I always like to go a little retro on my Christmas Break. I know the go games for this (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI/III) but what are some suggestions for the RPG Hidden Gems.
Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon DS.
Final Fantasy Tactic Advance (Tactics/RPG, still very fun)
Advance D&D Pool of Radiance for NES (a very tough classic, definitely a learning curve, dated fun to return to)
My out there pick: Mario Golf GBC. Is a low key RPG where your golfer has stats you can build up. Is an overall good gift game experience once you get the hang of the controls.
Golden Sun on GBA was pretty fun
Came here to say this
They are just so, so good!
[Also OP, you better have knocked out the other biggies like FFVIII, FFIX, Chrono Cross and Legend of Dragoon! ]
I’m in my 40s. I played them in the original glory haha
Good. Now go play Golden Sun!! 💛

Summon Night Swordcraft Story
A gamer of good taste I see
Suikoden 1 and 2! Wild Arms
I remember playing wild arms when it came out and the powers/special skills were so dope while walking around.
Going back a bit more, it reminded me that Beyond the Beyond was the first game I bought for myself on the PS1, haha.
TWEWY (DS)
Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town and Harvest Moon DS.
Final Fantasy Tactic Advance (Tactics/RPG, still very fun)
Advance D&D Pool of Radiance for NES (a very tough classic, definitely a learning curve, dated fun to return to)
My out there pick: Mario Golf GBC. Is a low key RPG where your golfer has stats you can build up. Is an overall good gift game experience once you get the hang of the controls.
Riviera (GBA)
EarthBound (SNES)
Legend of the River King (GBC)
Final Fantasy Legends 2 (GB, and despite the name is actually a SaGa game)
Disgaea DS
How do I get started with FF? do ai just jump into VI because that’s what you said here?
I think VI (US III if you’re emulating the SNES version) is a good entry point. I will admit biased there, it’s my favorite game of all time.
IV and V are also good places to start.
thank youu
Phantasy Star IV : ) 100%
Megaman Battle Network games!
3 Blue is the best IMO but I love them all!
Breath of fire for SNES
Shining Soul 2
Contact on the DS.
Mario Golf Advance Tour. The story mode has RPG elements and is made by the same team that does Golden Sun. Also works quite well on a touch screen.
I had a blast with Paper Mario (n64). I know it's not quite in the same class as other suggestions here. But it was just a damn good time.
Terranigma for snes never made it to USA but is a super interesting RPG very similar to chrono. Weird story!
Tales of phantasia
Don’t sleep on Radiant Historia
Sword of Mana for GBA I consider a hidden gem I don’t see mentioned enough.
The Legend of Heroes series.
Paper Mario, Mario y Luigi, Súper Mario RPG
7th saga was a fun one back in the day.
