Tbf it’s not just tigers. All cats are this way. They can be very untrustworthy as well. That’s why you don’t play poker in the jungle. There’s too many cheetahs…
Ill never understand how people are dumb enough to jump from heights without anyone nearby in the water to get to you and prevent you from drowning should you pass out, which can happen even with no rocks or hits or anything...
So he did die because of inner bleedings after failing to jump straight? Or how did he die? Could also be rocks at the bottom of the surface. Or he got unconscious under water?
Less catastrophic than that. He knocked himself unconscious on impact and drowned. Salt water hits even harder than fresh water due to the added density. An impact to the face like that from that height probably would’ve knocked him out on fresh water too.
Sometimes, people get sucked into that cave as well. The water ferociously swirls around before spitting back out. But this one looks like a bad landing.
I grew up on Oahu, my uncle told me a story of when he was young and his buddy jumped off this cliff, hit the submerged rocks right where this guy landed. He broke both his legs and had to hang on to the rocks till help arrived. Needless to say I never jumped off.
Another fun fact is there’s a sea cave that sucks water in then spits it out and you can hear it when you’re up top, you have to time it right so you don’t get sucked into the cave when you hit the water.
I got a T-12 compression fracture from cliff jumping off a 80ft (24 Meter) cliff. I should have been paralyzed from that jump. I should have drown. Please. If youre gonna cliff jump. You dont need to jump over 40 feet (12 Meter). Seeing this makes me sick to my stomach.
Edit: feet are irrelevant to the rest of the world
It's a stance that takes into consideration that people are still going to do risky shit regardless of the outcomes of others "it won't happen to me" mentality. So this gentleman understands people will still cliff jump even if he says not to, so he is trying to get them to do it in a safer manner.
Yes, thank you. I jumped from a height water is essentially like concrete. 40 feet is much safer, gives the thrill of something risky but not fatal risk. Yes obviously you can land wrong. I also jumped without a lifejacket. I recommend if you go cliff jumping to wear a life jacket. I got extremely lucky. I still have not cliff jumped since that day and never will again. But yes people will and they dont need to do the craziest jump.
I have my good days and bad days. The key is staying active. Long road trips hurt. Stretching multiple times a day is a must. But I'm walking. I got close to losing my legs. A piece of my compressed vertebrae was extremely close to piecing my spinal cord. When I got to the hospital it was 80% chance surgery/ 20% recovery. Well after a week it was 80%recovery/ 20% surgery. I got out of the hospital without fusing discs or putting rods in my back. I'm extremely fortunate. Thanks for being kind!
I’ve blown out my eardrums cliff jumping twice. Both times in lake, not the ocean. I would say the ocean is way more dangerous. I’m an idiot but this guy is a Darwin Award winner!

Lots of dangerous shit there. Been four times and been fucked up once from snorkeling/diving near coral and underestimating how insane the waves get. Also dove with sharks, and ya, lots of em. I've been here twice and watched plenty of people make this jump. Knowing the waves and what the water is like, you'd have to be crazy to do this. Making it in the water is the easy part...people have been sucked into that cave and drowned.
Damn...I've actually been here twice. It's called Spitting cave south of Hanauma. I saw a bunch of people make the jump multiple times. I'd say it's about 50' from the highest point you can leap from and make it.
Local told me multiple people have died here, but mostly from timing the jump wrong and being sucked into the cave. The reason it's called spitting cave is because the tide pushes waves in with such force that it spits water back out. It's dangerous as fuck because you're jumping right in where the swell is the strongest. The depth is also super deep there.
Maybe not, but my mom always used to question me about my habits should my friends decide to jump off a cliff, or a bridge. She was very concerned about that growing up.

Apparently the guy was a fitness instructor and school teacher from Argentina.

Apparently he was not fit enough
Or schooled enough
well, he's been instructed and taught now
he got schooled
Not in a Darwinian sense.
That's one way that I can absolutely guarantee that I'm not going to die
What if a big tiger is chasing you up there?
"all your tiger friends are gonna call you a pussy if you don't jump."
Tigers are notably very sensitive to peer pressure.
Tbf it’s not just tigers. All cats are this way. They can be very untrustworthy as well. That’s why you don’t play poker in the jungle. There’s too many cheetahs…
Don’t trust this guy , he’s Lion to you.
Wait till the last second, ninja dodge the tiger attack and watch it fall to it's doom. Light a smoke, walk away without looking back.
tigers went extinct in Hawaii over 100 years ago.

If the locals aren't jumping, don't jump. If they are, sit and watch their form, technique, and placement.
Spitting Cave is one of my favorite places in the world. And it deserves far more respect than tourists give it.
This.

Probably broke limbs and fell unconscious due to the shock.

Ooft, that last sentence made my stomach drop.
I believe that would be Halona Blowhole (I cannot do the accent mark that's over the first a)
No I’m not talking about the blowhole
This is the exact definition (and reason) of Darwinism. He will no longer breed little cliff jumpers. That line has ended. Humanity has been improved.

The life lesson you got after a spinal fracture from cliff jumping is that people should limit the height they're jumping from to 40 feet?!?!
It's a stance that takes into consideration that people are still going to do risky shit regardless of the outcomes of others "it won't happen to me" mentality. So this gentleman understands people will still cliff jump even if he says not to, so he is trying to get them to do it in a safer manner.

Thank you for sharing your story. Hopefully, you have made a full recovery, or at least don't have too much pain. 🙏

No problem, it is good to try and be kind to people, yet we all fall short at some point. 🙏
But damn bro, that's some heavy stuff. I guess the only real saving grace is that you survived it all, and it could have been even worse. 🏥
Good luck with managing the injury, and it sounds like you are doing your best with it. Which is all you can do. Cheers. ✌️
Indeed, that's absolutely crazy.
Also given the fact the entire world operates in metric and feet means absolutely nothing outside of the US it's great reddit wisdom /s
At least he could use something relatable. 12 meters is like jumping from the fourth floor. I'm pretty sure he is still suffering from that jump.
He died doing what he loved. Seeking validation and trying to impress people

Because you did not know to how equalize clear your ears.
I don't know seems worth it to me....
And then his family probably sued the state for not properly warning about the dangers of jumping off of cliffs.
And won. That's why we can't cliff jump at Taylors Falls, some one died they put a fence up.
lol…I do enjoy a good FAFO story.

Dude not the clapping😭
It's the little golf clap someone does after he lands
Impact on water is like hitting concrete
It's wild just how many people manage to kill themselves while on vacation in Hawaii

Crazy how people forget (or don't know) about surface tension.
