• I thought this was a knightly Veronica Cale for a second

I thought it was a Warhammer 40,000 variant at first

  • Ngl, I love the design of this "Check out my OC!" ass character

To be fair, that can apply to any character released in the last decade

I hate this critique so much. All characters are OCs, that’s how writing works. Do you just not want new characters ever?

I know people don’t like the guy and there are real reasons to dislike the run, but I swear to god I’ve seen “he doesn’t use enough original villains”, “his villains are all OC’s”, “he hates women”, and like a billion other stupid awful critiques of the run that all contradict each other. People are really reaching to find bad reasons to hate the run when good boring reasons exist.

When I use OC it’s as a dysphemism to equate a character to the kind of low quality stuff you would expect to find in fanfiction, hence using a term derived from fanfiction

    I dunno…

    Maybe it’s because…

“Look at me, I presumably defeated the justice league. Oh, and I have a green lantern ring (despite not having a way to charge it and the core never came to question me). Oh, and I one shotted one of WW’s villains. See how much lack of effort I show? I’m so tough, that makes me compelling!”

Prometheus the knock off batsman defeated the justice league, its no exactly a new phenomenon.

    I… never said it was?

You do understand Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Flash, and every single character ever created was at one point just an OC.

When I use OC it’s as a dysphemism to equate a character to the kind of low quality stuff you would expect to find in fanfiction, hence using a term derived from fanfiction

What does this even mean? What makes a character look like a lame OC character?

All characters are OCs, the fuck you talking about?

  • That leg and belt part looks weird. Otherwise it's cool.

Insert obligatory "That's a penis!" gif here.

  • For some reason, he having a Green Lantern ring really bothers me.

Also a Legion of Superheroes ring, so seems to be a “I took down a bunch of other DC heroes already” type of character

Yeah, I think the conceit of her timeline is that she's taken most of the heroes down, since we see her or hear about her executing heroes. It's just the GL ring in particular that bothers me.

Ah, I’m guessing because of there needing to be actual conditions to wear it?

Yeah. It's extremely inconsistent, but most modern version have the ring simply fly off back to Oa on its own after the owner dies, I think. Or, in cases like Hal Jordan, find the next closest person with the strongest willpower... Usually an unspoken rule, writing wise, that someone is heroic and strong willed lol.

Yeah I haven’t read the last issues of the run so figured if it was specifically that ring the point was more that she’s not green lantern worthy which sounds about right. Sinestro did get the ring back but that was during a redemptive era so I can’t recall an instance of a villain who was openly evil getting the ring at that point either

How does she charge the ring?

Why hasn’t anyone in the core gone to retrieve it?

Right? And it's clearly more than just uncharged jewelry because she uses it in the most recent issue.

Yeah it's a time travel story where Diana meets up with her grown daughter Trinity to take down this new villain (The Matriarch)

Personally I think introducing a villain in a flash forward where they've already beaten everyone is jumping the shark but it's whatever...

I’m so tired of this trope.

A new reader would be like, “omg, this character defeated ALL the heroes in the future. Talk about a threat!”

Meanwhile, we’ve seen this done so many times that it’s lost its impact. WW and her daughter will find a way to defeat someone who apparently beat Martin Manhunter, Superman, and Flash.

I mean ... I have both of those rings, on my shelf. From the LCS ;)

It would be much cooler if they brought back the ''power of belief/mental energy'' that Golden Age amazonians had and what made them powerful...instead of giving her all of those items and making her even more derivative than she already is.

King says she's supposed to be WW's Lex Luthor or Joker but right now, she's just another powerful warrior. What makes her any different to Grail? For that matter, how is she more powerful than Grail?

It seems to be the case of a writer hyping their own character but yeah she doesn't seem very noteworthy and as i've also said very boring if she's just Wonder Woman but evil with no different powerset.

She just seems powerful and ruthless. Kinda boring.

Not sure why she’s anywhere near as interesting as those two villains.

Also how does she charge the ring?

What?! That sounds like Gladiator from the Xmen. Apparently his powers is tied with his self confidence

  • mommy

I really love her whole aesthetic & drip but feel Sad cause many people say she is not interesting at all.

DC fumbled it, especially Tom king, which makes me more sad cause I read his Supergirl comic and it's so good.

I hope other writers make her interesting

I mean I’m curious what’s happened so far that has you writing her off as a failure already? Like so far all we’ve had are teases of her character, haven’t even started her own arc start yet, but people are already praying for other writers to come save her and it all seems insanely premature to me.

Yeah fr, so far she's only been built up, she has yet to have an interaction with Diana or anyone else in present day at this point. I say, let's allow the character breathe and exist for a while before we deem her a failure.

Don't relent...there's still a possibility for a better writer to use the character in future stories. Personally, I also love the look of the character and wondering why people aren't talking about her more

I didn't read Comic so much, so can you tell me two things

    1. It is possible to put a character to a different but same type of story and other writers will handle it

(For example, putting her in an Absolute WW comic and the writer have full liberty to change her story)

    1. Is it possible to change her whole story through Movies ? Or animated series?

Both are possible but it depends on the final decision from the company. If the writer decides to take the story to somewhere that they don't want they have the Authority to say NO. At least this is what I know to the best of my knowledge. Majority of the marvel characters in the mcu have gone through the second question you asked

  • Who is that? Does anyone know?

    The Matriarch

She's new, like introduced in the last 5 or so issues new.

Is she am Amazon? Diana from another universe?

    We don't really know yet.

She's the baby from Mouse Island, silly! TK sure is obtuse huh ^_^

    Mice have ears.

Mouse Man Knows! (That your user name checks out! Phew, got my talk back!)

  • I love Mattias De Iulis art, and he does a really good job with her here.

I really hope she ends up being cool and interesting, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • Is that really De Iulis? I feel like this would be his least “realistic” piece to date.

  • Damn she looks like my OC💀

  • Looks too much like Venom.

Plenty of other things they could do including having a similar color just not a stupid cut out.

i don't see why it has you so pressed lol.

Thinking something is dumb ≠ being "so pressed"

    Last time I checked 🤷‍♂️

just seems like you're scared of a little chest lol. You act like her boobs are spilling out of her outfit.

Its dumb sex appeal marketing nonsense that looks stupid just like is littered across the countless other female characters. Scared has nothing to do with it I just don't care for dumb shallow marketing schemes in my hero verses sticking out like a sore thumb. I also like badass female characters and like them to look dope also not ridiculous like many do. I mean the matriarch as is still far better than WW's typical strapless leotard nonsense. Of course that just makes it more eye rolling when they are so close to a legit design but clearly just go out of their way to slap on some bs cut outs.

Edit: I guess you deleted your reply so idk what the full thing was but yes it does look stupid. They aren't fashion models they are superheroes so nobody is going to be opting for boob windows and strapless tops to maximize wardrobe malfunctions not to mention all the stuff the would get inside when you are fighting and knocking eachother through glass and buildings and dirt and everything else and no it doesn't matter if it can't hurt them it doesn't mean getting a bunch of grime and debris in your suit is any less undesirable.

  • Tom King and his OCs 😞

Yes, damn these writers creating characters.

Creating derivative characters that aren’t compelling*

Okay, clearly you already don’t like King, the run, or the character which is all fair.

I for one am willing to give it a fair shake and at least wait until she’s properly introduced, besides who’s to say she won’t be the next HQ or something. Doubt she will be, but I find being so pessimistic to suck the joy out of reading comics which should be fun. So I’ll just hope King sticks the landing then and be along for the ride for as long it’s fun, but obvs ymmv.

Has he… stuck the landing this entire run? He’s been on this long enough for people to act this way. Stop acting like this is issue two.

You know that's not what I'm saying. It's just him bigging up Matriarch with a GL and a Legion ring, and for what?

To make a cool character? Also she isn’t the first character to take trophies to use them and so far she’s solely been shown in alt. dystopian future, ala Days of Future Past, Maestro, etc… where it’s super common.

Plus don’t we want creators to be excited and hyping up their characters? It’s better than the alternative of them just shitting on them, right?

  • Wonder Woman version of Punchline
