I personally really enjoyed DMC: Devil May Cry. The story was interesting and though the characters were flawed in their execution, the combat and soundtrack were stellar and to this day the controls are the smoothest and most comfortable to play. Even over DMC5. Which I do love but I'm being honest. I don't see why these two universes can't exist at the same time.

I would love a sequel. Especially since DMC6 is nowhere in sight. What are your thoughts? Would you play a DMC sequel?

  • Hell yeah...its super fun.

  • It’s my least favorite game in the series… but yeah, I’d play it. I’d prefer DMC6 or DMC0 but I’d play any DMC game they gave me.

    You like 2 more? Sighhh

Sorry the soundtrack and Dante’s design rocks too hard for me to discard it from existence.

Real. Best drip for Dante in the series.

2 is objectively a worse game. Hell, 2 is objectively a bad game. But yeah, I like 2 more. DmC’s gameplay is vastly superior, but I just never vibed with the art direction, the story, Dante’s personality, etc.

Yeah I just can’t understand the line of thinking. 2 isn’t even a terrible game that understands DMC as it barely feels like a DMC game outside of the the devils never cry thing at the end.

The art direction in DmC awesome I’m shocked you don’t like it. The ost was also a banger on top of its gameplay.

DMC 2 also has great art direction and a much better ost than DmC.

These 2 does but there is also a lot of boring looking sections. The ost isn’t better than DmC but it is great.

Nah the ost is better. Not a fan of Combichrist. At all.

Well that’s an L on you. But that’s fine

  • Ngl I genuinely miss reboot Dante and wanted a DmC 2

  • Not if they bring back “hit blue with blue and red with red” kind of combat

If Ninja Theory and Capcom did a hypothetical sequel probably not, this was already fixed in the definitive edition - you don't get staggered but enemies get reduced stun values

    Not bad mechanic

  • If Capcom develops a DMC6 in-house, while letting Ninja Theory do their DmC 2 , thus effectively making a line up of [main timeline -> reboot timeline -> main timeline] , then I wouldn't mind for a DmC2 to be made and I would play it.

Because with such context, there is no risk of such DmC2 to mess with the proper DMC games in terms of story or production.

    Best of both worlds tbh

    indeed it would be.

Mind you, I am not a big fan of the reboot. But if they were doing like that, there would had nothing to really criticize for, as the main series would continue regardless of DmC , and if Ninja Theory continues to make the DmC then it would had little impact on actual staff members on Capcom's side.

If they just made it clear it wouldnt be a reboot then it could do a little better ngl

  • It would be the last dmc you ever get...

    Zero basis for that.

It will not sell the numbers Capcom expects.

Neither did DmC. They readjusted their initial projections twice. It still felt short. And yet we still got DMC5.

Should be mentioned that We got DMC5 because of the “Capcom test” around the rereleases of DmC: Definitive Edition and DMC4 Special Edition and DMC4:SE actually selling more at the time.

There was no test. DMC5 had already been greenlit by that time. Capcom had zero intention of doing DmC2 at that point. They had already begun moving away from outsourcing. Ninja Theory had already begun work on Hellblade with Tameem directing.

But that's beside the point. We got more DMC despite DmC failing. We could get so again. There's no counterargument here.

We got DMC V because we were lucky and Itsuno was willing.

Dino Crisis fans haven't had a new Dino Crisis since that shit show Dino Crisis 3... that wanted to be radically weird with Dinosaurs in Space.

Capcom shelved Dino Crisis after that..

Dino Crisis 2 sold half of what DC1 did. Then DC3 came out and did a quarter of what DC2 did. The series had been seeing declining sales, and DC3 was a next gen game where costs where higher.

However, Onimusha went through the same scenario. DoD sold 1.1M less than 3. Yet we're still getting a new Onimusha 20 years later.

Dead Rising 4 was a colossal failure so bad it killed Capcom Vancouver. Yet we still got a remake 8 years later.

Anyway, this is all beside the point. We "got lucky" once before, and could do so again. So I repeat, there's no basis for the notion that a DmC2 would kill the series dead forever.

That's why we got DMC5 cause this shitshow of a reboot flopped and a special edition of an 11 yr old game (DMC4) still outsold it.

4SE outselling DmC only happened this year.

At any rate, that doesn't really matter, since my point that we got a new DMC despite DmC still stands.

    I’m happy with that

  • I wouldn’t mind it

  • yeah, this one was so dang fun

  • Depends if they improved both their version of Dante and Vergil’s characterization. If the gameplay is a solid improvement over the last and the story is less bleh, I’ll give it an honest and earnest shot. Otherwise, I’d wait for a discount before I get it.

  • Hell to the no

  • probably not, at least for a while

  • Yeah I played it as a young teen and thoroughly enjoyed it. Its not a great DMC game, but it is a pretty enjoyable experience as a standalone title.

Even as a standalone game I find it lacking.

  • I didn't like the gameplay. DmC Dante felt like a mix of OG Dante and Nero. I disliked the plot, but didn't hate it, the gameplay just wasn't for me

  • I'd play anything dmc related at this point (except peak of scams)

  • Not unless they make MASSIVE improvements all around.

  • DMc 6 is in sight, they are working on it rn

  • ABSOLUTELY! Especially with the shifting world, the visual contrast between the regular world and Limbo, the creative bosses, the more dynamic movement... I loved that game.

  • Fuck yeah! The sequel concept sounded really cool!

  • Absolutely…

  • 100% yeah, I love DmC

  • Tbh yeah I would be down I always felt this game got much more hate than it deserved. Theres even a discussion where the sequel would’ve had the angels have a more prominent role in the story

  • best gameplay in the series, second worst story in the series, good graphics (ps3, xbox 360 gen), this is really good, it is not a truly dmc game. Totally would play a sequel

  • Yeah I played the og and had fun at certain points and it would be interesting to see what improvements they made

  • Yes. Next question

  • I would 100% love to play a sequel to this game. It's a near 100% certainty that we'll never get an actual sequel, but if Ninja Theory were to make a new game with this gameplay, I'd def play that too. I've been bored, brainstorming a new game with this style of gameplay with a new IP, and imo, a Evil Dead game with this gameplay would be AMAZING. Mix of Cavaliere and Rebellion for the chainsaw, "Forest" mode (using the power of the Necronomicon to harness the Forest from ED1) replacing the Demon mode, (haven't come up with anything for the Angel side yet) and the boomstick returning with new weapons ofc. I hate when great games lay dormant.

  • If the writing was much better and it explored angels, then yes

  • Honestly, yeah, out of curiosity

  • considering mainline DMC has peaked (no pun intended) i think now would be the best time to revisit the reboot universe and give it another shot. it has a lot of cool ideas that never got expanded upon

  • I hated DmC but since I’m starved of Devil May Cry content I’d torture myself with a sequel to that game.

  • Hell to the No.

Dante isn't even human in that series

He's British? Guns aren't even owned by civilians?

He's some kind of weird emo goth punk mix

Virgil is a stud that looks like he's going to a student council meeting or is some generational wealth nepo-baby running a "start-up"

Are they even twins in that series? Idr but no matter how you look at it they aren't.

Devil triggers? Aren't cool full body transformations its just changing their weapons.

Im sorry but the divergence is a total reimaging like the Netflix show and it's Hella uninteresting. Might as well be different characters in a similar universe.

I can tell you didn't play it as most of that is wrong. DT has always been a transformation. Not sure what you're talking about. DMC 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 when using DT you transform into a demon. If you don't like the game that's fine. But let's get the facts right.

I said Dmc:Dmc didn't have a real transformation all his hair did was turn white. You're right i don't like the game and I watched a playthrough so no I didn't play it. I didn't want to waste my energy. I remember the entire plot, its failed jokes, poor executions etc..

Don't know why you were bringing up the mainline games when I said dmc:dmc didn't have their kinds of transformations, you didn't disprove me at all. Seems like you were just confused

  • Hell no. Swore I'd never play that reboot garbage the moment it was announced and have kept my word to this day.

I'l just keep replaying the real 1-5 and be perfectly content. If/when we get a 6, even better.

Honestly you're missing out. DMC5 is great and all but the combat in DMC is smoother and easier to perform long combos and strings.

He's literally not missing out and the combat in 5 is infinitely better than the reboot and is the best in the series. Its DMC refined into perfection.

  • I haven’t even played DmC. But if there would be a sequel announced I feel like I’d have to play the reboot then the sequel

  • I'm a hater of the game, least enjoyed game associated with the series, but I'd give it a chance at least.

I may consider the DMC reboot a bad game, but it wasn't without potential.

Unironically, I think I'd rather see the reboot get a reboot that makes it its own thing and fixes some plot elements, rather than continue off where the original reboot left. Just so it could be its own thing and grow on its own path. It deserves that at least.

  • I played the first one when I was worried it signaled the end of the OG series for good, so sure, I could play this one with a lot less bitterness. There were some good ideas there.

I'd prefer a dev who shows a little more enjoyment for the OG series, though. Too many people seem to think they need to "fix" DMC, as if it's popular by accident instead of that people like it how it is.

  • Sure! The first one was alright. Overhated, and a solid polished game, about a B- overall.

I dug the ending. I was like "Oooooh... Okay... Alright. I get you."

  • Yes. If they fix the mistakes of the first one, which they were already kinda doing in the DLC, it would be a great game

  • Maybe something like a Devil may cry gaiden, where you have a story about vergil?

  • I just bought it yesterday so I'm super down to try it

  • Wow the hatred of that game is almost fetish level, it wasn’t a great game but definitely fun for what it was a cool look into a sort of “What if?” Version of Devil may cry

  • I personally believe they had good stuff to work with. A sequel is not gonna do well. I always say the game is a great hack and slash just a terrible dmc. And ninja theory hates the og Dante too much to justify me wanting a sequel.

For what it’s worth the gameplay is great. A lot more simplified than the og dmc games but still tons of fun. And pro players can definitely come up with some good combos.

And dmc5 borrows a few things from the reboot as inspiration. For example Vergil being able to summon a doppelgänger during his fight. And the hell antenora was inspired by the ravager

  • The charavters were flawed but the overall narrative was better than what people give it credit for,the gameplay was really fun as well. would play a sequel for sure but i would much prefer dmc6 or a prequel of the main series

  • As long as the gameplay is as good as the currently is, yes, but they seriously need to work on the writing and world building.

  • Yes this was my first dmc

  • Yes, was this game fun, yes, did it have goofy cutscenes, yes, it was a different take on an established franchise and I think they did a decent job with it, should the Vergil thing have been done a bit better though absolutely, in the original version it kind of came out of left field lol and it's a shame the PC version never got the definitive edition cause it had some nice Q.O.L added to it and some extra costumes, and it left open quite a few ways of it returning as a sequel, Demons are real, the world knows this now and Dante and Kat has to deal with such problems now out in the open.

  • The only Dmc game with enjoyable level design.

  • well...I'll think about it

  • Totally, I loved every game in the DMC series (except 2, but I tried!) I also really liked the angel and demon weapons only damaging their respective parts, I know it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I enjoyed it. Everyone floating while in devil trigger mode (i think thats what it was called) did make it frustrating, i barely used that mode. Even though it wasn’t the Dante I love, I still loved the gameplay and action.

  • Definitely. The art direction was fun and the gameplay felt epic.

  • As long as they go further into it being its own thing and embrace the Donte identity. I would absolutely play it, and I’d like it if they changed the name to Demon might Cry or something so there’s a big enough difference for those who want to get into OG DMC or DmC. Hopefully in this reality(that I doubt will ever come to pass) it gets a genuinely better story.

For example what if Kat had this world’s version of Nero who I’ll dub Nelo, and Donte raises him. Donte becomes a better person/character,and shows Nelo the right way to use his abilities while making Virgil lean further into his incel behavior. Essentially Donte matures as he becomes a dad raising Nelo with Kat,and Virgil only gets worse as he gives in to his impulses and desires leading the demons to the human world. Donte can also still be a punk against the system in this scenario as he and Kat teach Nelo how to do right for everyone despite society’s views, since the world has now been exposed to the existence of demons. Unlike OG DMC,DmC is far more political in its own messages. Unlike the Netflix adaptation where the political shit was Trojan horsed in,the Reboot’s version actually has far better ground to stand on with its own commentary.

  • Honestly there's no real downside to having a DmC 2 considering it likely wouldn't even be by NT anyway. DmC had an interesting idea of actually having angels in the setting but then just did nothing with them to where you wonder why they are even there.

  • Yes and I believe Capcom and Ninja Theory understand the mistakes that were made and would not repeat them. I actually believe they would turn course hard and give us the exact game would would want from a DmC sequel.

  • Hell yes! I don't care what anyone says DmC's potential could rise so high with a sequel!

  • I'm definitely down for it if they can right

  • Sure, why not? Even a bad DMC game is still a DMC game.

  • hell yes the combat was sick, i didnt mind the story either personally it defintiely wasnt as good as og but still wasnt the complete trash fire people wanna paint it as it was okay if you looked at it as it's own separate game removed from the series and pretend everyone is a generic character and not characters we love the game was honestly solid. Id be so down for a take on the same universe with all the criticizms taken in though i think it could be amazing

  • Obviously I liked it a lot

  • I would too. I really think that the world has so much potential.

  • I mean, yeah I’d play it, don’t know if I’d like it, but I liked the Reboot so it’s not like I’d be against it

  • yes! especially if the correct some story elements, but honestly, the battle mechanics were fun! and different enough that it wasn’t a painful departure from original DMC….

  • I mean was i fan of DMC? Not really. But i’d still give it a shot because i enjoy the series as a whole

  • Yes if they make it clear its a spinoff and not a reboot, focused more on the angels in the second game, had better writing, and slowly developed Dante into actually being likable

  • Of course. I think I want to play it even more than DMC6 or any other potential new DMC game!!!

  • Yes, I'd want to see the story unfold between Vergil and Dante. We also needed to see what was going on with Sparda now that Mundus was eliminated, and how they would have done the demon world and if we'd see Argosax.

    There is a power vacuum.

  • Pre-order

The only pre order I made was GTA V for my 360. So I would be very hyped for that.

  • I would love to play it. Would be really cool to see how they improve on the gameplay. As well as seeing what they would do next with the environments since the designs they had in the first were so cool. Also would love to see combichrist come back and make more bangers for the ost.

I also would be interested to see what would be next for Dante and Vergil in this verse

  • Of course, but I doubt if today's Ninja Theory is still capable of producing such a good cag even with the help of Capcom.

  • Honestly? I probably would

  • yes, it's a fun spin off

  • Yea its better than the Netflix anime

  • I really enjoyed DMC, wouldn’t mind a sequel, but we really need DMC6 now. The majority of the playerbase would be so annoyed if it was a sequel to the reboot, instead of DMC6.

  • Absolutely, one of the reasons I was upset to see NT being bought by the big M.

  • I wouldn't play a sequel to the reboot, and I don't think it's missed at all.

  • I already did. It’s called Vergil’s Downfall

  • Absolutely FUCK YES.

Was actually disappointed that they (Capcom obviously) didn't go forward with the initial pitch where the Angel uncle of the twins stops both of them from fighting again after Vergil's Downfall, teleporting them out of Limbo City to heaven, and leaving Kat behind.

Angels and heaven opens up a top of game design possibilities, which they can carry over from DmC: DE.

Both the universes, this and the main timeline, can coexist imho, just like the 2007 Anime by Madhouse canonical to the main titles, and the new Netflix cartoon, which is (ironically) close in theme/setting (but exists in it's own canon) to DmC.

If Ninja Theory aren't occupied with Hellblade III or their Project Mara, now would be the perfect time to pitch a DmC 2 vertical slice to Capcom and MSFT, as the Xbox publishing arm is multiplatform for a while and going forward.

  • Only if they throw out their story writers and actually make it good because the gameplay was fluid

  • I remember reading an interview that mentioned potential DmC 2 plotline stuff and going "Damn, this is interesting!" So like. I think it has potential! Clean up some of the rougher edges of the original and I think you'd have a pretty solid game

  • Yeah! I really liked the world, combat, and the art direction, and I thought that there was a lot of interesting stuff they could have explored. I think it would’ve been really cool to see a crossover.

  • 100%. The combat was tight, the music was awesome, the level design was really cool, the story was extra. I like the prequel style designs they had, it seems like they intended to build on them. I think it's my favorite game in the franchise even though I waited in line for the DMC2 to drop back in the day.

I would for sure play a sequel, but also I don't moan when I shit, so I'm the minority in this sub.

  • I think it’d play anything that’s DMC right now.

  • Only if Donté is Spanish cuz ngl his Spanish dub is so much better (and funnier)

But yeah jokes aside I like the game, it's fun (more than DMC 4 imo)

  • Yeah, I really loved the game. It was far more accessable than the main DMC franchise. Easy to handle, the combat was super fuild, level design and atmosphere was great.

I agree. Combat was smooth as butter.

  • Definitely. I'm thinking of replaying this.

I'm playing through the original trilogy right now but I plan on playing DMC afterwards on a higher difficulty for fun.

All DMC games are fun, except for one 🤣

  • Yes. Game is overhated by people who not only didn’t play but just didn’t want to give it a chance.

  • This game got way more hate than it deserved. Game had style for real. The art for DmC is beautiful. Of course I prefer the originals as well but this series never had to be a replacement, could have just been a cool additional treat we get to enjoy alongside the mainline but everyone threw a hissy fit. The combat was a good time in this one.

  • They say the gameplay is really good so yes.

  • Unless there was a drastic character personality shift, no.

  • The trailer for the sequel to Control dropped recently and it has some DMC vibes. I plan to play the hell out of it.

  • Honestly? Probably not. Bit too much bad blood there for me.

Also, there is no way for them to make Vergin actually intimidating as a villain for me.

  • As long as it’s not called DmC I will

  • With some gameplay changes, absolutely!

  • Fuck no. The fact that they made a 'definitive edition' that made significant improvements and basically said 'Get stuffed' to PC players by never porting it was just a cherry on the shit sundae.

  • Yes if they promise to fire Adi Shankar and make sure he never touches another IP again.

  • I would play it but REALLY dissapointed they'd do this instead of 6

  • Never played to DmC and with DMC5 we now have an interesting new path for the OG franchise and characters so... No.

  • Amazing gameplay looked like shit though.

  • DMC: dmc? No. I’m good.

  • Y'know what, I wanna see how they'll progress the story of El Donte and Virgin

  • Just rename it to something else then maybe Ill consider it, it needs to stop riding the franchise name

  • I haven't played it but i would accept this for 2 reasons

    1. although dmc 6 is semi confirmed it wont be out for yonks

    2. we can make fun of characterisation

  • Honestly yes but that story would probably kill me with how "so bad it's good" it could be

  • No but I think a game that took heavy inspiration from DmC DE’s gameplay could be genuinely great. The closest currently is probably Assault Spy.

  • Yeah i really enjoyed the first part especially because it had a german dub and i liked the voice actors they choose for it

  • I wouldn't stand the way they portraited Dante and Vergil tbh

  • Honestly my biggest problem with DmC was how much it was drummed up as "replacing (and shitting on) Old DMC" (that and the console 2013 release kinda sucked honestly, Definitive Edition smoothed over a lot imo)

If Capcom had just said something along the lines of "Classic DMC isn't going anywhere the team is just focused on newer projects right now so we gave the IP to Ninja Theory in the meantime" I'd have totally understood.

If they had said that they would've smoothed over a lot imo. But instead it was incredibly vague (people weren't even sure if it was a Reboot or Prequel until near launch) and they made it seem like Classic Dante was going the way of Morrigan and just being stuck as a cameo appearance for the rest of his days.

So in short yes I would. These two series's can co exist, I wouldn't say no to a game that crosses them over with one another.

I got my DMC 5 I wouldn't be opposed if someone else got thier DmC 2

  • As someone who has never finished a playthrough of this game because I lost interest, no. I wouldn’t care for a sequel personally lol.

  • I will play anything (not gaccha or online mmorpg) that is under DMC or DmC banner

  • I would for sure. But not if it came at the expense of a DMC6 or even a remake. No thanks if thats the price and it ends up adding years to our wait lol. But yeah DMC was a good time.

  • A second DMC 2 couldn't hurt, could it?

    Capcom:

You guys wanted more DMC, right? Well, here it is the most anteciped sequel from the franchise: DmC2!

Now wait 20+ years until we decide to give a shit about the mainline games, because the devs are busy with RE and MH. In the meantime, enjoy Peak of Combat: Electric Bangaloo and DMC Netflix season 5

  • Beyond the hate the game got yes I would play the sequel. The gameplay was really solid and the level design was really good and creative. Nothing against the Capcom team but ninja theory made some really fun and interesting levels.

  • Absolutely bruh, I was a 13 yo edgelord when that game came out it was fucking perfect for me. It's cringe in a lot of places but I'd play a sequel.

  • I mean it's just more DMC for me so yeah

  • Yeah, i recently played dmc donte for the first time and honestly is a pretty fun game.

I even liked the characters and story except vergil, him being unlikable seems kinda the point tho.

I would be very hyped if it ever got a sequel.

  • Absolutely...it was not a bad game at all...

    I quite like it.

  • for sure, better than a DMC "6" set in the anime canon. God I hope they ignore the anime's universe whenever we get a new game

  • I am not a fan of the reboot but i did enjoy playing it. So yes i would happily play a sequel

  • Yes, definitely.

  • Id wait for a sale

  • I would if they remove "hit me with only demonic/angelic weapon" enemies. It's kinda cool mechanic sure, but maybe it's just better to make some enemies by design easier to defeat with demonic weapons, which hit hard and slow (like the guys with the shields) instead of making them completely immune to angelic/demonic weapon. And maybe let us play as Vergil. I would still play a new DMC though even without all of this, but this change I believe would make it move lovable imo

They fixed that in the definitive version at least.

Oh really? The red-blue enemies? I guess it's time to try it again...

  • I would. I was actually invested on where that story would go next even before we got DMC5.

  • Yuup. Probably.

  • Unlikely unless I get it without spending extra money i.e. via a gift or included with PlayStation Plus.

  • I would love a second game! I always liked the game a lot once I finally tried it.
The first half of the story isn't that strong, but you can see them finally figuring who Dante is within DmC within the second half of the game.
Than by the end of the game you can really see Dante become his own character finally.

I really wanted to see where the story was headed in a second game, I would even be happy if a developer gave a summery of what the story would've been like.

I know I'm the weird one out, but I actually enjoyed the combat/gameplay more than DmC1,2 and 3.
Overall I think the story would've been better in a second game with some proper writers.
The ending got a good landing and setup for a good second game.

  • If it existed, I would play it. I play every DMC game, regardless.

  • Absolutely. The game was over hated tbh and with the mainline games still alive I imagine a new Donte game would be less hated since people wouldn’t think it was replacing anything.

  • Hell nah. That shit ain’t getting near any of my devices.

  • I would love it but I need me a DMC2 remake that does its justice

  • I always say I would have loved a DMC 2 along with Devil May Cry 5.

  • I really loved this game and would play the SSSmoke out of it.

    Bruh why downvotes
