It genuinely pisses me off so much when I’m trying to mind my own business and I hear someone above the age of 10 go “lirili larila tung tung sahur“ like shut up you’re so annoying. I don’t actually say this to people because I’d feel bad but it’s still really annoying and I don’t understand how anyone finds it funny. It’s just ai generated slop that makes no sense. Not the point of the post but this includes 67 and skibidi toilet. Nothing about any of that is funny. maybe I’m just being a party pooper idk

  • Never heard this in my life

    probably for the best

Neither have I. I have seen the 67 and the toilet mentioned but just decided I didn't even care enough to Google what they mean.

    Same! I just don't care

  • Yeah, you're being a party pooper. I don't understand why it's so damn difficult for adults to just brush off the kids brainrot. Instead, so many adults are so judgemental and mean about it. And for what? To feel better about themselves? Adults used to be kids with stupid brainrot sayings too. Why is it the kids today shouldnt be allowed to have fun stupid little harmless things? And why do y'all have to be so mean and judgy about it?

They didn't say they didn't brush it off. They just said it's annoying, they're allowed to be annoyed

I’m not an adult and like I said I would never actually tell someone they were annoying or to shut up I just think it

yeah that explains it. You think you're more mature thann you actually are

What are some examples of previous generations' "brainrot"?

I can only really think of planking as being an objectively dumb-as-fuck thing that almost everyone did, without really thinking why we were doing it

I think there's something to be said about just how meaningless things like 6-7 are. Yes, it's "harmless" but as someone who sometimes works in children's theatre, seeing 700 kids go apeshit wild because someone on stage said "6-7" apropos of nothing, and they all do the move, it does make you wonder what's happening

i was born in 2005. the brainrot i grew up with was annoying orange, the fred movies, charlie the unicorn, etc. i don’t consider those nearly as bad as gen alpha’s brainrot though.

Born in 1984, so a sentient kid from late 80s through the 90s. There were heaps of fad sayings but even the term brainrot is relatively new - certainly don’t remember hearing it until well into the social media era.

Fad sayings either travelled organically through populations or via radio/tv/newsprint, to an extent. I’m sure adults found some of them to be cringe.

There were also sayings that were more local and you’d find if you went to different places in the same country, the differences in local jargon felt more pronounced. These days brainrot is so ubiquitous due to the way we consume media globally.

Separately, and I’m showing my age here - it’s wild to me that someone born in 2005 is now a fully grown adult 😂. Man, I was still at uni chasing birds in 2005. Gee time flies.

Yeah, I don’t know if it was actually called brainrot back then. I definitely don’t remember it being called that but I was also a child so idk. And yeah, I turned 20 last year! it’s crazy to me myself that my generation are already adults lol

  • Everyone seems to hate it lol, but I find it funny 🤣😅

fair enough! could you explain what about it you find funny? If you don’t know then that’s fine too

  • I have two elementary aged kids… I just embrace it so it’s not as fun for them to bother me with it.

  • Tung Tung Sahur is Indonesian, it’s ironic of all the examples you picked that one for Italian brainrot 😂

You are becoming a curmudgeon for sure though, soon you’ll be yelling at kids when they run on your lawn!

I’m pretty sure it’s the most popular one loll

  • I thought Italian brainrot was that thing where no Italian food is ever correct unless literally their own nonna made it IN Naples and nobody spoke a word of English near the tomatoes while they grew in the garden.

That would be better than what it is known as haha
