They suck blood until full, then drop off and progress to the next stage of their life cycle, be that going from a larva to pupa, pupa to adult, or adult to reproducing before dying.
They aren't like fleas or lice that hop around and are easily transmitted. You pick up ticks from grass and other plants, where they wait for something to brush by so they can climb on.
Edit: Now, if this was a dead deer, then yeah the ticks fall off and try to find a new host. If they are already hooked up to a living food supply, they have zero reason to drop off until full.
So am I and you're dead wrong. There are frequently unattached ticks on deer. They also don't feed continuously off the same host for their entire life and will detach after several days of feeding when fully engorged.
Ehhh I'm not too worried about it in those temps 🤷 my deer usually still have some sorta bugs inhabiting their nether regions, I've actually never been able to figure out what they are, but not normally ticks during this time of year.
