Sarah Bernhardt's life reads straight from fiction, what an incredibly interesting woman.

    • mother was a high class courtesan, father came from money and paid for an elite education

    • entered the theatre and from a young age collaborated with the likes of Alexandre Dumas and Victor Hugo

    • became fabulously wealthy and world famous

    • the muse of Art Nouveau pioneer Alphonse Mucha

    • ran a hospital during the 1870 Siege of Paris, caring for a young Ferdinand Foch

    • after suffering an injury that led to a leg amputation, had an ornate sedan chair built so she could be carried around everywhere

Also, among many people enamored either her, her was friends and collaborators with Oscar Wilde, who wrote Salome for her.

It’s just one season. We just watched it and immediately had to pivot to Chernobyl. Jared Harris can make some damn good tv!

There’s a second season but it’s not connected to the first season. It takes place in a Japanese internment camp.

I remember learning about her in a theater history class and my professor basically described her as the first true international superstar before Hollywood even existed.

    Any relation to Sandra?

Sandra Bernhard is not related to Sarah Bernhardt. To the ear they are for sure. To the eye, no longer. Yours Truly, Your personal fact checker……I remain.

An unfortunate looking woman, but packed with the intrepidness one could expect from an unsightly woman of that age.

Unfortunate and unsightly? The fuck? Are we looking at the same woman? And what are you smoking?
