• It's a next to impossible job at a commuter school where all the attention in the city goes to KU, K-State and Mizzou. I don't envy anybody trying to take that job on.

counter point, their mascot is a kangaroo. Thats dope af

Also, they beat Mizzou in 2021. So who's the real little brother?

Genuinely the worst basketball game I've ever attended

    But you did attend it

(They’re on a two game win streak against us)

also didn't they used to play at Municipal Auditorium? Guessing they couldn't justify the expense?

I still think we need a bigger arena though, Swinney is just too small.

I love municipal, I wish they could justifiably move back but it’s probably too big still.

I think they should invest in a new on-campus arena that's big enough to not be a rec center, but also not too big that they can't fill it like Municipal.

I hope they can get that done, the Swinney Center just feels so small and maybe not the best facility in the area. In the meantime, I wish Municipal could host a team of any kind long term.

They put out an RFP for one right by the streetcar but I don’t think it went anywhere.

Yeah, but they play on-campus as part of a larger effort to not be such a commuter school. Plus they definitely weren't filling up the Muni.

They play on campus in their communal student rec center… seating capacity barely over 1,000.

Isn’t Wichita State historically in a similar boat, competing against KU, KState, OU, OSU, and even Arkansas, for attention? I think they’ve proven with the right coach you can overcome those issues. Although, I will say UMKC’s issues go beyond this.

Meh. I wouldn’t say OU, OSU and Arkansas are big factors there, nor Mizzou.

I think WSU maybe has that issue to some extent but there is an event greater imbalance between K-State, KU, and MU have more alumni in KC compared to UMKC thank K-State and KU alumni in Wichita.

UMKC also has a interesting situation where it also has a lot of international and grad students. Just based on vibes, WSU has a greater portion of “typical” undergrads that would be interested in college sports.

  • Coaching carousel started early this year.

  • Bro gonna take them dancing like the Long Beach State guy lol

  • This needed to be done btw, wasted a talented team last year and hasn't done anything to keep his job, brutal collapses in the Summit League tournament are glaring examples of this, Very curious to see what our coaching search looks like.

They’re extremely bad this year. 4-14, 1 D1 win, and have a 6-point win over NAIA Evangel and a 13-point win over NAIA McPherson College: in both games they trailed at halftime.

  • Writing was on the wall after last year’s failure. Was hoping he could lead us to the program’s first NCAA bid, just not in the cards for us.

  • Man he has gotten early exits everywhere he goes. He had a very forgettable stint at UNLV.

Not true though. He was a really good coach for a long time at New Mexico State before UNLV hired him. He also found Pascal Siakim and recruited him to NMSU. Pretty sure he was at NMSU for like 10 years

And his team shoulda beat yall when we faced each other in the ncaa tournament to boot.

  • I wish they’d go back to playing at Memorial Auditorium, maybe have one or two home games a year at T-Mobile, and try to integrate themselves with the College Basketball Experience.

UMKC is the only D1 team in the KC Metro (no, Lawrence is not in the KC Metro) and I really feel like they should be better than they are.

For further context, this season they have only 1 win over a D1 team and had to come from behind in the second half to win in two different games against NAIA teams.

Always thought they didn’t do enough outreach to locals. There’s also weird politics around the UM system.

I think the Roos could get a decent following, especially young kids, in the KC area. I was a Roos fan growing up because of a basketball camp I did with them.

It’s a big missed opportunity for the metro imo. UMKC does a great job serving as a local grad school for the city’s professional class but I do think it punches below its potential weight for cultural impact. Hopefully being on the streetcar ties it closer to the rest of the town.

This is very similar to IU Indianapolis ,where I went to law school.

UMKC is the only D1 team in the KC Metro (no, Lawrence is not in the KC Metro)

At the rate the metro is expanding, give it 10 years

  • I had high hopes when he came in but it never worked out.

  • Time for him to possibly an assistant coach.

  • I see they're going with the long beach state strat to make the tourney

  • It's tough to find success in those situations where the local talent is overshadowed by bigger programs, but hopefully the rest of the season brings some positive moments.

  • Heard Ky is trying to get rid of Mark Pope. Thats clearly more on his level.

He shouldn't be hard to find, just look for the angry crowd with torches.
