Remember when they were begging multi-billion dollar megacorporations to prevent people from using the concept of a cartoon mouse with round ears?

Why are anti AI people so dramatic? They talk like the dialogues of a poorly written fan fiction.

    parent
    63 points Umi_Gaming

Main character syndrome, they think the world revolves around them. Think about it, we see backlash against AI on Twitter and Reddit, but in reality, that's only a minority. The reality is that the graphs show a huge margin of people in favor of AI and use it on a daily basis.

    They're Redditors

There is a reason why the reputation of this website is such ass

The whole “feed it” shit man is so annoying lmao, they act like “ai” is one single model that acts like a Borg or some shit lol just “eating” everything you upload ! (Presumably to just, shit out later to another prompter)

They are. There are already videos on YouTube freaking out about it and calling to ban Disney because "bullying works, it stopped McDonald's from using AI" 🤣

cause disney isnt stupid even they know they cant compete in a future where everyone can make disney level animations with AI then suddenly disney isnt competing against just 5 movies its competing against like 10million a day when the tools get to that point. even if its a week to make stuff they are competing against 10million a week and lets face it the tools will get to the point you can make something in 3 days. they need people making fan content to keep stuff relevant otherwise something like touhou will come along and take everything. people will start forgetting what disney even is cause so much other good stuff will be released. anyone letting others do stuff with the IP will be the future. it will be how you grow. no longer can people just sit on things and do nothing.

We're so indoctrinated that people will do pretty elaborate dances of ideas and twisted logic for years before they realize that they've actually been mad at capitalism at the root of it all, if they ever realize it.

Tbh, Disney read the wall and acknowledged that copyright striking people for using ai is not only too expensive, but a big waste of time.

Basically soon you will only be able to generate mickey mouse with Sora and nothing else, and it'll probably come with a bunch of ToS legalese. I mean, we're talking about the company that is responsible for copyright extending 75 years after author's death (Disney). In 3 months time we'll see people complain that SORA included mickey or donald in the background of their video and no matter how much they redo the prompt they can't get rid of it lol

This is why we need open source AI.

Like you can't just train a Mickey Mouse LoRA and spread it on a torrent site. (I imagine HuggingFsce would nix it if Disney's lawyers sent a C&D letter.)

I think that's a wonderfully subversive use of gen AI. Curate a meta set of LoRA-sized datasets for basically every Disney (including Lucasfilm, Marvel, and less Disneyesque franchises like Tron), Warner, Dreamworks, and DC character, plus other well known franchises like Garfield, Peanuts, Betty Boop, and Felix the Cat, a few terabytes worth of images, and pass it around on torrent sites. Maybe even bundle in a few example LoRAs for models like SDXL, Flux.2, and Z-Image to help people get started.

It's like, meta-piracy. You'd be handing out the means for copyright infringement rather than simply uploading a full copyrighted work. The companies training them can scrub out or censor copyrighted works as much as they please, but they can't stop fine tuning.

    parent
    1 points averyfungi

I'm not sure what the point of all that would be. What are you subverting exactly?

    parent root
    1 points Stunning_Macaron6133

Making copyrighted characters more easily accessible to generative AI, in flagrant defiance of copyright enforcement by big corporations. Take that snarl and tangle it up some more.

    parent root
    1 points averyfungi

Thanks for explaining, I didn't understand the goal was flooding the copyright enforcement.

    parent root
    1 points fkrdt222

if the mouse gets too tight fisted then that will probably take over and it will be like itunes selling songs for $0.99. that aside there are still some questions about actual demand and weird enforcement that are not clear

  • 1 points TheArmoryOne

There's a very, very good chance they hate Disney extending the copyright for all their IPs despite saying AI is stealing

    parent
  • 1 points LEGO_Man2YT

This is the biggest "lol, lmao even" situation that could've happened

    parent
  • 1 points SatisfactionSpecial2

So... basically Disney fleeced OpenAI as part of a deal... I am not sure if it is the win for OpenAI you make it out to be.

(PS. Also it is totally cool for AI models to use material they have rights to use, I am not sure what the problem is)

    parent
    1 points UwU_Spank_Me_Daddy

I'm not rooting for OpenAI, but their plan was for Disney to be their hero and shut down AI to protect their IP so they could go back to making cheap fanfic ripoffs.

Instead, 100% of the 5 copyright cases so far were flatly denied, so now Disney is paying OpenAI $1 billion and letting them use all their source material
