You guys just dropped a new holochip called "Aurochs," but, surprise, surprise, you can't even preview what it looks like! I'm not about to gamble my hard-earned Silver on a glowy mystery effect without an in-game sneak peek.

This kind of clownery has been the norm ever since I boomeranged back to the game, and it's legitimately rage-inducing. Can't preview ornament sets with shaders to see if that armor actually vibes with your favorite shader? Check. Old exotic ornaments and seasonal armor ornaments? Vanished into the void until you randomly yeet them back into Eververse for a "limited-time" FOMO frenzy? Double check. And now holochips are jumping on the bandwagon?

"Oh, but why don't you just fire up a third-party app or website to preview the stuff you wanna buy?"

Look, I genuinely appreciate the pro-gamer workaround, thanks for the tip, but asking players to tab out, Google some fan-made site, and pray it's accurate and up-to-date isn't the flex you think it is. We shouldn't have to play detective just to avoid buyer's remorse on digital sparkles.

In-game previews aren't some futuristic innovation; they're the bare-minimum industry standard, seamlessly built into virtually every modern game, including tons that launched before Destiny 2 was even a twinkle in Bungie's eye. This isn't 2009, folks. It's 2026. Expecting basic "let me see it before I spend money" functionality isn't entitled, it's literally table stakes. I'm not handing out participation trophies for falling this far behind the curve.

Enough with these anti-consumer fever dreams, Bungie. You're literally turning away easy money. Do better.

  • Preach brother

  • Just load into the tower on a Tuesday after reset, guaranteed people will be wearing whatever latest crap Bungie have put in the store.

This is the answer lol. It's surprising that Bungie wants to make money with their cheesy Eververse store that still uses the age old Bungie idea of not showing or telling you anything.

While we are at it let me throw a shader on cosmetic previews so I can see how the shader won't work with it.

Or. Stop playing this game and stop wasting time, energy, money and attention on slop that bungo keeps fucking up

  • "Game dev is hard" isnt an excuse anymore either. They're running the same system for the last, what, 7 or 8 years now, and they still can't add shader previews to universal ornaments? Like how badly did they impliment those that they can't be treated like any other armor piece in the collections screen? This is literally the reason I've passed on so many cosmetics- I can't preview the fit before I buy.

Then some random player runs by with a similar outfit to mine, with the armor I was wondering about, and it looks amazing. But then its completely gone from Eververse? Its a digital asset, not perishable food, so why take it off the shelves?

Probably the people that built all those systems are gone, so there’s a severe lack of institutional knowledge. That’s why things get worse in game and take forever to fix; no one working on it knows how the systems work.

And your last question’s answer is very obviously FOMO.

I wasn't going to say the quiet part out loud but yeah, I feel like that's more the reason than anyone wants to admit. On both points.

Remember how for EoF there was that added mention "drops come in the form of engrams that you decrypt at the tower(just like D1!)", like it was some beloved nostalgic thing to ruin the momentum of the game and add in more tedium behind something that was working fine previously and doesn't need to be a science project.

This was a conscious choice somebody made and signed off on in one of the many mistakes of EoF.

It’s never an excuse. Ever. Yeah it’s hard but guess what, you know that when ya applied for the job and accepted the role. I can’t fuck up at my job and go “but boss it’s HARD.” Maybe once, but after that there’s gonna be consequences. “It’s hard” has never been an excuse to me.

I would argue that it was way back when D1 first launched and they had no idea how to handle a live service game for the first time. First day on the job, and all. But at this point, for sure.

Though to be honest, this is likely not a "can't" as much as it is is a "won't", because the impact on their sales probably wont justfiy putting anyone on this. Its probably about as important to them as fixing the slowly crumbling world geometry.

The only excuse I accept with older games is the "We are running spaghetti code and shit will break some times", as long as it is not game breaking and they fix it in time. Any other excuse the players will throw out there is fucking disgusting, we should all be holding the game company accountable no matter what.

  • Red bull horns and a red bull tail. Looks terrible. Save your silver.

  • This is the reason I never buy armour ornaments. There is no way to see how they take shaders. Game is over 10 years old and this is still a thing.

I've heard you can do this now. I've not done it myself to confirm, so take this with a grain of salt. If you buy an armor set, but don't open the package, you can then preview the individual armor pieces in the appearance menu. If you don't like it, refund the package.

You still need to actually have the silver to do this, so people will probably need to spend money to do this anyway (unless they just have a bunch of spare silver that they've already bought and never used for some reason).

  • It's a huge pain in the ass to look up shaders on armor ornaments on YouTube. Shaders should have been previewable on armor day one.

  • It is VERY wild to me that these things even exist in Destiny when 95% of the time, you will be in first person and can't see the shite you're using. At the very least, in Warframe, it makes sense because Ephemeras are visible all the time because you are always in third person, and they are cheaper, too. And, they do not work on a damn timer that you have to constantly reapply, and you can colour them exactly how you want, and etc.

It really is baffling to me that people even buy these since you can't personally appreciate the cosmetic.

"Why would I brush my hair? I can't see it anyway!"

Ignoring the fact that taking care of your hair is a must, lest you lose it sooner or develop a myriad of issues with it. Everyone sees their hair multiple times a day, unless somehow you live in a rock and never see a reflective surface ever.

Most people don't get to see their full Destiny character during gameplay because it is built for first person with very little third person aspects. Plus, I also made the other points that it is stupid expensive for something you mostly don't see, something you can't recolour it, and you have to reapply it after an amount of time (how do you fuck this up?).

It is literally a worse version in every way of the Warframe ephermeras, and it is hilarious how bad it is.

one of the major innovations of destiny's menus is that they put your character front and center, so you do see your character rather often for a first-person game. and there are many other systems such as limited inventory capacity that you will want to dismantle often that incentivize you to open your menu.

  • This Bungie you’re talking about, one of if not the laziest game studio in the industry.

I think they are more inept than lazy

  • Still playing No Man's Sky -haven't touched the latest Destiny 2 DLC even though I paid for it...

  • I assume Bungie thinks everyone will just have the 'free trial' version that often appears as the first reward for event tracks (which is a whole other lame issue in itself) to use as a preview and that bare minimum is acceptable. If you miss said event, it's another classic Bungie "Shit outta luck!" situation.

  • I've never used those things, all they do is take up more of my consumables inventory, which is almost full most of the time

  • holochips are the only thing like this in the whole game. everything else has decent visualization in store: shaders, ornaments, ships sparrows, shells, projections.

in league of legends you’ve had to look at youtube videos to see what skins look like for the past 15 years.

  • Making an eververse-exclusive new cosmetic category that CANNOT BE PREVIEWED is the most Bungo move ever.

  • It would definitely enhance the experience if Bungie made it easier to preview cosmetics, especially since players invest so much time and effort into their Guardians.

  • I'm pretty sure it's just a slightly changed heavy metal holofoil lmao. I've got that one and the dawning trail holofoil, they got they're $16 from me with those and I don't plan on buying any others

  • Super Good Advice for the Eververse Ornaments

You can now preview the ornaments with shaders!

Go to the Transmog menu, then the armor slot its in. Navigate all the way to the last page of unlocked ornaments. They now show up as locked ornaments you can preview and let you know they can be unlocked via X amount of Silver. Hit preview for the ornament and then pick a shader.

  • You guys earn silver ?

  • Dude you absolutely should be able to view cosmetics in the cosmetic designer menu on combination.

    >I think maybe solstice gear might look good with taken gear, and the luminous void shader- I've only got about half of it- too bad I can't inspect it and I'm way too specific for this to be found online.

That's not a request for those with these items to screengrab for me, that's an example of situations I've had multiple times that would decide whether or not I actually buy an eververse item.

  • Also the special exotic ghost/sparrow/ship you earn from a lot of effort put into a special event is a tiny icon with no way to preview. My engagement with said event is already compromised as I’m already assuming it’s not worth the time

  • ChatGPT ass text

  • Take my upvote. Absolute clownery from bungo!

  • Yeah, I tend to think people complain too much about the store but this never sat well with me. Nothing like paying for a new armor set only to find it looks like cheeks with every shader in the game.

  • I mean, it shows horns, and surprise, its horns, with a bonus of a tail, maybe just don’t buy it bro, it’s $8.00
