Mick Garris asked Miike if he wanted to do an episode, gave him the budget and deadline and told him to go crazy.
Miike sent this episode, and Garris was like "holy fuck!".
Garris had the episode edited down on disturbing content in hopes Showtime would air it. Showtime canceled the episode airing even after cuts were made.
It was released on DVD only after that, but did actually air on Chiller at one time after massive cuts were made to it.
I love these anthologies, I remember getting them on dvd from Netflix when that was still a thing š«£ the end scene from Cigarette Burns has stuck in my brain for almost 20 years š®āšØ

Oh yeah that's a nasty one for sure.
I often think though, how exactly did this ever get made? Surely everyone involved knew it wouldn't be able to make broadcast.
Either that or they didn't oversee Miike at all

The version released on dvd was uncensored hopefully?
So is the final version that was released with the Season 1 set the original or the edited version?
I had wondered if they had 0 supervision on the fella, certainly makes sense considering what he delivered to them
I'm astonished it ever made the air anywhere, even trimmed
Oof, yeah this is a great one. Some of the other MOH episodes are kinda cheesy - but not this one. Great horror
Some are, but there's a few legitimately amazing episodes in there too.
Cigarette Burns is peak.
FSOR, the only episode of MASTERS OF HORROR that Showtime never aired. They felt the content was too disturbing.
AN EPISODE OF A SERIES CALLED MASTERS OF HORROR WAS CONSIDERED TOO DISTURBING TO AIR ON A PREMIUM MOVIE CHANNEL.
What is FSOR? I looked it up but couldnāt figure out what you mean here
I don't know either.
This is why I hate it when people talk in random acronyms that nobody else knows.
All I can come up with is "For Some O? Reason."
Iād guess āfor some odd reasonā

My favourite episode! Itās so fucked up, it took me two goes to get through it the first time I saw it. But it is true horror and so well done.
I bought for my collection, watched it once and that was enough.
Even the end credits were rough, if darkly funny.
I miss this series. Both seasons were a fun watch, despite some stinkers, as to be expected. I'd love to see a Season 3 sometime.
It came in the form of Fear Itself
First time I have seen this one was in a movie theater, I think they were doing a 2-movies night but I forgot what the other one could have been.
For some reason sound in the theater was cranked up to the max to the point of becoming almost physically unbearable.
It was really an unforgettable experience.
The range of movies that Miike can pull is really astonishing
made me flinch
Christopherrrrrr
Excellent episode.
One of the better ones, I also really like John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns and Dario Argento's Jenifer
Loved it! Very twisted!
I canāt even find this on IMDb, what year is it, and is there an alternate title?
It was the first result when I did a Google search for "masters of horror imprint."
Okay, masters of horror. The closest I got was āImprinting: the making of āImprintāā 2006.
I don't know how you would have assumed anything else.
It says it directly in the title.
te amo Takashi Miike, mi alma siempre conectada con la tuya <3 <3 <3
I recall being shaken by "Jenifer" back in the day
