to better times. However our brains lose hope and don't always allow us to do what we must and what we can, we are here to help with that. I hope you get the help you deserve and please don't blame yourself for feeling upset at how everything is!
I'd take it a step further and say that doctors are primarily there to sell pills and procedures, regardless of whether you need them. They rarely even bring up things like diet and exercise
YOU'RE MENTALLY ILL IF YOU AREN'T RENDERED MENTALLY ILL BY THE STATE OF THE WORLD !!1!1 /s
So the sane ones must be ill, and the ill ones are clearly sane.
This reminds me of a book written by Joseph Heller, I think it was called 22 Catch Street.
Are you sure it’s not 21 Jump St.? Oh Johnny 😭😭I would never poop in your bed!!
Sooo close. Catch-22. Maybe you can read it to me while I paddle the life raft to sweden.
There is always a way.
If you contribute to this doomed society you’re as crazy as the crazy people!!!
That’s always their angle, “if you’re paying attention” or “if you were smart enough to see it”. They position themselves above you before you can even rebut them and think that’s how it somehow makes them correct.
You stop making sense right now
If you could actually read you’d know I’m making sense /s
Haha reeeeeeee

Right? Lmao I must be dumb af cause I’m killing it on a high school diploma I barely received 🥵
It's a bad faith way to present things.
"If you were 'enlightened' like me, you would obviously agree with me. The fact that you don't agree with me simply proves that you aren't 'enlightened' like me."
That's literally the first thing they teach you when debating someone. Analyse the framework of the person you're debating.
What a crab mindset. You shouldn’t have tvs and cars until every tribesman in Mumbambu has his 2000 calories.

I love to point out the irony in their beliefs when they are whining these fancy gadgets. They seem to short circuit when that is brought up

Woah, this is terminal!
"Mental health is a scam to keep the working class from raising up"
Turns out class conciousness was just good ol mental illness
The keywords to mental illness are so much easier to spot now that they've been mainstreamed by those most ill.
"I'M A WAGE SLAVE! YOU OWE ME BECAUSE I LACK THE DRIVE OR ABILITY TO DO MORE THAN POUR COFFEE!"
Alright, who didn’t give this man his Dino nuggets.
You see, before the internet, this individual was living in a run down house on the outskirts of town. We never saw them because they never went out and they didn't have any friends, because they are crazy and everyone avoided them. Now they can congregate and proliferate their views.
That loon should sell their iPhone and use the money to feed the poors.
My gosh lmao. These people man
I’m guessing this medical professional has a prescription pad ready to go.
Buspar and xyprexa coming right up
I REFUSE TO FEEL ANY HAPPINESS.
MY DEEP AND PERFORMATIVE MISERY PROVES THAT I AM RIGHT AND YOU ARE WRONG.
( ... hey, you guys are noticing me, right? please validate me ... )
Which one of you posted that?
I refuse to believe "if you're not depressed, that's an indication of sickness," was written unironically.
I’ve seen it enough times that I’m unfortunately inclined to believe it’s legit
They are mad because luxuries are exactly that?? Luxury?? You don’t NEED it. So why would you be mad that you don’t HAVE it? Crazy.
I did not consent to these people forcing their fetish on me
Laughs at “medical professionals” while criticizing the ability to find reliable healthcare
There seems to be a growing population of people who take pride in being depressed. I'd much rather find humor in tragedy.
Finding humor in everything is why most people say I'm an asshole, then get madder at me when I laugh at them.
This is gold
Their position is unironically every human being has to be depressed and neurotic since the dawn of time because starvation exists. And then they insist they’re mentally sane
Because poor people exist, luxuries shouldn't?

Elaborate on what the "Peter Singer argument" is please. Honest request, never heard it before.
Basically any dollar that you spend on yourself that could instead be used to feed a starving person, provide life-saving medication, etc is akin to murder. You’re a bad person for not being born in Cambodia.
ChatGPT could probably provide a more accurate explanation.
And yet if you gave this person a luxury car I doubt they would sell it to feed the poor.
crabs in a bucket final boss
That guy should write 2084 cause he got some Orwell to him

Well...fuck.
They would have hated living…well…any time and anywhere in history.
Are these people 14 years old? What childish mentality is this?
It is no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society. — Jiddu Krishnamurti
The state of the world isn't great. But TBF, it never was - it's much better than the last 100 years though.
I don't have to die in a trench. The economy isn't so bad.
I'd like it if it could be better. I choose not to be depressed.
Most positive Redditor be like:
Do they understand to hundred of millions if not billions of people in the world, all the processed food, unaffordable housing and healthcare they so despise are all luxury?
This Same guy probably rants about RFKs efforts to handle the first one

It is pretty bleak if you give a shit i suppose
The key is to not give a shit
I need drugs for that 😫
I'd take it a step further and say that doctors are primarily there to sell pills and procedures, regardless of whether you need them. They rarely even bring up things like diet and exercise
Most doctors are doing the best for their patients
No they're really, really not
