As a person under 4'11, I guarantee you that the world is in no way made for short people. I actually have a foldable 1-step ladder that I keep in the car so I can reach things when shopping etc.
Oh I don't believe the world is made for tall people either, I have a cousin who is a little bit taller than you and I see how hard it is on him. I believe the world is made for those who are 5'5"-6'.
Yeah, that's probably around ideal. Add a few inches and leg room gets cramped really fast. Go up to 6'5 and you start being more aware of ceiling heights
Solidarity here! As a mechanic and cook, counter tops are asking for back pain.
Beds.
Aircraft.
The back seat of any vehicle and some passenger side fronts.
I look like Jim Carrey's Grinch on the little car. On any small equipment or motorcycle.
The amount of times I have hit my head...
I could go on.
I knew a family who had twin boys who were built like Michael Phelps and swam too. At least 7". They had a Chevy Tahoe and a Dodge Grand Caravan so they could put the middle seats in the floor. The twins had all the leg room that way.
Having people stare at me like a freak when I'm scrunched into seats made for people a foot shorter and definitely slimmer than me... Fuck I hate flying so much.
See, a ladder was made for you to be able to reach and see things. What was made for a tall person to not hit their body parts in dorways and in vehicles?
Yeah I know but statistically way less and with less impact. This can be different story for individual cases - but on a large numbers you can see how the movement and postures we all experience have more negative long term effect if you have longer limbs and are heavier. It’s the mechanical (dis)advantage of long levers.
Yeah but that applies to everyone tall and short alike and has nothing to do with the design of the environment we are supposed to exist and operate in.
I'm mostly just being contrary for shits and giggles. I'm sure the world is just as inconvenient for very tall people as it is for shorties in different ways. We all can only bemoan what sucks for us personally, I'm not actually trying to turn it into a victim competition. 😉
Being short makes it so you can't easily reach things and it's harder to do a lot of things. Being tall just makes everything uncomfortable. It's also harder on joints and your body in general long term
As a tall person, I love it.
The freezer on the bottom is such a game changer. It's great being able to see more than a sliver of the bottom shelf and the crisper drawers.
Also, things don't build up as much momentum before landing on your foot.
I know, right?
So much is made for shorter people that this is kinda nice
As a person under 4'11, I guarantee you that the world is in no way made for short people. I actually have a foldable 1-step ladder that I keep in the car so I can reach things when shopping etc.
As a person that is 6'3, I guarantee you that the world is in no way made for tall people. Yes I can reach things but EVERYTHING is uncomfortable.
Oh I don't believe the world is made for tall people either, I have a cousin who is a little bit taller than you and I see how hard it is on him. I believe the world is made for those who are 5'5"-6'.
As a roughly 5'5" person, I can tell you it's not even made for us.
5’10”, I never thought about it but I might be near perfect height for most normal sized appliances, furniture, etc. to just feel comfortable
Yeah, that's probably around ideal. Add a few inches and leg room gets cramped really fast. Go up to 6'5 and you start being more aware of ceiling heights
Sure it isn't. 🙄
As a person that is 5'10" it is easy to fall into solipsism and comfort.

Mmmmkay for short people we can't reach things and everything is uncomfortable. It sounds a lot like the world is made for tall people to me, still...
See, a ladder was made for you to be able to reach and see things. What was made for a tall person to not hit their body parts in dorways and in vehicles?
Vertebrae.
You mean the things that squeeze my disc and cause me unbearable backpain?
Happens for short people too 🫠

Oh, so you as a tall person are now incapable of using ladders to reach objects taller than you? I didn't know that!
That tool wasn’t made for me. I can touch the ceiling in my flat when standing. Good for changing light bulbs.
Yeah that would be tough indoors. I suspect if you really needed to reach something taller than yourself outdoors though you'd manage with the ladder.
Yeah but that applies to everyone tall and short alike and has nothing to do with the design of the environment we are supposed to exist and operate in.
BTW short people also life longer.

Me neither. I engaged in this discussion for fun as well. Just testing how long my theory can hold up.
You’re, like, extra short though
The world is made for "standard" height people, so both the taller ones like me and the smaller ones get shafted.
A tall fridge is already hell for smaller ones.
Nothing is made for short people. You spend your whole life feeling like a child, unable to reach where society puts things.
And I hit my head on everything. I spend my life like I'm in a world made for children, constantly hunched over.
Right? Fuck airplanes.
Even the escape rows are awful.

My kitchen is all tall cupboards. My gf hates it and can't reach anything.
Looks lovely indeed
I had same setup in my previous house, but below fridge there was a big drawer, so space here was usable. We kept potatoes and onions here lmao
I loved it
So you can’t kick the ice cubes under it
This is the last straw. I’m going on strike.
We already have r/TVTooHigh, do we need to create r/RefrigeratorTooHigh now?
and /r/MicrowaveTooHigh
Damn, came here to say this
And an r/CupboardsTooHigh
I guess that's one way to keep the cat from getting his toys stuck under the fridge.
Shows what you know about cats. If there’s a space there, the toys will be there.
There’s a solid ½” on the left that will suffice
Should be safe from flooding
Obviously they only want to rent to basketball players. Let the fridge work it out rather than risk a discrimination lawsuit. Smart.
My new job would be getting things out of the freezer for my wife.
And me
I bet behind this are stairs going down
And a body dump
I’ve got a feeling they put a fridge in, where an old heater was removed. It just fit perfectly, I guess.
while i have never seen the top of a fridge before, the world for sure is set up for ppl 5’6”-5’10” 😭the rest of us are in height limbo lol
This might be for older people who cannot get down to get things from the lower shelves.
but now they need a step stool to reach the freezer
nah, pretty short fridge.
No that's a normal sized fridge.
It's scared of the floor
Its so that when it comes time to replace it, you'll have a difficult time finding one to fit in that space!
They toddler proofed it.
Save space ?
r/malelivingspace
I would love to not have to bend down to look in my fridge tbh
is that a bathroom?! next to the fridge??
Yes unfortunately
I’m guessing there’s some ductwork or other mechanicals under there.
Would definitely be my guess.
Why in the fuck knuckles is it off the ground?!
So I don't have to look like a nightmare creature with my tall ass pulling stuff out of the crisper drawer at 2 am.
Keeps the rabbits from the salad drawer. (Idfk)
How did they get it up there?
I would have to guess they lifted it up 🤦♂️
Just freakin deadlifted a fridge??
They have fridges in second floor apartments. Even in third floor apartments!
Yea, it's called a hand truck ofc. But how the hell would that help lift it up and slide it into that little cubby?
You pick it up and lift it. Maybe I've just moved more appliances than most? They're not that heavy.
Empty fridge that size wouldn't be extremely heavy. Also maybe a ramp
Either lifted it up or used teleportation
Aliens.
This is the first response to my question I believe
As a tall person, it’s perfect
Guess I gotta get moon boots to get my frozen meats and ice cubes.
Looks to be a smaller fridge like a small apartment Size so not very heavy
Love it. Easier to reach bottom drawers.
The fridge in my RV is raised like that. It’s kind of handy.
Ok as a short person I love and hate this at the same time...
Fridge? Maybe not.
Washing machine? YES.
I wonder if that is where the heating/air conditioner, or the water heater, used to be located.
It looks like the area where the water heater is located in my parents’ house, and where the central heating/air unit is located in my house.
I love this
Is it right outside of a bathroom?
Is the toilet behind the fridge? I betcha that there’s plumbing from the bathroom under the fridge.
So drug/insulin fridge? It’s right outside the bathroom…
what a cap lmao
It's Harry Potters cousins room
You're so hiiiiiigh-igh-igh, high above me, you're so lovely, you're so high hiiiiiigh-igh-igh, like Cleopatra, Joan of Arc or Aphrodite
Bahahaha!!!
I wonder how they installed that. Fridges aren't known for being easy to lift.
Someone talk must’ve lived there before.
Looks like maybe it had centrally see it one time? And that's where the AC thing would be
