My sister just recently had all of her teeth pulled and replaced due to health reasons. My family usually has a delicious prime rib for Christmas dinner, but she won’t be able to chew it. She says she’s fine with eating mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, but I know she’s more disappointed than she’s letting on and my mom and I want to surprise her with a nice entree that she’ll be able to eat.
Does anyone have any ideas? I was thinking maybe a meatloaf but I’ve never had a tooth pulled so I’m not sure if that’s soft enough. We also traditionally have Italian escarole soup as an appetizer before holiday meals, but we were thinking about swapping it out for a nice, heartier bisque.
This is so thoughtful of you!
My mom has had some pretty intense dental surgery over the years so as the cook of the house I had to learn quickly that half of her problem was the pain she was experiencing, so really Mashed Potatoes are a wonderful option for flavor and tenderness. You could definitely switch to a bisque, something like a tomato or even a home made cream of mushroom soup, both options would be so kind just be mindful of the temperature because heat can cause some additional pain. You could also do a smoothie for her on the side so she has something cooling and yummy to "drink."
Wishing you the best of luck, and a Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Good to know on the heat warning!! She loves mushrooms so that’s a great idea, and a good way to incorporate some beef broth so she gets her protein in
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Make her a bomb-tastic meaty gravy and side of caramelized onions.
And do the bisque.
Also, I'd take a few slices of prime rib and wrap/bag/freeze for when she's ready to chew it.
Oh that’s such a great idea to save her a slice!!

soft stuff, think baby food style. if the meatloaf is soft and has no chunks in it it should be ok, but just imagine you can only chew stuff very gently. i just finished stage 2 of my implants (30M, lower front). ive been eating trader joes tomato box soup with rice.
ask her if shes cool with blended food. personally i liked it
I cooked for a friend in this situation. Sorry, but meatloaf probably isn’t soft enough. However, anything you can purée in a blender will do, even stew or chili. Puréed stew on top of mashed potatoes sounds pretty good😊. Not pretty but very tasty. Think of the texture like a spinach timbale or quiche (with nothing chunky) or softer. Make her a wonderful dessert, perhaps flourless chocolate cake served at room temperature, or chocolate mousse.
