I’ve tried a lot of games with fishing mini games and the one that easily became my nemesis is Stardew Valley’s, no hate it’s still a lovely game. Dinkum is also a candidate despite not really being a mini game. And My time at Portia is my fav, it’s easy to control.
Worst is Animal Crossing New Horizons as you really need sound on and quick reaction time. I play all games with no sound and I'm definitely not fast. I wasn't able to get most of the harder fish as a result which was a shame as I love fishing in games.
Favorite is dredge as you need quick reactions, you will always catch them but can use the mini game to speed it up.
You don't need the sound on if you keep your eyes on the bobber, not the fish. Strike as soon as it disappears.
The animation of the bobber going under was always really hard for me to notice. Could be just cause I had only played games on my PC before this and the switch screen is small.
I loved the dredge demo! even the mini game was fun
Definitely get the full game (and the DLC, too). It's tremendously fun, and spooky in the perfect way.
Animal Crossing is piss easy. But yes you do need to play with sound on
My favorite fishing mini game is Spiritfarers. Its calm, easy, and fun. Least favorite is stardew valleys. I adore stardew, but the fishing pisses me off a lot of the time
This one and Little Witch in the Woods, both just tapping.
Honorable mention to Palia, but only on Switch. I can't do it with a mouse.
Damn, I found Spiritfarer's fishing fairly laborious and overly timing based. For me it's probably on par with Stardew Valley (also difficult).
If you need tips, hold til orange/red then spam the button til yellow and repeat. If that's what you're doing than ignore me lol, but if there's a chance I can help then I will
It gets a lot easier as you upgrade your skills and buy better fishing rods! Some fish are also much harder to catch than others. I really like it, personally!
In which game? OP mentioned 3.
This comment section is making me feel validated because I really dont like stardews fishing mini game lol
I really love the Stardew fishing mini game 😅 other ones I try, I’m like this isn’t hard enough.
I feel like this minigame gets so much hate but it's not bad once you get the hang of it! I used to really dislike it but now it's my fave
Yeah, it definitely gets a lot easier both as you get used to it and as you improve your skills and equipment, as it should be.
It's an accessibility nightmare.
Agreed, I really like the mini game personally. But it’s pretty tough on the wrist to have to tap that much. Not gonna be possible for all players to play the mini game, especially the legendary fish
That's a fair point, it would be cool if there was a toggle for the mini game so it would be accessible to more ppl ❤️
yeah I love fishing minigames and I've played many cozy games but to this day nothing tops Stardew Valley. Sometimes I boot it up just to fish a bit and then close the game without even saving lol. The only annoying thing is how far the walk to the fishing areas are, especially the beach.
I should start another riverland farmIt’s so funnnn
Same. I need an easy cozy game with fishing being more intricate.
That’s fair I think I’m just not a fan of hard mini games 😭
I feel like that's why its so love it or hate it. People either go into it for the challenge or don't like it for the steep learning curve because cozy for them, means turning their brain off for a little while.
For the record, I don't think either group is right or wrong (I'm pro turn my brain off personally, my husband likes the challenge) I just think that's how it splits.
Stardew lol i eventually downloaded a mod to just make it an insta catch because the frustration was making the game not fun anymore. I like animal crossing new horizon’s fishing though. It felt challenging enough without being rage inducing.
The fishing in Graveyard Keeper drives me mad. You have to watch for a very subtle muscle twitch in his arm, meanwhile he's pumping his arms up and down. Would be much easier if he wasn't moving his arms at all.
Animal crossing and cosy grove are very easy. I like the challenge of stardew and moonstone island.
Gosh I never got the hang of it in graveyard keeper bc I just couldn’t tell!! Wish it had a more obvious sign. Bummer bc that game is so cozy to me and I would’ve loved it even more if I liked the fishing in it too.
Playing Cast n Chill right now, it’s very pretty
Roots of pacha is my favorite cause it’s easy
I was gonna say Roots of Pacha haha it's really pleasant and relaxing
Spent last weekend on Cast n Chill. You can see what the fish are doing and react, and it was a nice mix of challenge and fun.
I despised fishing in Stardew but I really enjoyed it in Coral Island! Special mention Spiritfarer and Cult of the Lamb
Worst is stardew by far, I was so mad when I discovered it was similar for cult of the lamb lol my favorite is literally any other one but stardew or cotl
I love Stardew’s fishing! Dislike Spiritfarer’s because I feel like it takes too long
Moonstone Island's can be pretty tricky. However, there's special dish that you can make to bypass the mini-game altogether, which also makes it one of the most accessible.
I hate Stardew’s. Animal Crossing is easy but I hate that, too. I actually liked my time at Sandrock’s. It’s unique, easy, and not even all that much of a requirement.
I love the way Grimshire handles fishing. You can attract fish by moving your bobber so you’re not just sitting waiting, hoping you put your bobber in the right place.
I really like the fishing in Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles!
Fire Emblem 3 Houses is my favourite.
Stardew Valley is easily my least favourite.
I modded out Stardew Valley's fishing mini game so I could finish the community center. Many mini games are terrible for me accessibility wise. (Big reason I bounced off Cats and Cups).
Really loving the fishing mechanic in Home County! Roots of Pacha’s was okay. I dislike mostly all of them because I am really tired of being forced to fish.
I really enjoy fishing in Animal Crossing and I really hate fishing in Luma Island.
Haaaate Stardew Valley.
I really like the one in Roots of Pacha, feels like I'm actually spearfishing, hahaha.
real life fishing sucks. I had to hold a fish. they're all wet and wiggly
After 8 hours I still can't figure out how to fish in Wobbly Life.
Minecraft fishing is my favorite. I love the simple click to cast/reel, plus it’s a useful food and enchanted book source.
Critter Cove has the easiest fishing minigame I've ever seen. It's not thrilling, but it's foolproof.
I really like the one on everafter falls
Sun Haven is probably my favorite in that I don't mind the mini game and the mini game isn't so over the top that it makes fishing feel like it's not worth the effort. Sun Haven's mini game is also quick, so doing it over and over doesn't feel like too much of a drag.
Fishing mini games that DON'T pause the time are my least favorite because they inevitably make fishing feel like it's not worth the time it takes. Like SoS Grand Bazaar doesn't pause the time during it's minigame, so fishing is extremely inefficient in addition to the mini game itself being kind of unfun.
I like Animal Crossing's fishing and find it relaxing, but I think that's heavily impacted by the fact that Animal Crossing's game clock is just real time, so the time efficiency thing isn't a factor.
Stardew Valley, since they said it’s their nemesis.
I agree with Stardew fishing mini game. I have tried and tried, but could never get it. Now I only play Stardew on pc where I can use the no fishing mini game mod.
Dinkum is my least favorite. Animal crossing and Stardew are my favorites.
I used to hate Stardew fishing, but I understand it enough now that i actually enjoy it. Especially with the training rod now being in the game. It's not as difficult at lower levels. Animal Crossing pisses me off because the timing is such a small window. I hate fishing in that game more than pretty much any other game besides maybe Skyrim. Lol
My actual favorite fishing mini game isn't a cozy game, it's Final Fantasy XV. It's the only fishing mini game I've played that cuts out the boring "wait for a bite" part and makes it an actual activity to get the fish to bite. The waiting is what I hate about most fishing mini games.
Some people hated it but the fishing is actually well done in FXV. Was about to say FF XIV - also hundreds of different fish to catch and I consider it a cozy MMO.
Not sure if it counts, but Palia's fishing threw me for a looooong time. Love the game and finally go the hang of it, but man it was a rough start. I always enjoyed AC's though.
Best is stardew valley, second best coral island. I like it when it’s a little harder! but stardew valley is the game that introduced me to farming, fishing etc so maybe I’m biased.
My fave is stardew haha and I’m not a fan of just reaction based ones bc I find them kind of boring like in acnh. Roots of pacha is pretty unique so I like that too.
Littlewood is nice and easy.
I played a game called Sunseed Island where the fishing was impossible with your first fishing rod. After you upgrade it got easier.
I’m always the fisher in my friend group in games. It’s just my thing. But Animal Crossing is so easy, maybe DDV? Stardew is a pain, but I love it lol
Favorite fishing would be Dave the Diver! Maybe a cheeky answer, and not everyone's idea of cozy, but I love that game so much.
Least favorite is Graveyard Keeper, but luckily I had no problem finishing the game without doing any fishing.
Favorite: Stardew Valley
Least favorite: Harvest Moon 64
Dark Cloud 2 is the king of fishing fun.
Kind of not in the cozy genre, but Sea of Thieves fishing. The controls are really mechanical and janky, there is exactly one correct way to do it and it takes forEVER to reel in a single fish. It’s like, I wouldn’t mind staying on the ship and keeping watch for other players while my crew mates go ashore. But by the time I’m halfway to catching a single fish, they’re back onboard and already raising anchor.
I HATE graveyard keepers fishing game, not intuitive at all and I still have trouble with it 😭
Probably Palia's for favorite! I'm not sure about least favorite. Maybe Spiritfarer??
Worst is sdv or moonstone island Best is littlewood
Honestly, Stardew Valley's would be on my list of least favorite mechanics (it is way too annoying/hard imho and I am not one who wants the easy fishing games. Or rather I hate it when itis just put hook in,, pull out fish. I want some sort of minigame. But SD Valley's is not fun imho cause it's just too hard. It's not even the game itself, it's just how fast and how small of a window of opportunity to catch it has).

this my favorite, and the one from fields of mistria
Recently started playing Shinehill and the fishing mechanic is super simple. Just punch in the arrow keys in the order they appear, and voila, you caught fish! It's overall a very stress-free game.
I hate the fishing mini games in Everholm and Potion Permit. They suck balls. The only good thing about fishing in those 2 is you can turn it off and that feature needs to become standard across all cozy games.
I also despise the fishing mechanic in Luma Island - who wants to chase a damn fish about?! Especially when playing on PC with mouse and keyboard, I end up using the controller and swearing.
From memory as it's been a while and I might be wrong, Mirthwood is terrible too (I might have my games mixed up so sorry if that's the case.)
I will admit to being biased because I generally hate fishing in all games and it's always my lowest skill.
Roots of Pacha is the worst as it's just utterly dull.
I despice the early game fishing in Stardew Valley too, but at least it activates my brain.
Best is Dinkum! Took a bit to get used to, but once you understand, it's easy. Plus the fish don't despawn when you mess up.
I've never met a fishing mini-game that I like. Fishing is the bane of my existence 🥲
