I’m in Colorado Springs for a few days and am looking for suggestions on a lunch spot for a great burger.

On my list so far are Green Line, Brakeman’s, Public House, Colorado Craft Social and Happy Cow. I’d love to know which of these are your favorite and any other suggestions I’ve missed.

Thanks!

  • Skirted heifer has been suggested a few times, but I'm going to disagree. The cheese skirt ends up being incredibly heavy and greasy, and the buns they use are no good. Their fries are the best part.

Green Line is top of my list, followed by El Chapin . Strangely the burgers in this town are mediocre at best.

Green Line is good, but the owner is a tweaker asshole. Completely turned off from going back.

Skirted Heifer needs a sauce and all of theirs are sweetish. No mustard.

Their burger special is always fire and better than their regular menu imo. I also like their frozen custard w peanut butter cups

Skirted Heifer is the saltiest burger ever. It will dehydrate you like you're in the Sahara.

I’m with you - SH is pretty average. Too much cheese. (did I just write that??!!!! I did)

  • South Park brewery is also good

    Second this

My husband loves South Park's burgers and will ask them to make it with green chile like a New Mexican style burger. I don't eat red meat so I can't confirm but he enjoys them.

This is the one, been several times now and they are always good

  • El Chapin burgers are the best in town. Fries are top notch.

I second this. One of the best food trucks in this town.

  • Green Line, Brakeman's, and South Park Brewing would be my top 3, in no particular order. Skirted Heifer is one of the most overrated restaurants in the city.

Green Line wasn’t my favorite, but Brakeman’s is really good.

  • Public House is fantastic. It’s my #1.

Their Mountain Burger is, by far, my favorite burger!

  • Do not go to skirted heifer. It's honestly an overhyped trendy burger place and that's it. The burgers are dry and overcooked and the cheese gimmick is stupid. If you want a good burger there are way better places like lazy dog on N Academy.

off track slightly- but lazy dogs umami fries are so damn good, definitely recommend.

This was my experience at Skirted Heifer too. To be fair, the bar is set so high by the comments you read here on Reddit that you think it’ll be the second coming. I found In-N-Out to be better than SH.

Agreed, Skirted Heifer was one of the most flavorless burgers I've ever had.

  • Black Forest Cafe in Monument. It'll blow your mind all over your face.

I’ll leave that to ICE agents.

  • I haven't seen this one mentioned, but I highly recommend Lebowski's Taproom on Centennial. Their burgers are fantastic

  • Happy Cow is my new favorite if you like that style of burger. Good people too.

I am in love with Happy Cow! Excellent buns, simple burger made incredibly well. I hope they stay in business forever!

  • A lot of people are suggesting the green line.

Go into the Thrashers entrance and enjoy the bar as well since you can get green line food from there.

Thrashers is sick. Trust me bro.

  • El Chapin

  • Hatch Cover > Public House

  • Brakeman’s is the best burger in town

Going to disagree with this one as well. You'll pay over $20 for a tiny burger and fries. Their prices are insane for the food they offer. Best part about brakemans is the location, and it's not good enough to justify a $20 "smashburger" and fries

Op is requesting lunch burger you can get the lunch box from breakmans for $13.99 includes classic smash, fries and a fountain drink. Upgrade to a beer for $16.99. Idk where your getting a better deal that tastes as good anywhere else.

For a much bigger burger that’s just as delicious (if not more so) than Brakeman’s, I’d recommend South Park Brewing

I agree with you, mostly. If you get the lunch box special it's not terribly priced. But if you deviate from that at all it's way too expensive.

They charged me for ketchup and mayo for the fries. Insane. The burger patties were paper thin. Everyone in my party felt ripped off. Never again.

I love Brakeman’s but it’s definitely the only smash burger I’ve ever had where I thought “maybe this patty is too thin”

Mayo for fries?!?!? I mean for such an absurd request, maybe charging was justified. Mayo for fries?!?!?!

Mayo on fries is extremely common outside the US. Granted it's usually high end made from scratch mayo and not that dog shit shelf stable crap in a jar people call mayo here.

Mixing mayo with ketchup is a popular version.

Its a stretch to charge for Mayo I agree with that.

But its also disgusting and shouldn't be on fries

I agree, most mayo here is gross trash. That's because US food standards are pathetic.

Mayo or Aioli made from scratch, especially in cultures where they have high standards is a completely different product. There's a wide range of flavors and it's actually really good.

Same can be said for ketchup, ketchup here is largely high fructose corn syrup and grossly sweet. Ketchup outside the US is often made from scratch and contains little or no sugar, again a completely different product.

Too each there own, I think (bottled) ketchup is gross, it's mostly HFC and preservatives. But shit tons of people love it. Same with a lot of BBQ sauces, overly sweet sugar crap.

Yea not a fan of the stuff you listed. Idk if the Euro versions are better though. Mayo is Mayo and its disgusting regardless of ingredients.

Way too much sugar in everything, its crazy.

That's the thing though, what we call " Mayo" here is nothing at all like real Aioli.

The "Mayo" here is so bad it's not even allowed to be sold in a lot of countries because it's mostly chemical crap. I have a feeling people in other countries would find it revolting too.

US food standards are so bad, other countries won't even buy chicken from us.

Like I said, Aioli is a completely different product elsewhere. Watch some videos on how to make different kinds and try it yourself. It's not hard at all and there's a lot of variations.

Have you ever given it a try? Very popular in Europe, particularly in Germanic Countries.

Yes Mayo is fucking disgusting and shouldn't be on any sandwich or used as anything but a mixing agent.

Shouldn't charge for it, but its still weird and uncommon

I’ll agree that they’re expensive, but I do feel like its a much higher quality than anything else listed so far. I know Skirted Heifer gets mentioned a lot but it wasn’t THAT much less, the restaurant downtown had trash everywhere and everything was slightly sticky, and picking up the burger left a pool of grease. I’d rather pay the extra $5 for better ingredients and employees who clean the place more than once a a week

  • South Park brewing!

  • Green Line has a read real dive vibe but it's great and Breakman's is delicious.

  • Lebowski’s. Excellent burger.

  • Breakmans is absolutely the best burger COS has to offer. Go eat it and if you don't agree I'll literally venmo you for the meal.

  • I my humble opinion. Green line sucks. Just another greesy burger, others on your list are ok, public house is very good for burgers, skirted huiffer in down town is my top pick. Hope this helps.

  • Manitou brewery and the Keg in manitou both have great pub burgers. Green line is solid. And finally hear me out... i know its cookie cutter corporate, but the rib and chop house has a fantastic burger. The beef is nicely pressed and the bun is soft and toasted perfectly.

Rib and chophouse? Where is that?

    Dublin and powers.

  • I had the Happy Cow last weekend and I wasn't very impressed. It did get crowded though while we were there so others may like it, but I wouldn't make an effort to go there again.

They also have only been open for like a month. If you're looking for a local organic waygu burger, there's nowhere else to get it like they do it there.

Why weren’t you impressed? Give done details at least. I enjoyed the burger, although more of their sauce would be welcome.

To me, the burger wasn't anything special that I couldn't find anywhere else. It wasn't a bad burger, just had higher hopes. Cute little place though.

Ok. The fries cooked in beef tallow are a winner for me.

Agreed, more hype than deserved. We went as a party of four. Two burgers were wrong, half of the ordered fries were cold. Replacement burgers took too long and one still had wrong toppings.

We were lucky and the first to order lunch, so ours came relatively quickly, but the people right after us seemed to have waited forever for theirs

  • The Local Table in fountain has a great burger.

  • In Manitou Springs, Toasted Bistro. Their smash burgers are soooooo tasty

  • Alchemy in OCC

  • Brakemans is by far the best. Green line grill is a close 2nd. The skirted heifer is overrated. Also, the Chuckwagon 719 has an amazing number but they have limited hours so it's always good to check Facebook first.

  • Public House and Brakeman's were my two so..yeah.

  • Went to brakemans last night and highly recommend

  • Brakeman’s does a lunch special if you like thin crispy smashburgers.

  • Green Line for sure! I would suggest getting light seasoning on the fries since they tend to be salty imo.

  • Public House, South Park Brewing for smashburgers and Prime Kitchen at Westfax are my faves…Prime is closed on Tuesdays I think. I have no idea why people like Green Line. Brakeman’s went through a remodel recently and only have smashers and they also did away with their fantastic fries. Skip them and enjoy the nice outdoor deck at South Park.

  • Hatch cover bar and grill, I recommend the triple play burger. Also green line grill and skirted heffer.

  • Susies West Side Cafe makes a great burger and they have the best fries in town.

  • I really like Fat Sullys burger

  • It's better known for its pizza but Parrys Pizzeria makes a really good burger

  • The Happy Cow is a new local restaurant that has awesome local ingredient, organic waygu burgers. Plus they are seed oil free and use beef tallow for their fries. Great lattes in the morning too!

  • Skirted Heffer is good but expensive.

  • I really like Bingo Burger downtown.

It’s been closed for over a year now due to a fire.

Shoot I forgot. I hope they can reopen. There’s one in Pueblo that I think was the original one.

Didn’t they close (sadly)? Or did they move locations

  • [deleted]

Why does this get downvoted? I have friends that can’t wait to go here when in town

    [deleted]

    Litterally the top comment...

Way too much greasy, nasty cheese with their skirt.

  • El Chapin is best burger in town, no contest.

  • Red's Sunset Grill by the Ford Theater has the tastiest burgers I've found.

  • We had Bad Daddy’s a few weeks ago and it was spectacular.

  • Brakeman’s is best in town by far if you’re into smashburgers

South Park crushes them. Brakeman’s doesn’t even have proper lacing like South Park, they were alright/pretty good, but they used to be great before the update.

Or do they “smash” them? ;)

  • Back east is good

  • Five Guys has the tastiest burgers!!!
