This. Theres a local craft distiller that makes great whiskey, half a mile away, and their stuff starts at $45 for a fifth. And that’s the good stuff. I’m sure the beer pictured above is great, but that’s a lot of money to ask for anything I’d ever buy except for on very rare special occasions.
$30 is still a freakin lot for a single bottle of beer. Granted, at 20% ABV, which feels a bit insane for a beer, I’d probably be sharing one and stopping with that.
For comparison, Troeg’s Mad Elf is $30 for a 6 pack, and their Mad Elf Grand Cru 4-pack is $20. Goose Island’s Cherries Jubilee is $25/bottle, which is a bit more in line with special high end holiday brews than what this costs. But hey, some folks are certainly down to spend $$$$ and I’m not here to yuck their yum.
Nobody told them not to buy it, but people who are knowledgeable about beer know that this is not worth $50 for the actual beer. It's okay that you aren't one of those people.
People who are knowledgeable about beer don't know. They have an opinion. There are plenty more people out there who think paying $7 for a pint of IPA isn't worth it. Are they right?
So you think Hasbro gave them the licensing rights for free, then? I'm not speaking subjectively, New Holland definitely paid money to have this branded with DnD trademarks. That's value that isn't in the actual beer.
All their other variants I've had have been pretty damn good. They also have a few non stout beers in the dragons milk lineup that are great (I personally think New Holland shouldn't throw the DM onto every damn beer but the actual product is good)
It's good, not worth $50. Get triple mash if you want something more interesting than the regular DM, but less expensive than this one
Good call i second that recommendation
This
I was 👌 close to buying one. Then I saw it was $50. At that moment it had no value to me
Same thought. For $50 bucks I’d rather buy two bourbon county’s.
For $50 just buy bourbon

You're paying Hasbro for the licence. Bet that would cost $30.max otherwise. Personally would prefer homage over that

Oh fuck $50 for a bottle? Might as well be giraffe pussy because that's fucking higher then I'm willing to go.
Side project stouts have entered the chat
I guess I’m in the minority on this one. I’d buy two without hesitating.
You would be in the minority if you have $50 to spend on a beer.
I’d wager that you are correct. For something like this, the price is worth it to me.
Why not buy a beer that's actually worth $50, instead of a $30 beer with $20 worth of licensing?
Because nerds. Y’all are looking at this as a beer instead of a highly targeted piece of DND memorabilia
Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it and I would be willing to shell out $50 for this beer.
Who gets to say that it's only worth $30? Who gets to tell someone who can afford to not to buy it?
Nobody told them not to buy it, but people who are knowledgeable about beer know that this is not worth $50 for the actual beer. It's okay that you aren't one of those people.

Don't care. Is that beer worth $50 to me or not? That's it.
Don’t know but I would love to try this. I think regular DM is a bit plain.

I hadn't considered this before, but I hope they don't do to DM what New Belgium did to Voodoo Ranger.
I think the brand name is fine; every DM is 11+% abv and barrel aged.
Id roll to decide TBH
charisma check
I think with the price, it's more of a constitution check lol
Once it passes 16% you're closer to dragon's syrup than milk
🤣
First half: Wow, this is a bit much, but good.
Second half: Wow, is this soy sauce?
Thinner but bigger flavor. Chocolate, vanilla, oak, smooth, balanced, slick.
I e had triple mash and was underwhelmed. It was a very thin mouthfeel for what it was and lacks depth. I wouldn’t buy this
Where do find this
Jungle Jim’s (Fairfield, Ohio)
I sit on these a few years.
I purchased one. I think it was $43.
Have yet to try it. I'll probably have it before the new year.
Is this sitting on a shelf somewhere? Had a devil of a time finding just one bottle for a D&D buddy.
Jungle Jim’s (Fairfield, Ohio)
The various Dorothy Lane Markets have several still. Springboro for sure has some.
Kahn’s in Indy had quite a few last night
Thank’s! My buddy’s daughter lives nearby.
It was was a seasonal limited bottle from like 5 years ago. You’ll be hard pressed to find it
There's a new one released this year.
Not super high production volume, but enough that it's around quite a bit in retail. Doubt many retailers got more than 1-2 cases.
Ah, I work for a distributor that carries DM. We didn’t get any.
It's great. More carbonated than regular DM and maybe a little more body. 20% abv, so boozy. But smoother than the Triple Mash. I liked it a lot.
Worth the $50 to me as a DM who likes DM. I wouldn't bit it all the time, but then it's not available all time. A nice one-off.
I think it’s the worst DM variant they’ve made.
