I found this chair at a dollar store and at first I had to sand it to get rid of the rough edges. Next I continued sanding until everything rounded up as far as I could go.
After finishing sanding it down, I started carving and drilling the holes. This took quite a while because I did it the wrong way first, using way too fine sanding paper and tips for my rotary tool, but after changing it, it was finished quite quickly. The holes around the seat came last, after carving out the groove.
Coloring it was quite a horror show on its own.
Since the wood is cheap and the chair is made of many different types of woods, the color didn't stick well and it looked awful in the beginning. Like, really really awful.
But after a few layers (every layer had to dry at least 12h and you have to sand it afterwards for the used vintage look) it came out better.
For making the cushion, I don't have any pictures of it, but I cutout some thin cardboard and foam for the base and cheap decor fabric from throwing pillows for the upholstery.
Pulling the fabric over the foam tightly and securing it with instant glue did the trick for me.
After everything was done, I glued it (with pressure) to the chair and hid the fabric wobbles with the silver cord.
After the black paint layers were finished I toned everything with a hint of magenta to compliment the cooler black tones of the wood color.
And while the first layer of topcoat dries, I used the stickiness of it to set in the metal beads (nail Art beads) so that they can be glued to place with the next layer of clearcoat

Love it!
How'd you customize it? Can you give us a rundown of what you did?
Sure!

Just a sample picture to visualize the idea

Everything is very nice! Hope I'm able to find that chair at my local dollar store! Thanks for taking time to answer. It looks really good!
Just in case I switched it up, I thought "dollar store" is a word describing those cheap stores for decoration, tools, socks etc. Store name was Tedi
