The thing about dooming is it's not just a political thing (although that is where it exists the loudest). But I have seen it in many communities I am in. I know Christians who every year think the end is coming. Sports fans of the teams I follow think every game will be a loss. And here you see gaming fans. It really is a mindset that many have.
It's mostly the fans that I geniuenly wonder why you are watching. The ones that say their mental health is lower by watching. Idk if thats technically dooming though. But I equate it to the same people that play the same game for hundreds of hours but say they hate it lol.
Fans of underdog sports teams are usually stoics, not doomers.
Stoicism = "I don't think we'll win, because we have a much smaller salary budget than the opposition, but if we do I'll be ecstatically happy."
Dooming = "I don't think we'll win, even though we have a much larger salary budget than the opposition, because the manager is a clown. And if we do, I'll be miserable because my prediction was wrong, and the manager won't be fired, and I'll say it was a crap performance and the underserved win merely papers over the cracks."
Its stupid to think "the end is coming soon". We have technically been in the biblical end times for about 2,000 years and we are told we will not see the second coming, well, coming.
NGL. Im guilty of the sports one, the way I look at it is it's Easier to go into the game prepared for a loss than thinking it won't happen and be even more disappointed.
Oh man, Sports dooming is hilarious. Funny world where being positive is met with downvotes… in the sub for the team.
I love the Blue Jays, the bandwagoners that hopped on for the World Series this year immediately dipped after just barely losing Game 7. It was a rough loss, but y’all, no one thought we were going to make it that far, we had already doomed in the prior round (ALCS).
But that’s the drama that makes sports fun to watch. Game 5 ALCS, “oh man, good run, shame we’re garbage…” three days later “OMG we’re in the World Series!”
The price hike and scarcity doesn't worry me, ill just wait it out like I did GPU's during covid NBD. What I'm concerned about is the investment in AI thats happening here, either way were all on this rollercoaster so lets throw our hands up and enjoy the ride lol.
Oh yeah we are 100% getting hit with a major market correction soon and the fallout of the AI bubble is going to be similar to the .com bubble but thats business as usual.
That wasn't even the worst GPU crisis. Back in the early 2010s bitcoin mining with GPUs, especially Radeons, became a major thing. GPUs became scarce and the second-hand market became chaos. You could sell used GPUs for 2-3x their price. But when the market cooled down due to ASICs and nVidia implementing fixes to not allow mining on consumer cards the second-hand market got insanely flooded with used GPUs and the prices crashed.
Doomers gonna doom though. And the amount of content creators just milking this is absolutely annoying.
Shortages of Ram, CPU’s, GPU’s, glass, plastics Ect are the norm. There is also was shortages of something in the tech space. Calm down, someone will pick up the slack.
Trump needs to stop blowing up those fishing boats full of RAM cards. They’re just innocent fishermen trying to make a living and sell RAM on the side.
I saw that post earlier too and there were a few negative comments calling OP names and dooming on that post, that sub has become unbearable and outright annoying with the doom-posting the past couple of weeks.
I dunno if the gpu shortage was worse. You didn't see card prices quadrupling overnight from legit retailers. The biggest issue was brand new cards, like the 3000 series, being both very expensive and hard to find. Dddr5 on the other hand isn't new, yet the price spike far surpasses anything we saw with gpus that launched during the shortage. So far the only saving grace is you can still find it, provided you're willing to pay.
That said, his ultimate point is correct. Markets will stabilize one way or the other. Whether that be the AI bubble bursting or supply will increase to meet demand. Sucks in the interim, but that's life.
Do you buy newspapers for a penny from a boy who sells it on street corners, if so be a good chap and forewarn him that his career will one day be rendered obselete by the mobile phone.
They did the same thing with the 50 series GPU release saying that prices were never going to come back to MSRP and anyone who didn’t buy an overpriced scalped GPU would never get one….meanwhile I bought a PNY 5080 for my wife on Black Friday for $970 at microcenter….
Honestly? I see it as a chance for someone ELSE to pop up and fill the market space left behind. Will it hurt at first? Sure. BUT... One third of the market just dumped the consumer market leaving a big fat hole with cash waiting to buy in.
The right business savvy people could make a KILLING swooping in.
Anyone with even basic economic knowledge will understand that there'll be negative impacts in the short term for gamers or anyone looking to get a new PC. However there'll be undoubtedly be companies who see an opportunity to get in on the consumer market and fill the demand left by companies chasing the AI bubble so it'll work out in the end
Remember when storage drives were about $10 to $100 per gig? 20 years ago a 70" LCD screen was $10k.. now they are like $500 and have apps lol. People are crazy.

Yeah but the sports dooming is kind of understandable. I mean if a Browns fan is dooming can anyone say he's wrong?

Lowering your expectations is a must. It makes victories so much sweeter.

As a Cowboys fan, I will continue to doom as long as Jerry owns the team, and you can’t stop me
So many similarities: Sports Fans, Religious Fans, Political Fans, and Concert Fans. All Fanatics.
She might be in a: stadium, Church, political rally....or her college team just lost....

I lucked out and did my upgrade in sept to a 9800x3d on one pc and built a new one for my wife, right before the fuckening.

Kinda ironic considering in which subreddit you post it.
.com didnt end the world though.
Nothing wrong with hypotheticals grounded in reality and relevant to the topic
That's a normie doomer take. Usually things go way different than what the masses think.

Its because these huge tech youtubers like Gamers Nexus literally say "we are losing local and personal computing.
This is entirely too rational and grounded.
Unfortunately, for every ten doomers there is only one critical thinker, simply the way things are.
Shortages of Ram, CPU’s, GPU’s, glass, plastics Ect are the norm. There is also was shortages of something in the tech space. Calm down, someone will pick up the slack.

I think I read that thread before, iirc the top most comment was basicly saying "We're not dooming, we're making logic based predictions"
I don't buy into the "death" but I do buy into a protracted pricing issue because of the amount of time it'll take for capacity to come online.
It is more of a "sucks to be you" if the roulette lands on you needing a new gaming laptop/desktop until the issues can get sorted.

AI is kinda useless and its driving up prices for jo reason. Ill be "suprised" when I read the newspaper in 5 years to find OpenAI has crashed
Not sure I’m going to tech insights from the guy that’s still reading a newspaper
I don’t think it’s useless. Most industries that use AI wages go higher. Edit: for anyone who wants a citation https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/18/business/ai-jobs-economy

I will never forget when the amd radeon vii cost more than the flagship nvidia *90ti that had come out at least a year after the radeon vii.
No- we must DOOOOOOOM!
Me...consistently spending 3K for a gaming PC every 5 years....for the last 20 years....
