Looking for any insight/advice on how to repair this marble in my bathroom:

I can clean the marble to get rid of the mold temporarily (as shown in the last picture) but it quickly grows back. The marble clearly doesn't have the same sheen/seal/finish as the rest of the marble. I've tried a generic marble sealer (Weiman Granite & Stone Sealer Spray) but this made no difference.

I have zero marble experience so any insight would be appreciated.

  • Sadly, your imgur region images aren't viewable here in the UK.

Could it be that the mould (UK spelling) is growing OUT of the marble and not ON it?

The spray will, I think, work once the water within the marble has been dried out. So, if you can do that... The last thing you want is steam forming, so don't let the marble get that hot.

  • I've had lots of success with products from MB stone care. They make lots of products and have good descriptions of what they do. Call them and explain your issue maybe they can help

  • Is it in the marble (do you need to either use nasty cleaners or scrub like mad to get rid of it), or is it just mildew growing on the surface?

Not marble, but I was having the same problem with my grout. I gave it a thorough cleaning, sprayed on some anti-fungal stuff (don't ask, it didn't really matter), then sealed it with a thin layer of ordinary clear silicone caulking (probably wouldn't work well on a broad flat piece of stone, but that's not what I'm getting at). That stopped the "deep" mold, but it still gets mildew on it after a while. Wipes right off now, though, so if I remember to clean the shower at least once a week, it never appears.
