''A neighbor, Katica Carić, described Golik as eccentric and prone to mood swings. She switched between being quiet and reclusive, and extremely belligerent and hectic. She never socialized with other tenants, but was known for yelling at people for any reason and aimlessly running around the street. She often had angry outbursts even when she was helped and it was suspected that she had schizophrenia. Carić ran errands for her, such as buying groceries, but they never talked, as Golik would not leave her floor, instead lowering a bucket with money and a written list down the stairs, with the items to be dropped off on Golik's doorstep. Golik often left for extended periods, during which time she rented the apartment out to others. Carić claimed to have last seen Golik outside her apartment in the company of two or three young men, the year being quoted as either 1963, 1967, or 1973.''
Electric being paid is one thing, but all of the rest of life's activities, even if you are a sour person who doesn't socialize, seem to be pieces one would see.
It seemed as though she didn't pay any rent, because her ex-boyfriend had built the apartment. It's unclear about mail, but it is possible everyone just ignored anything coming in to avoid having to interact with the woman.
Yeah didn't the lady that ran her errands think it was odd that she just suddenly stopped lowering her bucket with the money and a list? I think it's more likely that no one gave a shit about this lady because they were tired of her shit, so when they stopped hearing from her they were grateful and just didn't think twice about it.
People come and go from apartments all the time. Hell, the lady running errands for her coulda moved away at any moment and no one picked up the slack.
She lived in an attic apartment, which may have helped contain the smell. The Institute of Forensic Medicine and Criminalistics found she likely died during a cold season, and the apartment’s isolated position allowed decomposition to go unnoticed until the body mummified. Although the windows were open, deputy institute representative Davor Strinović said the smell of decay should have been noticeable early on, but neighbours claimed they only noticed it when the apartment was finally unlocked.
So they looked for her across Yugoslavia but no one ever thought to check the fuckin apartment lol

Well if she died in 66 it probably was not in 1973 that she was last seen alive
Nor in 67. Also, what a wild time frame.
This comment made me chuckle XD
No payment of rent?
No one noticing mail piling up?
Or the lack of anyone coming/going?

It's just very sad all around

Did you read the wikipedia? She had told them that she was leaving for an extended period of time, and was known to leave. They thought she was gone.
For 42 years?

She was rotting in that apartment for as long as she had been alive :( she was 42 when she died, and wasn’t found for 42 more years.
And nobody noticed...the...smell? Makes me wonder how bad her apartment must have stunk to begin with.

The flat was provided by the building's superintendent, Hinković, who was formerly her boyfriend
I reckon he knocked her off and left her there to be found and when she wasnt, he got away with it.
This doesn't really make any sense when you read the Wikipedia article.
She didn’t even finish her tea.
