• That’s failed Mythbuster Allen Pan for anyone wondering.

He actually makes a lot of cool science stuff on YouTube that is dangerous or impractical.

    And sometimes both!

And Styropyro (Drake Anthony)! He makes way cooler and dangerous, but equally impractical stuff. Love those guys.

Love Styropyro and can't recommend his channel enough. If you haven't seen it yet, go look it up on YT. You're in for a treat!

    Why failed

There was a Mythbusters reality show at one point where the winner was supposed to become a member of the Mythbuster team. Allen didn’t win so a lot of his YouTuber friends (or maybe I’ve just heard William Osman a million times) refer to him as “failed Mythbuster Allen Pan”.

Allen himself says it a lot as joke and even jokes about it with Kyle Hill (science Thor) who kicked allen from the show. They are friends

Oh yeah, Allen is in on it for sure.

After Adam and Jamie were done with the show, Discovery tried a "Mythbusters Search" competition to find new hosts, and then really really tried to make the winners hosts of a viable show.

Neither the competition nor the continuation of the show that followed were particularly popular. I remember one of the new hosts tried really hard to be "the new Adam" instead of being himself.

    And snake legs.

I wouldn't call him. Failed myhtbuster. He was famous before he ever auditioned, and he just didn't get the role.

Imaging if you were defined after a job interview someone beat you out on. Lol

Side note. I hung out with him and Kyle Hill at a comicon one year before I knew they were famous. They were chill and friendly. We met upstairs while they were prepping some tech for a panel

I didn’t call him that. He and all his friends call him that in a ton of YouTube videos as an inside joke.

I see. Well using an inside joke to explain who he is to people is a bit unfair. Even though I know who he is, I don't watch his videos mostly, so to me it just sounds like you're being a jerk for no reason. Lol

  • Cuz thats awsome thats why

    New meaning to razor burn.

  • The funny thing is, the lazer doesn't need to touch the skin; it just needs to hover briefly to burn the hair.

Still wouldn't recommend this to be used as a substitute for shaving haha

One angle error and no more see see.

Well that's why he's wearing the goggles. In this case, the worst he'll do is burn himself.

It's super cool looking, but yeah nobody wants that

  • I remember a Philips advert for RobotSkin where the robot shaves for you, but I never thought I'd see a laser shaver outside of sci-fi movies, pretty cool!

  • Is that the SKAARP laser razor?

  • This is lit. Hell, it's got Styropyro himself involved.

  • This looks like a recipe for disaster. Nothing says smooth like a side of potential burns and regret.

  • You know this could actually work. They already use laser flash to eliminate body hair. The trick is to make the laser pulse rather than send out a steady stream of energy. You only want enough energy to singe away the hair without over exposing and damaging the skin. With quick precisely timed pulses at a finely tuned energy level this becomes a totally possible concept. You might need to also apply some kind of UV blocking salve as a protective layer to your skin before using it.

The problem is it would be insanely expensive and not at all cost effective for something as simple as a razor

I tried a razor epilator once (a good brand). It does burn your hair, but it is painful even on the legs, even with a very white skin. And I understand the darker the skin, the more it hurts.

I would not try it on the face.

  • We all know why… because lasers

  • I don’t get why a lot of people give these YouTubers that make incredibly dangerous stuff or just does stuff in a reckless way a lot of attention

  • This is was him reacting to a Kickstarter scam for lazer razors that never became a real thing. He created this to see if laser razor can exist at all. And, as you can see, he made one, though it wasn't very effective, as laser can only cut one or few hairs at the time. It doesn't shave a "row" of hair, only whatever it hits first.

  • long inhale through the nose

Ahhh. I love the smell of burnt hair in the morning!

  • I’m such a nerd.

I know both of those guys’ work.

  • Quickest way to skin cancer. I rate it 5/7

    Would it cause skin cancer?

No. First it's not UV or higher. Second the laser is not contacting the skin.

You hope the laser is not contacting the skin.

I watched his whole video it never does.

Also a third factor. That laser does not penetrate. It struggles to cut hair because it only hits the first thing it's touching. It doesn't burn it away quickly enough to cut through more than one at a time.

Yes, this is a perfect score if I ever seen one.

  • I love inventions like these. If another species were dominant on this planet, they’d develop mathematics and agriculture for sure, but they’d never invent something like this. It’s magical.

  • That's a nice and easy way to go blind. One wrong reflection and permanent eye damage.

  • Mother daughter laser razor

  • Lightsabers are next

    They already exist

  • Gillette will give you the laser for free but you gotta buy proprietary batteries for it

  • Razor or the future?

    Spyro: no.....

  • styropyro is such a beast lol

  • Are we going to see Drake Anthony's little thang?

  • Idubbbz make a video on skarp already
