As best I can tell, I've seen people outside of Chicago and/or the Cubs beat speculating he could be traded because he's in his last year and Matt Shaw "could play 2B." I've yet to see credible reports he's actually available.
Either way, he's the one of the many '26 Cubs free agents I'd extend.
My thoughts are Jed made this bed when he signed Dansby to his 7 year/$177MM deal. Nico should have been the Cubs SS, and that money should have been put towards a legitimate middle of the order bat.
Only Jed, and he bitched about "having to do it" before the ink even dried. The thing that's funny to me is Nico would likely not get that contract offer from him if he were a FA this off-season. I'd be okay with giving that money to Nico moreso than giving it to Dansby.
These “rumors” have nothing to do with management. They are in a tough spot with some of these expiring deals, and the looming lockout in 27. Happ, Horner, Suzuki, + more are all FA in 27.
If you are a win-now team like Toronto or Seattle - he's literally one of the best choices you can trade for. 2B is flexible enough to shift guys around if you've got one (and not many teams have a better 2B than Nico) and it's a rental on a screaming good deal contract.
I'd bet if Dipoto dangled someone like Woo or Miller, Hoyer would do it.
It is crazy talk as it was last year. With that being said yes it’s a very strong possibility that they trade him since this is a contract year and ricketts is a cheap broke stitch
Nobody actually wants to trade Nico Hoerner, but the Cubs don't have anyone else they can trade because everyone of value has a no trade clause. I saw the same mistake being made last year. It has nothing to do with wanting to trade the guy, he's simply the only guy they could trade for something so people talk about it.
Would be an absolutely terrible idea, was literally our best overall player last year.
We should be looking to extend, not trade him off.
Agreed

Shaw sucks and also sucks as a person. Pass
I forgot about that. Now hope they trade Nico and start Shaw just to make you people cry. 🇺🇲
Go back to the brewers sub lmfaoooo
Ugh! Shaw is an all American out! Nicole isn't getting traded.
Huh?
I have no idea what you are trying to say.

When I heard the Cubs gave Swanson that much, I thought “who was offering him 7yr/170?”

The man is a genius. Old school 300 hitter who is going to drive the runners in with a single up the middle.
A team will all Nico Hoerners would never lose
For real. Someone should do this on The Show see how it works out.
With him and PCA you're almost always guaranteed a guy in scoring position. Hoerners stealing ability makes up for thr lack of power.
Dude we’re not trading Nico
It was baffling this time last year, and even more baffling now. The lineup breaks without him.
Depends on the trade

So trade the build around guy and keep the 2 average guys?

I'd offer him 5/115 to see if he would stay.

Seattle wanted him last offseason too.
Any GM should be open to trading just about any player. It all depends on what they will get in return.
Nooooooooo
Huge Nico fan.
Every year meatheads hate on Hoerner and want to trade him.

Everyone is traceable, if you can get more talent for less talent, you make that trade.
They should not trade Nico but the talk happens every year.
Is Ernie Broglio available?
It's the Cubs. They're basically the Pirates with a bigger market. I've been a Cubs fan for 35 years but damn so I hate them.
Why does Cubs management always have to make this game so difficult?
Hey all that property around Wrigleyville… isn’t going to buy itself
Hoerner is in an awkward place in that he is a quality everyday 2b, but may not be considered a "core" player by the FO.
The front office is stupid.
The owners will do anything to save a dollar.
Idiots need something to talk about
I’ll riot.
Thank you for making me seethe with anger
