The paved path is obviously more dangerous than the natural path. I wonder why it was designed that way.
Because someone wanted it to be "fancy" without considering that it affects it's utility. Happens all the time.

wow the path really grew since then
Bad design of paved pathway, since it blocks line of sight for bicyclists.
