I did too for almost 25 years but my girlfriend has a 2yr old and I'm getting her into the classics of our time. Starting with American Tales: Feivel Goes West because that was my favorite as a child.
Thank you so much for showing it here
I'm Norwegian and see this ad every time I watch TV
It's about recycling our bottles cause sadly animals lose their lives with them. Bottles left on a field may be caught when they make hay and fed to the livestock without us noticing.. and that can do serious damage to them.
"A Norwegian Christmas ad about recycling has gone viral this holiday season, and we’ve got the skinny on the hand-drawn, 2D film that looks pulled straight from the drawing tables of Don Bluth Entertainment.
Directed by Martin Engh and produced by Oslo-based Animasjonsdepartementet with animation by Sweden’s Brikk Animation, the heartfelt and heartbreaking spot has struck a nerve with audiences far beyond Scandinavia thanks to its unapologetically sentimental tone, dark humor, and unmistakable visual debt to Bluth-era animation."
Sorry for the stupid question but.... how? All that should've happened is they fell to the bottom of the bottle when it tilted upright, yes? How could they have died from that?
I work in broadcast transmission (tv). This advert has been on a lot in the last couple of weeks. I'm in London and the broadcast is going to the Nordic regions. Thought it was a lovely Xmas animation until it gets really dark n can't work out what it was actually advertising.
For context iv got 9 different channels on my desk playing out so you normally just catch these things out the corner of your eye and wonder what the hell you saw or just missed. Thought it was the start of a Nordic American Tales or secret of Nihm or something. Tbf that film always got me as a kid
Everything about this ad is really weird and doesn't give a clear message until the very end when it says outright to recycle. Until it says that, I'm not sure what I'm being encouraged to do.
Rats are a lot more resilient than this animation would have you believe. Makes it pretty stupid imo. The furniture was made out of matchsticks, not some super dense heavy material, there’s no way they were crushed. They could have rearranged the furniture to climb out or tip the bottle back over just based on their size in the backlit side view shot.
I mean not only that but this could easily be interpreted as "well if I make sure to litter a plastic bottle on level ground, then they'll have a cozy little home that's not at risk of tipping"
This ad makes it look like littering can potentially be beneficial to wildlife.
Idk I saw it as upcycling like they found a nice home that they probably would have just frozen to death if they didn't. I think I get what you mean but this is a weird way to convey that.
They could have died moving into a small hollow in the ground and it collapses on them. They could have died in a hollowed log that dislodges and rolls into a river. This is just a very bizarre way to convey this message that could be interpreted many ways. I immediately thought "but if the bottle wasn't there they would have had nowhere and if the bottle hadn't tipped they would have been fine."
Not a creature was stirring.
sad upvote
Not even a mouse
I love this type of animation
Now I want to watch this movie
"An American tail" is the movie you want to watch.
Or secrets of nimh
Secret of Nimh. And yes, that’s the one you want to watch if you want darkness
was coming for this...big Nimh vibe...ptsd strike again
I 100% thought that's what it was at first.
It needs a serious comeback.....
Secrets of Nim?
I was getting American Tales vibes but I've never seen Secrets of Nim.
Love American Tales, and highly recommend The Secrets of Nimh. It's a fantastic film.
Nihm is like the exact opposite of the Fival movies. More dark like Black Cauldron vibes compared to Sword in the Stone
Black Cauldron Was another favorite of mine. They Killed Fritz!!
I'll add it to the list of ever growing classics to rewatch.
Another great Cartoon from my childhood. I totally forgot about American tales.
I did too for almost 25 years but my girlfriend has a 2yr old and I'm getting her into the classics of our time. Starting with American Tales: Feivel Goes West because that was my favorite as a child.
The Secrets of Nim is a bit darker.
Ope. Well that's alright. Lol
I was at first too until I saw the bottle
Its dark and wonderful. My daughter is now 17 but loved the movie when I showed it to her
I love swords and, as a kid, loved the look of the bad mouse with his sword
Same guy made both

You're welcome, it's a great PSA and people need to be more aware of littering is harmful to the environemtn.
Theres also a Belgian one where the Smurf Village gets carpet bombed
Holy shiieet, shit went from 0 to a 100 real fucking quick, they literally massacred the whole Smurf Village.
Smurfs - UNICEF (2005, Belgium) (better quality)
Available for YouTube Kids lol.
Jfc. The baby Smurf crying at the end!
Total rug pull!

Omg nooo!!!! It was so cute and I was loving it but then it got dark so fast!
Like an original Grimm Brother’s fairy tale.
True to Don Bluth style stories!
Feivel!! We’re no longer Jewish!
Oy vey, it's a giant mousetrap!
I was about to say "there's nowhere near enough death and suffering to be a Don Bluth film", then I kept watching
Somewhere out there…
Dark.
Oof, that’s dark..
Well animated tho.
Holy shit what just happened?!
A family of mice died. Merry Christmas
Sorry for the stupid question but.... how? All that should've happened is they fell to the bottom of the bottle when it tilted upright, yes? How could they have died from that?
Suppose they can’t escape, all the heat goes away and they slowly freeze to death.

Would a tipped bottle really kill them?.....
I'm sure the fire and the furniture are what killing them.
Even if they survived, they might not be able to climb out of the bottle.
Haha thats even darker, slowly starving to death and out of despair resorting to cannibalism.
Fucking hell
But the fire went out. You can see it in the vid.

I think it is supposed to imply everyone getting crushed by furniture falling on them like in an earthquake or an avalanche.
Probably a bit hard to climb out of it.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I've seen a field mouse run over with a tractor and it kept going like nothing.
hol'up: was that just a mouse trap?
because if it was that was upcycling... even better the recycling.
Is this The Secret of Nimh?
Dark. But I like it
this amination looks like an early 2000's, such a nostalgia!!
Absolute insane ad. Happy holidays!
And Merry Christmas to you, too!
Why is it in English?
They put out two versions, one in Norwegian and one in English for international.
Here's the original Norwegian language one: Infinitum - Christmas commercial 2025
We need more furry PSA
There's another one with the Wolf that came out at the same time, but it's a lot more hopeful and uplifting.
Intermarché - Unloved
OK but the bottle was their home which would not exist it someone had recycled it..
I'm pretty sure the lesson here is it was a mistake for them to use the bottle as their home, lol.
Ville dyr, unngå å bruke plastflasker som hus. De kan falle, og da blir du en del av en søt, men tragisk animasjon.
(I used Google Translate, Norwegians, roast away)
The point is this PSA is poorly made and could be interpreted in ways other than the message it's trying to convey.
Inspired by the Rats of NIMH.
Okay Norway, now do the Minions.
Fievel! I was scared as hell of the ending when i was a kid lol
Was this the Christmas before Dragon the cat had Mr. Brisby for dinner?
Well then.
Ah yes there's that Don Bluth childhood trauma.
This is so damned idiotic. They're mice in a bottle of soda and it tilts a bit, so now they're dead? Like WHAT??

Recycle your crap
By throwing rubbish to the ground and not disposing of it correctly you endanger wildlife.
Animals of all shapes and sizes get harmed by all sorts of rubbish/waste/litter of all shapes and sizes.
The messege is do not litter.
Idk I saw it as upcycling like they found a nice home that they probably would have just frozen to death if they didn't. I think I get what you mean but this is a weird way to convey that.
It did look cozy but they died.
