I've been working on getting the platinum for the souls series, so far I have 5/8 (nightreign included), only missing 1, 2, and Des. I would like to know if this is worse than the ds3 platinum, like is there an equivalent to the concord kept stairs? and I would also like to know all missable trophies. (SOTFS btw)
It is easy but tedious. Less tedious than DS3.
You effectively have to go to halfway thru NG++ to get the plat. You CAN get it all in NG, but it requires I believe its 500 multiplayer wins in 1 covenant and 500 NET wins (wins - loses) in another covenant, so it's just much easier and faster to go to a vendor at the midpoint of the game in NG++ as he sells all rewards from only those 2 covenants there.
If you don't get many sunlight medals through Heirs of the Sun covenant Co-op then you have to get it via killing enemies for drops like the Proof of Concord Kept in DS3, but you can respec into a cleric build to nuke the group of hollow enemies that drop them with an AoE spell and the bonfire is like 10 feet from them not 300 feet like in DS3 for killing Silver Knights.
There are also some that are some NPC quests that are technically missable, but since you have to go to NG++ anyway you can always do them in NG+ if you want to play a bit blind.
This comment gave me PTSD…
And I've 100% the game on PS3 and PC. I am dead inside.
I’m guilty of my own sins, souls games are the only ones I seek to platinum, no other game gives me the desire to do that but while grinding I wonder “is it worth it?” 😆
Got it. I have played it before, but only had 1 playthrough so I won't be entirely blind. Can you use ascetics to get the merchant to appear or must you go into ng++?
No, you need NG++. It goes pretty quickly actually. I’d recommend getting all the stuff you need from the DLC in NG and look up ways to effectively farm the covenants and then just do a couple regular play throughs. I did the DLC on NG and NG+, definitely a challenge and added a lot of unnecessary time but I also really enjoyed the game. Also I think it’s more fun to not farm bosses, just play normal to get through the Shrine of Winter.
Arguably the least tedious of the trilogy
The equivalent is the sunlight medals for the sunbros covenant. Not that bad though. Its manageable I’m nearly done with my ds2 plat. And I’ve got plat for DS1, DS3, BB, and ER.
Finish the questlines, you cannot miss/fail them unlike the other games (except Navlan so pull back). 3 summons for Lucatiel and Benhart each (you can use ascetics on Rotten and Giant Lord x3). Upgrade a weapon to max, buy one of every sorcery/hex/pyromancy/miracle you see on merchants, talk to npcs for their gestures (there aren't that many), just discover the covenants (no need to rank up), and finally finish the game. Then speedrun the second playthrough and grab the remaining 1-2 spells from the ghost in drangleic in your third one and you're done. Easiest of the series.
Working on it currently. Played through years ago and got everything besides collecting all the spells, hexes, miracles and pyromancies. Just follow the questlines, don't unnecessarily kill NPCs and exhaust everyone's dialog.
For the spells and stuff the toughest part that I finished was getting 30 sunlight medals. With online being dead it is a tedious grind. But hey if you are in my soul memory range I'd be happy to co-op with you for some easy medals
Here’s what you need to do to get the plat without doing any tedious grinding:
Use this checklist. When you get to around 200k soul memory, hang out in belfry luna doing PvP until you get 30 wins for the Hidden Weapon spell. You’ll get enough titanite chunks to max out multiple weapons and it’s super fun.
Once you’ve done this, beeline Harvest Valley so you can join the Warriors of Sunlight and earn the Sunlight Spear miracle. Place your summon sign often as you play, and watch out for people here or in dark souls discord servers asking for help in your soul memory range, and help them. If you get close to 2 million soul memory and you still don’t have 30 medals, wear agape ring until you do.
The only things you need to know to avoid missing trophies are these: When you get to Aldia’s Keep, don’t speak to Lucatiel unless she’s already survived three boss fights with you as a summoned phantom, and don’t pull the lever that’s surrounded by developer messages.
If you want to have a generally smooth playthrough, read this intro doc. All of these guides are spoiler-free, except for the area names in this Routing guide.
And then if you want to know how to build (or avoid building, if you want to have a harder time) a powerful optimized character, this collection of mini guides will help you navigate DS2’s many obfuscated and counterintuitive mechanical quirks:
A quick overview of how damage and defense works in DS2, and why weapon scaling is usually weak.
Best PvE equipment and stat progression document.
BiS (Best in Slot) PvE weapons list. Use this if you know what moveset you like and you want to choose the strongest available weapon with that moveset.
Read these four documents for highlights on some of the best equipment, stats, and progression for a casting-focused character- note that investing in pyromancy or miracles in the early or midgame generally results in a much weaker character.
Optimal Sorcerer Build Guide
Optimal Hexer Build Guide
Optimal Pyromancer Build Guide
Optimal Miracle Build Guide
All that being said, it’s important to understand that DS2 isn’t so hard that playing the strongest possible character is required in order to win and have fun. Ultimately you should use whatever you want, these guides are just to help you make informed choices.
Recommended Setup:
Blue Acolyte is an anti-cheat and quality-of-life mod for Dark Souls II. By using it you are protected from cheaters online, and will be able to find active invasions regardless of your soul memory, along with a variety of other useful features.
Control Scheme setup guide. Covers various ways to set up your inputs in Dark Souls II. If you are using a mouse at all, then make sure to navigate to the keyboard and mouse sections and read about the doubleclicking bug. You will have significant input delay on your mouse buttons if you do not set this up properly.
Center Deadzone Mod. Removes the game’s axial joystick deadzones in favor of a radial deadzone. This allows for complete 360 degree freedom of movement.
Starting Resources document. Covers many of the software and tools mentioned in the pins already, but with deeper explanations and is condensed into one document for easy sharability with new players. Includes instructions on how to set up borderless fullscreen without mods.
This dude DS2s
Tysm! I have played DS2 before and it was fun when I played it, except for maybe one of the DLCs, I will try to do these things, and if I want to try a sorcerer build for once I will use your information.
Well don’t pull the fucking lever in Aldia’s Keep… because that means missing out on a few spells and having to pick them up in ng+…
2 1/2 runs through the game and nightreign isn't included 🤪
It's less of a pain than DS3. No obscure questlines for different endings, and the worst of the covenant items are obtainable from a merchant halfway through NG+2. Also no need to collect all rings, iirc.
One long playthrough and two quick ones as ng+
I’d say it’s a little easier than ds1, as for missables it’s a from game so there’s several (can’t remember which but ones unfortunately)
In terms of difficulty I’d rank the fromsoft platinums
Demon souls <- ds3 <- sekiro <- bloodborne <- ds1 <- ds2 <- Elden ring
