For example they always say “ If someone's guilty they'll get overly upset” or avoid eye contact or if they fidget when talking to a cop they're guilty. Maybe it's because I'm neurodivergent but I'm the opposite. I get loud and angry only if I'm accused of something I 100% did not do. And if I'm talking to a cop it makes sense to be nervous because it's a cop.
Yes. And I hate when the people who have watched those shows think they're detectives and accuse strangers of being guilty of a crime based solely on their behaviors and reactions.
Yes exactly!! I’m also neurodivergent but I’m the exact same way
I’ve often wanted to take a polygraph because I’m so high anxiety. Just to see if i fail or not. They’re too expensive though.
I'm a poker player!
Not specifically about people lying per se, but I just find it amazing how much people will give away with their body language in day-to-day conversations and activities.
Shit like "people look left when they're lying" is stupid and generally not true. But the body has lots of other, more subtle ways of announcing what's going on in there.
Like, you know I can see you, right?
When I'm bluffing, everything counts. Not just the eyes, but the timing of my actions, the breathing, the word selection if I speak, it's all crucial. Your body is saying a lot all the time to anyone that bothers to notice.
I often imagine what it’d be like if I were a suspect in some crime because of this lol, wondering if real world detectives know that me being awful at eye contact doesn’t mean I’m lying and stuff like that
