Like probably all of you, I listen to Bowie so often it's nice to hear an album from a different angle. I love exploring full album covers. Can anyone suggest any good ones?
So far these are my favorite:
Earthling - Ludvico Treatment (kind of a dream pop take)
LOW - The Disappears (it's live)
Blackstar - Maya Beiser (cello, symphonic)
Ziggy Stardust - Easy Star All-Stars (somewhat listenable dub reggae)

Not a full album cover, but it is an album full of covers—The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions featuring Seu Jorge, as featured heavily in the film. They’re almost entirely songs from Hunky Dory and Ziggy. Anyway, really good spin on these songs and definitely worth a listen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Life_Aquatic_Studio_Sessions?wprov=sfti1#
Omg I love that movie, I'm making a cardboard/paper mâché version of the jaguar shark for class

This is what's playing in the background if anyone's wondering, amazing concert
David Bowie Live | 1983 | Sydney | Serious Moonlight Tour
Great concert! He was so full of energy!
I love Seu Jorge! Truly a different take on early Bowie!
Lol, I now see you beat me to it with your comment. You have a great taste!
This.
I love the all-ages tribute album "Let All the Children Boogie." It's on Spotify and Amazon and probably other places. Lots of great covers that have made it onto my playlist for kids.

I've played that for my students! There are a few great tribute albums out there. Modern Love is my favorite; it has the most consistently good covers.
I forgot to mention the Shearwater Berlin Trilogy covers! Those are superb! And this Blackstar tribute by Nariiki and Kenneth Andrew: https://open.spotify.com/album/5i1Ipk7VDZyxxhXKYFzKW7?si=Eef_2EvvQIyLG3xmPRU5Qw
Shit man, I'm a real sucker for covers. Especially when an artist does the song in his or her own genre and thus making it completely different but still recognisable.
I really hope this post gets a lot of reactions because so far I've added a buttload of songs to my playlist. Thanks OP!
Btw, this is about Bowie but that Radiodread by the Easy Star All Stars is also golden!
I feel the same way about liking to hear another take on his work. It's a nice change of pace! And, as a Radiohead fan, I will check out that Radiodred tribute. I know I heard it but maybe it just didn't catch with me. Time to revisit.
I'm hoping to get some good recs from this post
Btw, if you're interested, I put together this tribute playlist covering all the songs from Low, my favorite Bowie album. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6GIcQCfkvCk4niOPAIHNca?si=ZAGsw4U8QaaXY1cu1S-xyA&pi=Wq3uEb82TqOTD
I have the star dub album
I remember easy star all stars did a good cover of OK Computer by Radiohead, including a stellar cover of Let Down. Then again Toots was featured on that song and he was considered one of the greats of that genre, so maybe he’s who made that one a masterpiece.
I definitely want to check out these bowie cover albums tho, thanks for the recs. The Earthling one in particular intrigues me.
The Ludvico Treatment record has a release date of January 1 1996 on Spotify. What’s going on there?!
I didn't notice that! When i look at it, it says 1995! So, i guess Bowie covered them? Ha!
Those release dates are often off (i think they had Low being released in 1976), but that's gotta be waaaay off. They sound like a post 2010 band at least.
there is John Vanderslice Plays Diamond Dogs, which is literally a cover of the whole album – and hes a fantastic musician in his own right if you’re interested (Pixel Revolt is a touching, grand, humane rock album)

This is what I'm looking for!! Thank you!
hell yeah!!!!!!
I saw the Blackstar album performed live. It was incredible. I cried.
And I bought the (extremely overpriced) vinyl of it. But I never listened to it before I got rid of it. For me, it was great live experience that I realized I the album (I also got it on CD) would never meet the experience of, and that I’d prefer to just listen to Bowie’s.
But they did a great job, for sure.
I was in Japsn when it came to San Francisco and missed it, regrettably. I'm not a man who sheds tears easily, but I have no doubt this concert would have done it for me. I've heard it on SoundCloud and it's gorgeous.
Extra comment from me.
Not a complete album cover as such, but the movie "the life aquatic with Steve zissou" has a great amount of Bowie covers performed in Portuguese by Sue Jorge. Movie is great (IMHO) but these songs add an additional layer to it
That movie has a special place in my heart! It's got Bill Murray (one of my favorite actors, with whom I share a birthday!), it's Wes Anderson, AND Bowie songs. W.
So, in my best Owen Wilson impression;
All jokes aside, I totally agree. Don't share a birthday wits Bill Murray but he is one of my power animals in the movie world. Combined with my absolute power animal in the music world in a Wes Anderson movie and you got a classic for the ages!
I tend to be uncomfortable with celebrations that focus on me, so when my family and chums get together for my birthday, I always just say we're celebrating Bill's birthday. My sister even made a cake with his face on it once (with him in shades wearing his red beanie from Life Aquatic). I keep the gifts, though, because Mr. Murray never accepts my invite.
It's not a cover album, but Black Market did some very good sounding reggae remixes.

Thank you for this! I've been looking for good covers of TVC15 (one of my favorite tracks) and there surprisingly aren't many. I wish I could find a good live version on Spotify, but the only one I can find is a bad quality 80's Wembley stadium take.
Easy Star All Stars also do a wicked album cover of Radiohead’s OK Computer
