I got very sick last June and was diagnosed with diabetes. My A1c was 12.6 with an estimated average glucose of 315. I just had labs done again yesterday, and after 18 months my A1c is 5.8 (still high, but technically in pre-diabetes range) with an estimated average glucose of 120. I feel really good about myself because it took a substantial lifestyle change for me to get here. The few people I've told in my real life are not as impressed as I expected them to be but I'm trying not to let it dim my excitement.

  • THATS SO AWESOME IM EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU BUDDY!!! KEEP IT UPPPP

  • Congrats!!!! I have family members with diabetes and I know how hard it is to lower A1C, and that’s a HUGE change! It’s less than half what it was before! Amazing work.Β

  • That is fantastic! And it shows how hard you have been working to get your diabetes under control!

  • Yaaaay! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ»

  • FUCK YES, BUDDY!!!!!! As a fellow diabetic, I know the struggle is very very real. Keep up the excellent work, and find a way to celebrate!!

  • Go you!!! So proud of you and would love to know a little bit about how you did it! I'm facing a pre-diabetes diagnosis from my doc, and I'm already at a loss for what to do and where to start!

Because my A1c was so high, insurance covers a CGM for me and knowing what foods affect my blood sugar and how much they affect it has been the biggest game changer. I was an over-eater and had desserts and candy constantly. I became a daily soda drinker when I started dating my now husband. I've given up a lot of that. I switched to all sugar free sweets for the first several months and only diet or zero soda. If I eat candy or dessert I just do small bits. For me if I'm craving something I obsess and find myself overindulging once I "give in" and eat the thing. I find it easier to have a small bit of cake if that's what sounds good and satisfy the craving in a couple bites. I will also say not bringing foods into the house you aren't wanting to put in your body helps a lot.

Limiting carbs in all forms helps. There are so many low carb and keto products on the market these days that you can find more diabetic friendly versions of pretty much everything, though you usually pay quite a bit more.

I also started metformin 3 months ago and I've noticed a huge difference. I have a follow up next week with my endocrinologist so we'll see if/ how she adjusts my meds.

Be active when you can. Everyone's level of activity is different. I work a desk job, and try to do little thing to increase activity like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking down aisles I don't need to go down at the grocery store.

You've got this! Feel free to DM me if you have questions!

  • Well done, you ❣️ Here's a round of applause: πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ I wish you continued good health and vitality.
