For anyone that may be interested… they had a careers opportunity listing in their newsletter today.

  • Location: Connolly Station

The thought of coding in an office above Connolly is kinda funny. Not a bad commute!

Also if any of ye get this job please fix their API endpoint, needs to be GTFS.

Theres plenty of train geeks that woild see that as a genuine benefit

I’d see that as a genuine benefit.

    I like trains

Why not write a converter for it?

I actually have tried 😅 but NTA provide route info and shapes of routes in a different format and they index them differently. So it's pretty tricky to get a live train here and associate it with all the metadata about the route from the NTA's API.

I'm working with it for now on a project but it really could be a lot better.

Location may be great for a lot of people. But the salary is atrocious, especially given the requirements on the job spec.

One can only imagine the soul-destroying environment that all this results in.

  • No Ruby on Rails positions, missed opportunity there

  • Whichever one of you gets it can you make priority one fixing the website to stop it letting you book assigned seating and first class for trains with no assigned seating or first class?

Also fix the bug where the QR code doesn't work when you have a special character in your name

  • We did a security audit of them a few years ago, let me be brief when saying: they could do with a lot of help.

  • What does salary J38 mean?

Presumably that's the pay scale given it's the public sector. They probably have them published somewhere. I found one from 2015 which looks like the bottom end of the range was 57k.

It's a salary scale/pathway for the job. Public service jobs have set salary scales.  Would probably be something like:  Engineer -  Engineer 2 - Senior engineer - Senior engineer 2 etc.

There's usually some lateral paths in roles but public service roles are quite defined when it comes to salary and role.  Seems this one might be Irish rail specific and they don't share exact numbers, but I'm sure in the interview process they'd share the starting salary and expected scaling for it.

  • The salary for the J38 grade at Irish Rail is a specific internal pay scale, but the exact figure is not publicly listed in current general information. A 2015 internal document indicates that J38 might refer to an "Ungraded Executive" position, with a range around €57,000 at the lower end at that time

For anyone wondering what they're offering for senior roles.

  • Glaciers move faster than their hiring process. I applied for a job two years ago. Got called for a sit down exam test the one week I went on holidays.

  • "Salary J38" means €72,681-€87,308 (On a 14 year scale).

Some other comments have way lower amounts. I'm not sure what's right.

It's way too low for what they want anyway.
