Aw man, even as someone who eats venison from time to time I don't think I could do it either. Being an extra dose of dumb might've just saved this young idiot, haha.
Yah, it's tough. I don't think carnivores are evil for eating meat and likewise I don't think it's evil for people to eat meat if we treat the animals well, but sometimes you have a soul touching moment like this and you have to square that with yourself. I don't think that's a bad thing. Killing something should never be a forgettably easy decision.
This is why everyone who eats meat should take a life (or at least be present for that part) & dress/prep the meat at least once, makes for a healthy respect for where our food comes from.
Edit: to be clear I eat meat (I’ve killed and eaten chickens, turkeys, and a couple rattle snakes), but I eat a whole lot less of it now than I did when I was young and ignorant
I watched my uncle gut a deer when I was 7, I’ll never forget it. He then used a hacksaw to cut its skull, dumped the brain and kept the rack. I looked into the bucket and saw the brain and said something along the lines of “look how it has all those wrinkles, I heard when you learn something new you get a new wrinkle on your brain” my uncle turned to me and said “well, your is perfectly smooth” I don’t remember much else of the experience haha. Deer jerky is the freakin best!
I’ve never hunted anything or dressed/prepped the meat, and I honestly don’t think that I could. Perhaps it’s because I didn’t grow up in a family where any of us did and so was never around it. Knowing how this would affect me now as an adult in my mid 20’s if I had to do that now, I’m genuinely curious to know how this experience affected you as a child. Was this traumatic for you or difficult to get past seeing that amount of gore?
Man, agreed. On opener this year I had a young seven point buck come right up to me and nudge my boot a bit just before sunrise. He eventually caught my scent, but calmly backed up and walked down the slope in front of me. I figured we were now buddies and therefore couldn't pull the trigger. Hope that dummy survived the season and will make more Wisconsin bucks haha.
Depending on legalities where you are, I find lighting a joint usually brings them in for whatever reason. I will only use a CBD dominant so that I don’t mess with my mental clarity and because of safety
Given that you have to say you've never been "addicted" to weed in order to pass a background check, it's a tempting technique but one I'm going to have to avoid. Hard to deny it if you're caught with a gun AND weed lol
Why waste a tag on a skinny yearling when you can wait for a mature buck or bigger doe. It's more meat to harvest and you know they've had the chance to breed.

This happened to my neighbor when he was young. A buck came right up to him and started licking and sniffing him. He quit hunting after that.

I laughed way too hard at this
In the 70s and 80s , we’d eat the brains. Mixed into scrambled eggs. Wouldn’t wanna do that anymore.
That’s how you discover a new prion disease lol
Not with deer, but there are still plenty of squirrels
Sorry your Uncle shit on your developing curiosity.

That immediately made me think of this

Very well put!
I was thinking the same thing 😭
On the flip side, some poor car will probably get him

That buck doesn’t look legal to shoot either. Iirc they need a certain amount of points in their antlers.
I was scared we were gonna get a gross close up of a deer's face getting obliterated.
You miss every shot you don't take.
The only way to miss this one
Whatever camo or scent control that guy has, I want it
The best hunter I ever knew was my dads cousin.
He always wore the same tan pants and a red and black flannel shirt with a camo vest.
Rarely went home empty handed.
Maybe the camo isn’t super important.

To be fair, wild animals have no concept of what a gun is.
But it was incredibly stupid to walk up to a predator and sniff it
They do.
Here in lies a problem. The ones exposed to it didn't survive to relay the concept to their offspring.
When that does happen, and they are injured or startled by an experience, they remember.
I think a lot of them do in a way. They can associate the sight smells sounds of a gun with danger. This one hasn't lol.
Bears do
Surely, word must have gotten around by now
Your title wordage reminded me of this.

You can get a real good look at a T-bone steak by sticking your head up a bulls ass, but wouldn’t you rather take his word for it
Its just nothing. A black void of thought
Survival of the unfittest
Boop
So stupid it’s cute haha
Who nose?
I really believe that some creatures are only here as food for others.
As a hunter my self i could not do it🤣😭
Omg!! I thought this was a hidden camera so I was confused at first 😭😭
No way this mf went to sniff a 🔫
Kinda cute tho
Why didn’t you blast it?
That's just a little guy. Go after a bigger mature buck & let little man grow up.
And let the dumbest ones breed lol
Had a deer do this to me before and it just doesn’t feel right to shoot it.

Why blow a tag on a little fella when you could get a big fella?
I’m proud of any deer I shoot. If you wouldn’t be proud to tag any deer, you’re hunting for the wrong reasons.
