Notice how they're merely covering those names until such time that they can feel more comfortable celebrating them once again, rather than doing the only correct thing and demolishing the monument entirely.
In Poland we're going through "decommunisation", started by the previous conservatives gov., now continued by libs. They're changing street names, demolishing any statue even slightly associated with the USSR or Red Army soldiers (many of them Polish) who died to the Nazis. Historical erasure is fine when we do it to the commies, nazis can wait for the IV Reich to save them from under the plaques.
