Me when I don't read the chapter and don't do proper analysis

    Yeah that’s not what happened

I'm not a huge fan of this genre of post, where the OP disagrees with the OOP but then rather than finding someone who is actually on Tumblr who disagrees, they just drag it to reddit.

But for the record, the OOP is very wrong. The first page of the chapter says this: "I'll turn the American Flag into a spear, and America's claim to the moon into a homing system!"

Both of these worked. She never tried to turn the moon into a weapon to begin with.

Also, her claims of ownership only work based on belief. If America did believe it owned the moon, then that would have been enough to claim ownership of it, regardless of who had a counterclaim.

    parent
    147 points Levee_Levy

Like how Asa dropping a bag of the equivalent of ~$10,000 makes her think she now owns a local aquarium.

    parent root
    101 points WeevilWeedWizard

Or "losing" a game of rock paper scissor means she hasn't defeated Denji, which happened ~2 chapters ago.

    parent root
    27 points apexodoggo

Or how signing a contract that Fami wrote let her purchase all of the security systems within a government black-site.

    parent root
    40 points ThePBrit

So you're mostly correct but slightly off in your last statement, Yoru's power is based purely off her own belief. It doesn't matter if America believes they own the moon what matters is that Yoru believes they do and she believes she owns America due to their love of war, so by the transitive property, she owns the moon.

An important part of Yoru's character is that she is both crazy and a little stupid, but this actually makes her more dangerous since her childish logic lets her "own" way more things and therefore have a much stronger arsenal.

    parent root
    46 points Quadpen

do people think americans think we own the moon?

    parent root
    53 points Junjki_Tito

I believe Fujimoto thinks Americans think we own the moon

    parent root
    31 points TheHeadlessScholar

He's correct, we do. We put the flag down and everything, everyone knows thats how colonialism works

    parent root
    26 points PlatinumAltaria

It’s funny because in real colonialism they didn’t use flags, they used plaques, which is much funnier. Literally writing “mine” on the land.

    parent root
    1 points RunicCross

To be fair. YORU, thinks America thinks we own the moon. I do love Vibes based powers.

    parent root
    25 points Luxanna_Crownguard

I definitely believe CERTAIN Americans think America owns the moon

    parent root
    21 points Levee_Levy

I'm an American, and I specifically own the moon (I called dibs).

    parent root
    9 points AceInTheHole3273

And everyone knows about the International Dibs Protocol. And the No Take Backs Accord.

    parent root
    1 points JDoos

They even sold me a deed for a plot of moonland as a kid.

    parent root
    7 points Skyros199

I think Yoru thinks we think we own the moon

    parent root
    1 points MyMindOnBoredom

I think its mostly America playing up the Space Race. From any other country's point of view, America was second place for the majority of the space race, and when they managed to get to the moon the US treated it like it was a winner-take-all. And that's despite how the USSR kept being first afterwards with stuff like the Venus probes.

    parent root
    1 points GUM-GUM-NUKE

So what you’re saying is that we should think we own the moon

    parent root
    1 points therandomasianboy

Bro were csm fans we dont read the manga!!!

    parent root
  • 109 points friendlylifecherry

We have literally never made a claim of ownership on the moon, what the hell is OOP talking about?

    parent
    85 points Asquirrelinspace

Yeah literally the official American stance on that has been "nobody owns space" since the beginning of space travel

    parent root
    8 points RubiksToyBox

...I'm very surprised this comment doesn't have thirty replies which all have the word "Musk" somewhere in them.

    parent root
    20 points Visible-Air-2359

Technically the official US stance is "We as a government don't claim space but if US citizens want to claim space they are allowed to in accordance with relevant laws/rules/regulations/treaties."

    parent root
    8 points YUNoJump

OOP misunderstood what happened in the story, as well as CSM’s power system.

Firstly the character DID take control of the moon itself, and turned it into a homing effect on the flag-turned-spear. The moon’s ownership wasn’t in question.

Secondly, the character’s power works entirely off her own perception of “ownership”, not any actual logic or reality. Even self-delusion works, as long as the character believes in her own head that she owns it. USA’s claim on the moon is irrelevant, which OOP missed somehow.

    parent root
    1 points epochpenors

I have but that’s its own separate thing

    parent root
    -21 points justsomedude322

Maybe because we planted our flag there?

    parent root
    57 points DeviousChair

I always thought that was more of a marker that America had been the one to make the milestone of reaching the moon, not a claim of ownership.

    parent root
    39 points Visible-Air-2359

Maurice Switzer once said "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." A minute of Googling would have shown you that the plaque on the moon says "We came in peace for all mankind" and that the US signed the 1967 Outer Space Treaty which bans national claims in space.

    parent root
    -6 points justsomedude322

I wasn't saying the USA owned the moon, I was saying maybe the author of Chainsaw Man thinks we do because we planted a flag there.

    parent root
    16 points Lucid108

Remember: Yoru's powers don't require that she actually own something, she just has to feel a sense of ownership over it. Even if America's official stance on the moon is "nobody owns it" I think Yoru using the moon as the spear's tracking system is in line with Fujimoto's critique of American Imperialism in the last few chapters.

    parent root
    13 points digiman619

Yeah, but the US specifically renounced any claim on it during the 1967 Outer Space Treaty.

    parent root
    -10 points Anchovies_of_death

    Nineteen sixty-what???

    parent root
    4 points wererat2000

We don't do that here. Six is only funny if it's followed by nine, as god intended.

    parent root

It doesn't work if you say sixty

I'm so fucking lost reading chainsaw man, I stopped actually understanding the plot about 100 chapters ago. It's so peak /\

    parent
    10 points Successful_Role_3174

At this point, I'm waiting for part 2 to end so I can read all in one burst like I did part 1 instead of being dragged on and gradually lose interest in it.

    parent root
    -5 points Xurkitree1

There's only so much bullshit I can put up with, the plot's been lost for months. Wrap it up and get to the fucking point already.

    parent root
    14 points WeevilWeedWizard

Completely disagree, I want another 300 chapters of this. I may not understand, but I am having a great time.

    parent root
  • 11 points IEatRatsNMice

the moon is literally going to hatch a abomination like the statue of liberty did, how the fuck did OOP get that from it

    parent
    2 points wererat2000

I understand this makes sense in context, but without that context it just raises further questions.

    And I love that, sincerely.
