I recently created an account with Public for crypto. I answered the marriage status question as married. If I had to file taxes and include documentation from Public, would it cause an issue if I file my taxes as single, on either end? My crypto account with Public would have a status on file as married. I haven't divorced yet and currently separated. Should I just wait until we are separated? I understand that any money I make is considered as joint benefit.

  • No this shouldn’t matter. But you should definitely speak with your tax pro/lawyer handling the divorce to ensure you’re handling your tax correctly.

It can get messy pretty quick.

  • I hope you know that you still have to file as married until your divorce is final.

  • On crypto it wont matter but for overall taxes this is important so do consult with your CPA/Lawyer about this

  • Shehan from CoinTracker here.

    • It wouldn't cause an issue as long as your tax documents have your SSN (which is the most likely case).
