In gully cricket, whoever owned the bat used to bat first, and rest of the players wouldn’t piss him off too much because there’s no cricket to play if he walked away with his bat. This looks like an extrapolation of the same at league level
Yes, it also takes some balls to do it. Because if others decide to get another ball(which is cheaper than bat), and continue playing without you, you'd have no one to play with next time you come around.
Oh it's even worse than just 8(46). His team ended up scoring 327 in 50 overs and it got chased down in 37 overs.
He scored 8 runs at about 1 RPO. Removing his runs, all other batters (+ extras) combined for 649 runs in 79 overs which is 8.21 RPO.
This is like Sunil gavaskar 36*(174) levels of bad but at least gavaskar was legendary otherwise and it was 1975. This guy might have played the worst list A innings of all time lol
Incredible from the opposition actually no point getting him out just let him eat up deliveries and frustrate his own teammates so they throw away their own wickets cuz you know he ain’t gonna do jack shit
Zarawani! At least UAE was open about their policy, they wanted a national Emirati to be captain, since the entire rest of team was expats on work visas. They picked what I presume was the best local, aka the helmet-less wonder.
The 1996 World Cup fixture between England and the UAE was the very first ODI I watched all of... and it was a terrible game, with both teams scoring at a snail's pace (UAE didn't get many, and as was the custom at the time, England's chase was a conservative attempt to make sure they definitely got the runs without losing too many wickets).
It was only notable because Neil Smith threw up on the pitch and "retired ill".
That right there is the reason Pakistan cricket has declined.
Nephews, cousins, son-in-laws...and it's not just limited to being a cricketer, these MFs are everywhere...
The thing is though, can you imagine being in his shoes. His father wants his son to play cricket on a certain level and this guy is just not good enough and being from that region probably has next to no way of telling him no.
Really interesting take! I think about this a bit. F1 has a similar aspect - parents owning teams or paying for their kids to race.
I'd love to meet Ghani to get a feel for him. It's possible he continuously lives with the pain of letting his father down, but it's also possible he doesn't care about letting his dad down and wants to live a dream life as captain of a cricket team. He could use it to pull chicksl, travel, and make connections.
I think Ghani has a lot to teach us all about taking a proper attitude towards life. For that, I respect him.
he is the reason his dad sponsors a team in a nearly dead list a competion employing about 20 cricketers, 10 support staff and contrubuting to the livelihoods of the wider cricket economy.
yes hes a nepotistic pick, but if his selections allows 10 others to showcase their talent, is it really that bad?
It’s not the highest tier though is it? The PCB normally does another One day tournament that is at a better level, last year was called the Champions Cup
Nope, this isn't Grade II cricket. In this system, regions and departments run parallel to each other. They just play in separate tournaments, but it's still official top-level cricket. Regions play a First Class (Quaid-e-Azam Trophy) and T20 tournament (National T20 Cup). Departments play a First Class (President's Trophy) and List A tournament (President's Cup).
There are actual Grade II tournaments that exist in both systems (Regional and Departmental), and they are non-First Class, non-List A. Teams are liable to be promoted and relegated, too
In bollywood there are several cases of father bankrolling their kids careers , its called " launching the son" this is cricket equivalent of the launch

Yeah oddly relevant here that mostly those with new bat & with the attitude were the shittiest in the team.
In the UK we say: "taking his ball and going home".
Yes, it also takes some balls to do it. Because if others decide to get another ball(which is cheaper than bat), and continue playing without you, you'd have no one to play with next time you come around.
This is happening at the very top.
One team holding everyone else hostage and they can't afford to say anything negative.
Players falling over themselves trying to say nice things so that they get that special contract.
May I laugh?
Yes
In his last match he scored 8(46) in a 50 over game
I could do better than that because I would get out before eating that many balls

God even Chris Tavarè could score faster than that
Incredible from the opposition actually no point getting him out just let him eat up deliveries and frustrate his own teammates so they throw away their own wickets cuz you know he ain’t gonna do jack shit
Eeeh bah gum. That is horrible. Brings Sultan Zarawani or the Mararajah of Vizianagram to mind.

Even Tejashwi Yadav has done better than that.
Very carefully batted.
Please don't. His father will hear about it /s

Who are those 3 Jambavans who got out to him 🤣
Some people he paid in freddo multipacks
Certainly good players who faulter against dibblydobbly bowling..

"No son of mine is going to be a doctor!".
Quite honestly, I can see this conversation happening on the subcontinent.
Really interesting take! I think about this a bit. F1 has a similar aspect - parents owning teams or paying for their kids to race.

He is captain material broohhhh..cool
how were his stats in grt 2025?
he is the reason his dad sponsors a team in a nearly dead list a competion employing about 20 cricketers, 10 support staff and contrubuting to the livelihoods of the wider cricket economy.

Shout out to Moin Khan for not doing this with Azam Khan.
This will definitely be popular with the fans!
"Bowling is slow,
[Clap]
Average is sad,
[Clap]
But made Captain by his dad!
[2x Claps]"
Pay enough to his teammates for them to turn up for the match.
The whole country is being run like this.. why are you surprised. ???
What a joke
It’s not the highest tier though is it? The PCB normally does another One day tournament that is at a better level, last year was called the Champions Cup
The champions cup got thrown out earlier this year lol. It didn’t even last a full year
How does his father own a domestic team. Does pakistan nit have state /provincial cricket associations
We do. It's more like Grade II cricket.
This case is grade 2 or the state level

Nepotism, that's the word.
