So I went on this weeks long endeavor trying to get the Dual Type Starters for Pokémon Crystal Legacy and just when I think I got it to work, this pops on my screen whenever I pick a starter.
Delta is good, but it isnt that good. Other emulator supposed to support what delta support. What I think your mistake is you didnt patch the romhack yourself or you patch it to wrong crystal file. There are 2 file of crystal: “Pokemon - Crystal Version (USA)” and “Pokemon - Crystal Version (USA, Europe) (Rev 1)”. You should patch it to ‘Rev 1’
I recommend repatch it
Also, I personally never have any problem with delta. But romhack community recommend emulator with mgba core. So if it is still not working after you repatch it yourself, try ignited, manic, or retroarch
Not sure about delta as I've never used it, however I know in some emulators you can change what device it emulates, like og gameboy, gbc, or even the snes attachment.
Again not sure about delta, but check the settings in the emulator and see if it's running in GBC mode just to be safe.
Edit: I'm on Android using MyBoy, but this is what mine has as options as an example.

Have you tried on another emulator like SameBoy? At least just to see if it’s a delta issue or not.
Just tried on 3 different emulators and none of them even get passed the title screen. Delta at least let the game start up.
Which emulator? And are you using any cheat?
SameBoy, LuckyEmulator, and iGBA. No I’m not using cheats.

Assuming your on mobile , try manic emu too?
What’s the extension of the file is it gbc?

It seems like Delta is loading the rom as a GameBoy (non color) game. Weird. Gbc is for game boy color so weird that it’s happening.

Did you patch a Crystal Legacy ROM or a fresh Pokemon Crystal ROM?
I had a similar issue. Delete the file you have and repatch a crystal and reinstall. That fixed it for me

I honestly don’t remember, it’s been so long. Try searching “Delta Gameboy Color Skins”. I found it that way.
