Week 3
I've been doing a series like this over on /r/CFB for 6 years now, started for College Basketball last year. The post attempts to visualize consistency between voters in the AP Poll in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.
Paul Klee and Jack Ebling did not submit a ballot this week, and Brian McInnis and John Feinstein were not replaced, bringing the number of voters down to 61 for this week.
Wayne Epps was the most consistent voter this week. David Cloninger and Clayton Collier remain #1/#2 on the season, with Sheldon Mickles moving up into third, Matt Murschel in 4th, and Wayne Epps in 5th.
Jesse Newell was the biggest outlier this week by a wide margin. He remains the biggest outlier, followed by Dave Preston, Dave Borges, Jon Wilner, and Donald Hunt.
What illicit substances is Seth Davis on?
It's 2020, can you blame him?
He only moved us up 1 spot from last week.
Well if he's sleeping on Houston, probably lean then?
Wtf I love Seth Davis now
Fuck Stephen Means. 17th. Are you fucking kidding me?
Cecil Hurt fully leaving Illinois off his Ballot. The only other guy to put Illinois outside the Top 15 was Jesse Newell who is a huge fan of Kenpom rankings and typically is way off early in the season.
Lol of course the Illinois writer put us at 6
I need what Jesse Newell is smoking
He does the same thing every year, ranks pretty much straight from KenPom. Early in the year it can look a little weird.
He has Illinois 6 spots ahead of Kenpom so that's not his only metric at least.
at least he doesn’t still have UK ranked
I actually kinda like Newell’s rankings, and that’s not just because IU is so high
Shoutout to Borges and Preston
They the real ones
We're ranked as high as 8 while multiple voters continue to refuse to rank us at all
I'm confused about what to do with Iowa. They've dominated so far and Garza is great, but have had no real opponents yet. I think they're a good team, but I'm surprised how strong the consensus is that they're a top 3 team in the country. The game against UNC this afternoon should help sort it out.
I do think we beat UNC, and that's the problem. i think we're barely good enough to beat UNC, and we'll get moved up, and then we'll get embarrassed by Gonzaga, and everyone will just say that it's Gonzaga and that makes sense. We just don't have the defense to play with the best of the best, but we should be ranked about 12th, and we should beat UNC at home.
