• Yeah the teases here weren’t necessarily what I was hoping for. I was hoping that absolute flash would be a lot like the original ultimate Spider-Man where it was a more personal story that would focus on Wally and his relationship with the people in the story. My favorite issue was issue 4 where Wally actually got to be a person and interact with the people in the youth mission like Linda and Ralph. I was hoping we would get more of that.

Here it seems that the book is working more on a macro scale by simply focusing on world building the more scientific aspects of the world.

Everyone keeps thinking ultimate spiderman while I keep thinking New 52 Animal man

  • I think I am excited in seeing the super science side being developed and seeing what Lemire being developed.

And I am glad we finally are getting a full Mirror Master story, and actually getting to see more of his deal.

I have been enjoying seeing the pieces of the Flash side being built and developed but I am excited to see the pieces get more fleshed out.

On the flip side, it is interesting in seeing Wally being in a place where he doesn’t got the same stability or a chance to develop an actual roots like Mainstream Wally (as shown in #4-5 where he tried). I do want to see him after these plot points end have a similar route to Absolute Superman, where he comes back to Keystone or even Central City. He still hasn’t fully become a hero because he doesn’t have the same guidance that mainline Wally so we get to see him being in different situations (trying to steal to survive or teaming up with the Rogues to save his father). I am interested to see what comes of the aftermath of Issue 10.

Learning about the mysteries of Fort Fox and this new power source that powered Wally, the Thawnes. Wally definitely deserves a few moments to breathe and have a new Status quo explored.

  • Seems like there's a nonzero chance that Lemire is going to be writing Firestorm in both the Absolute and mainline universes (as I'm guessing that's the Next Level book he's writing).

  • Atom (Palmer) and Firestorm are namedropped in the book, so they are probably going to be science characters he's introducing.

Which disappoints me severely because the book is about anyone other than Wally. All the scientist characters see Wally as a guinea pig and Wally is just running from one place to another without any interesting personality to speak of.

I will probably drop the book if the Mirror Master story is more of the same, with the villain as the main character while Wally is just reacting to events.

I have no interest in him befriending Firestorm, just awaiting the introduction of Absolute Pied Piper, as Lemire already said he is in the works.

  • Absolute Flash is the biggest disappointment of the last couple years.

Aside from the youth centre issue, I found the first arc underwhelming, however I've felt that the second arc has really picked up. I'm probably more interested to see various story points continued/followed up on moreso than any other Absolute book.

It’s funny I think the best issues are the ones not involving Wally

Everyone else has so much more personality and energy.

Wally so far is just I am lonely and I want friends

I feel this way about all Lemire’s current projects, quite frankly. Back in the 2010s he was one of my favorite creators and everything he put out was a must-read for me. Now, none of his current projects feel like they have that same blend of thoughtfulness, heart, and high concept that made his earlier work so special. It’s sad.

I still don’t understand why his first JSA arc was “everyone hates each other and is yelling all the time.”

Yea. I had high hopes but i find it so unremarkable… 😟
