If preseason you had told me we would have 14 wins for the entire season I would’ve said that was overly optimistic. To win 14 of our first 16 is nothing short of a miracle. Holloway has done an absolutely incredible job, I’m just going to enjoy it and be along for the ride the rest of the year.
Brother I am terrified to go to Newark. At Seton Hall is our boogeyman (along with at Creighton but we conquered that last year). We haven’t won at Seton Hall since the Obama administration.
In all seriousness though, I expect Sha and crew to give them a real fight, even if they get down. There is no quit in these guys. I think that’s one attribute one can reliably ascribe to this Hall team. That said, I expect Danny to have his guys fully prepared, and our team’s tendency of getting down and playing from behind can and will burn us against top competitors.
You're not wrong, but if another edge team does something impressive as the #25 you probably should get knocked off. If they were 23 thats another thing.
I get it IS that bad, plus I have no ties to Miami, so I don't think its an injustice not to rank them.
But I feel like 20-40+ is all just a mishmash anyways, you might as well just throw Miami the #25 spot to recognize what they're doing. I know the schedule is weak, but they're not fully in control of that, plus its not like they're completely outclassing their opponents in resources or anything.
I just feel kinda bad because from what I understand Miami really struggles to get teams to play them. Xavier and Cincinnati as I understand it both dropped the series as being not worth the risk.
I'm sure it could be stronger, but they also have financial interests they can't ignore. I don't think Miami set out to have the weakest schedule in the country on purpose.
A T25 team would be mauling most of the teams on this schedule. Sure, tight games against bad opponents happen, but when you've got a dozen of these bad D1 teams on your schedule and only 2 of them are blowouts, that's a problem.
Milligan college, Mercyhurst, Trinity Christian, uapb, IU East, Maine. The best team they've played is Akron, at KenPom 56, followed by BGSU at 118.
Miami is going to go undefeated and win the championship and beat the Thunder in the off-season. But on the same token, then may not even be a top 75 team in the nation. We don't really know with a schedule like this
By efficiency metrics, we're definitely not in the top 25 (97 in Kenpom, 85 in Bart Torvik's rankings).
Our SOS is atrocious, but in Torvik's Wins above Bubble metric we're 27th, so it's not like being undefeated is totally unimpressive. I think being one of the last five teams undefeated should get you some bonus points and a ranking but I'm not offended that we're not
Well there were only 2 voters that had iowa state ahead of arizona last week, so guessing one flipped. Arizona and Iowa State had very similar weeks so i kinda expected no one would flip and iowa st would get 2 votes, but getting more than 3 would’ve surprised me.
Tbh the chances that both iowa state and arizona get thru this week unscathed are under 50% but if they do both manage to stay undefeated, maybe we get a couple more votes if we win more convincingly.
@KU and @Cincy. Both are games past teams would almost certainly drop (whether it means a gritty heartbreaking loss to KU, or a frustrating head scratcher to Cincy), but we'll see if this team is different. Previous teams would've absolutely rolled over @Baylor the way that game went.
That surprised me too. I'd personally have Arizona at #1 because of the consistency they've had in their high level games. But ISU's 23pt win @Purdue is still the single most impressive win between the two - arguably the most impressive in the NCAA this season. You'd think that'd be enough to sway a small handful of voters.
This is my thinking as well. That Purdue blowout looks better every week. Arizona also beat UConn, but it certainly wasn’t the dominating win that Iowa State had with their marquee win (and UConn fans will be quick to remind you that they were missing a couple guys). Plus, the rest of Arizona’s non conference opponents have racked up some losses lately (Alabama, UCLA, Auburn, Florida). So those wins, while still good, aren’t QUITE as impressive as they initially seemed.
I thought we were definitely unranked now, we probably still will be if we’re not at full strength vs UVA tomorrow.
Decent chance this is our last week being ranked too if we never get Mikel back with the remaining schedule. Bounced back vs BC but these performances we’ve had lately won’t fly against other teams. Postseason looking nonexistent rn.
Last few weeks, i've been on AP poll's side, especially when Nebrasketball passed Vanderbilt, but now that User Poll is the first to rank Miami, i'm on their side.
I’m so invested in getting the highest ranking ever now. Need 1 of Michigan/Purdue/Duke to slip up on their west coast trips and Nebraska to take care of business.
Robbie Avila is so fun to watch. The Sycamores miss him so much I bet. All his nicknames are so good! The Goggled Great, Cream Abdul Jabar, Milk Chamberlain, Larry Blurred.
Seriously though… Tennessee lost to an unranked team (their 5th loss) and only dropped 3 spots but Iowa lost to a ranked team (their 3rd loss) and dropped down past Tennessee and out of the rankings? How?
Too bad we don't play each other until almost the end of conference play. 1-2 matchup would be awesome, but given the gauntlet of B12 play it's not very good odds we'll stil be up there.
The giant conferences create this scheduling problem and it fucking sucks. We (ISU) should be home & away with both KU & Kansas State. It blows hardcore that we had to give one of those protected rivalries up.
And until Arizona has a win which is as good as ISU’s win at Purdue (that UConn win keeps looking better and better, but it was a very close game and not everyone suited up for UConn) Zona might not get there. And that is ok. You guys deserve to be where you are, and getting first place votes is part of that.
We got 1 out of 61 votes so I don’t really feel like there’s some sort of reasoned split here. If we both go 2-0 this week, Arizona very well may get a clean sweep a week from now anyway.
Maybe, maybe not, it’s January. I’m thrilled that Arizona is ranked #1, but I’m also thrilled that another team in our conference is also undefeated, is ranked #2, and has some argument as to why it’s not unanimous.
I’ve always felt like Iowa state is just happy to be there, both in football and basketball. There isn’t the UConn or UK expectation of excellence for basketball and Alabama or Georgia expectation of excellence for football. This is just my take and I humbly welcome other opinions
totally agree.....I expect Iowa State to be a pretty prominent team that's always in the big dance but we are not irrational as to expecting Final Four's every year. Hell, we've made an Elite 8 once in my life but I don't remember it lol.
If we can make an Elite 8, I'll really start to believe....but honestly I'm just having fun watching this team. The Big 12 slate in the back half will be brutal so hopefully our fans don't completely go nuts if we take a few L's.
Last week I called the ISU victory over Purdue a “moralizing defeat”, Purdue took that loss personally and stepped the hell up afterward. It makes the win over them look even better, and feels supremely on brand for both ISU and Otz, that y’all could throw down in someone else’s house and both teams came away better for it.
That Florida win will count much higher as the season goes on…. Florida can beat anyone in the country. They are really good. Had some really tough losses vs. really good teams so far.
beating CMU, Buffalo, and Kent State by 10+ pts should do it. Also, Kansas , Tennessee, and Seton Hall losing. Also, it would be ideal for Wright State and Akron to keep winning
I know people currently probably think Iowa State is historically pretty good and while we've had some good seasons, we are historically pretty mediocre....but who cares?! We are freaking the 2nd ranked team in the country
There are some very scary teams in that 10-20 range at this point in the season who are like 1 or 2 things clicking perfectly away from being imo in convo for the best team in country by seasons end.
Game against Utah was way too close for comfort. They seem to reliably play their best game of the year against us. I dunno that we needed to drop 2 spots after a win though.
Eh I disagree. Compare each Purdues and Michigans loss and it kinda shakes out between loss margin and opponent quality, honestly Purdues loss is worse. And Michigan is still comfortably 1 in metrics. Didn’t see them dropping below 4
We smashed Wisconsin in their own gym. Michigan lost to them at home. Since Michigan hasn’t played Iowa State, we have no idea how that game would go. So yeah, I’d say we deserve to be higher
Unlike in football, there are enough games and enough playoff spots where I’m confident that will self-correct if it’s true (fwiw, I completely agree).
Vandy has now been ranked in the Top 10 this year in football, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Your turn now, baseball, to prove people wrong.
Tennessee being in the top 25 is a joke. We’re riding off of some early season wins, but since that 3-game losing streak in NC play, we look like we’ve forgotten how to dribble, pass, or inbound without turning the ball over. Coupled with the fact that every one of our big guys has slippery hands and can’t hold onto a pass or rebound, we have a legitimate chance of missing the dance.
Is the AP aware that they are voting on Basketball? Alabama Florida and Tennessee being ranked with 5 losses while there are plenty of 2 loss teams to consider is asinine.
ARIZONA AND THE IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY ARE UNDEFEATED AND RANKED #1 AND #2 RESPECTIVELY AND THEY SHALL REMAIN THAT WAY UNTIL THEIR MATCHUP IN TUCSON ON MARCH 2ND.
We literally just beat Wisconsin at Wisconsin, how can Michigan lose to Wisconsin at home and stay infront of us. If we were closer to March I’d be pissed right now
U forget that Michigan is the greatest team of all time and shouldn’t have had to play Wisconsin because they should’ve just be given the trophy and a ladder/scissors to cut some nets instead.
Enter rankings today, play UConn tomorrow.
Hello, goodbye.
Unless...
Sir, have you seen how UConn plays @ Seton Hall?
This is one of those trends that is not sustainable. Hoping for a win tomorrow but don't feel confident.
U gotta believe
You gotta do what?!
You guys have had a great start to the season. Honestly my least favorite game on the conference schedule
Hey man. Clear eyes full heart.
We suck playing you guys away. I’m prepping for an L tomorrow.
You guys have our number. I predict you guys going higher in polls by next week
Not looking forward to SH pulling 15 3s out it's ass in Newark.
Pirate CREWWWW! You gotta believe!
This is everything wrong with the AP poll. You should absolutely not be penalized for losing to UConn
You're not wrong, but if another edge team does something impressive as the #25 you probably should get knocked off. If they were 23 thats another thing.
To be fair, we probably don't belong near the top 25 at all...so it'll really just be a course correction.
The issue is that we're on the very edge so if any team below gets a decent win and we lose to UConn it's very reasonable for us to get jumped
Agree with my fellow Huskies. Take Seton Hall m/l
#29, moving on up! Just gotta keep winning!
Who will get to the top 25 first? Miami (OH) or Miami (FL)?
Both SHOULD be ranked this week
Is your schedule that bad that you’re undefeated and not yet in the rankings? Seems like you’re getting screwed.
Yeah, it is that bad. No power conference opponents and a KenPom SOS in the 340s.
I think pollsters and the ncaa committee don’t want to reward that sort of schedule too much.
No, I get it.
Objectively, they aren't playing like a T25 team.
A T25 team would be mauling most of the teams on this schedule. Sure, tight games against bad opponents happen, but when you've got a dozen of these bad D1 teams on your schedule and only 2 of them are blowouts, that's a problem.
Look at the teams. It's an absurd schedule.
We don't really know with a schedule like this
Kenpom has their SoS at 347.
I think being one of the last five teams undefeated should get you some bonus points and a ranking but I'm not offended that we're not
Wow. All but 1 first place votes. I actually expected Iowa State to get a few more than that single first place votes, but I’ll take it!
I did too. I really thought that there would be more than a handful of them. I can’t wait to see the voting breakdown.
Well there were only 2 voters that had iowa state ahead of arizona last week, so guessing one flipped. Arizona and Iowa State had very similar weeks so i kinda expected no one would flip and iowa st would get 2 votes, but getting more than 3 would’ve surprised me.
I could see it tightening up depending on how this week goes with us having @KU on the schedule.
Tbh the chances that both iowa state and arizona get thru this week unscathed are under 50% but if they do both manage to stay undefeated, maybe we get a couple more votes if we win more convincingly.
Arizona hosting ASU is never a sure thing, and then playing @ UCF? That feels like a trap. And you guys play at AFH, sooo... yeah.
3 road games plus home game against in-state rival is a very tough week.
Hey. Look at us. Who would have thought?
<Insert paul\_rudd.gif here>
That surprised me too. I'd personally have Arizona at #1 because of the consistency they've had in their high level games. But ISU's 23pt win @Purdue is still the single most impressive win between the two - arguably the most impressive in the NCAA this season. Plus, the rest of Arizona’s non conference opponents have racked up some losses lately (Alabama, UCLA, Auburn, Florida). So those wins, while still good, aren’t QUITE as impressive as they initially seemed.
ISU not completely blowing us out probably hurt them honestly.
Not to mention, as wild as it sounds, Iowa State and Arizona are both 5-0 in Q1, 4-0 in Q2, and 7-0 in Q4.
I'm well aware of the massive difference in quality between the Q1 wins though.
Zero Q3 wins? Guess we're both frauds.
I really want to know the Head Coach in the coaches poll that voted Michigan.
AP TOP 25 Poll: Week 10 / January 12, 2026 [Points] {First Place Votes} (Trend, !=largest +&-)
Others Receiving Votes: Saint Louis 92, Kansas 60, Iowa 58, Miami (Ohio) 49, Villanova 40, Wisconsin 37, Miami 30, Texas A&M 23, UCF 18, Saint Mary's 17, SMU 15, Auburn 14, George Mason 8, NC State 3, Southern Cal 1, St. John's 1.
Dropped From Rankings: Iowa (#19), Kansas (#22), SMU (#24), UCF (#25).
Reminder: Tell your kids about 16-0 #8 Nebrasketball.
Call us the Jeffersons the way we movin' on up
Pump those brakes buddy
Last few weeks, i've been on AP poll's side, especially when Nebrasketball passed Vanderbilt, but now that User Poll is the first to rank Miami, i'm on their side.
What did we do ;-;
Had a worse schedule than Nebrasketball until last week. You fine now. Also, your name doesn't have a cool portmanteau with my favorite sport.
Hey we can make Vanderbasketball a thing…
Yeah ur right it doesn’t have the same ring
I don't hate it. Vanderball is the obvious choice, but it's not sport specific. With the year you are having in all sports...
Vandasketball? Rhymes with fantastic ball
Jesus how did Virginia go up 5040 spots in one week?!?
Flair up, but with that nerd talk, I'll assume you are Purdue
Its the biggest nerds that are always unflaired
We did it, UConn! You have a ranked conference game on your schedule!
Crowd would have been rowdy enough minus a ranking. Now that you guys are ranked, they might be extra rowdy tomorrow.
#8 Nebraska. Never thought I would see the day
Coaches poll 1991! Just one more spot to go for the highest ranking in history.
If I'm not mistaken, that would also tie Creighton's highest ever.
That would actually be hilarious if that happened lol
I’m so invested in getting the highest ranking ever now. Need 1 of Michigan/Purdue/Duke to slip up on their west coast trips and Nebraska to take care of business.
Why don't we just beat Michigan and Purdue?
Makes more sense to me.
Why many losses when few losses do trick
Fact checked: True ✅
Ne8rasketball!!
Nebraskeightball
Ranked Utah State!!!!
hell yessssss
Took them long enough
Should have happened a long time ago.
Moving on up! If we keep this pace we should be negative 8 by the start of the tournament.
Seems like that's not how it works, but I can be arsed to look it up. So I'll just assume you are correct!
Hey all of this is new to us. We don’t know how any of this works
RANK US YOU COWARDS
Robbie Avila is so fun to watch. The Sycamores miss him so much I bet. All his nicknames are so good! The Goggled Great, Cream Abdul Jabar, Milk Chamberlain, Larry Blurred.
26 is NOT top 25. DO BETTER AP!
Bama too high lol
CC: Tennessee
Seriously though… Tennessee lost to an unranked team (their 5th loss) and only dropped 3 spots but Iowa lost to a ranked team (their 3rd loss) and dropped down past Tennessee and out of the rankings? How?

Don't bring that cursed ju-ju here
Seriously let’s keep all Husker football stuff as far away from Nebrasketball as possible. Nothing but bad will come from it.
BIG#1#2
🤝
Y'all don't play each other until March?!?! What a build up!
Too bad we don't play each other until almost the end of conference play. 1-2 matchup would be awesome, but given the gauntlet of B12 play it's not very good odds we'll stil be up there.
or how about we just win out and that game decides the Big 12?
Iowa state has a history of getting tired and now we are in the section of our toughest games so i genuinely have no idea what will happen
It is a crime we only get Arizona-ISU once and it's not until March
The giant conferences create this scheduling problem and it fucking sucks. We (ISU) should be home & away with both KU & Kansas State. It blows hardcore that we had to give one of those protected rivalries up.
Yeah it’s sad. But if we can both stay in the top 3 it will be the game of the year
Florida should be ahead of Alabama. Florida beat 2 ranked teams last week, Alabama lost to Texas.
I don't trust your intentions.
Yeah Alabama that high is ludicrous
They should be unranked, five losses and really only one good win in Illinois
Florida has 5 losses including 2 to Missouri and TCU two teams not even close to being ranked. Florida is lucky to be in the top 20
Is Missouri bad? Asking for a friend...
The AP is more of a power ranking than a resume ranking. Florida could get hot and go on a run, sadly.
No unanimous #1 team this time, Zona
And until Arizona has a win which is as good as ISU’s win at Purdue (that UConn win keeps looking better and better, but it was a very close game and not everyone suited up for UConn) Zona might not get there. And that is ok. You guys deserve to be where you are, and getting first place votes is part of that.
We got 1 out of 61 votes so I don’t really feel like there’s some sort of reasoned split here. If we both go 2-0 this week, Arizona very well may get a clean sweep a week from now anyway.
Maybe, maybe not, it’s January. I’m thrilled that Arizona is ranked #1, but I’m also thrilled that another team in our conference is also undefeated, is ranked #2, and has some argument as to why it’s not unanimous.
honestly I'd just love a 1 seed for the tournament....would be happy for you guys too
I’ve always felt like Iowa state is just happy to be there, both in football and basketball.

It makes the win over them look even better, and feels supremely on brand for both ISU and Otz, that y’all could throw down in someone else’s house and both teams came away better for it.
we got a big one in Lawrence tomorrow though....wouldn't be surprised if Kansas plays out of their minds
I’m looking forward to watching that game. You can never turn your back on Kansas. ever.
AFH is a house of horrors.
That Florida win will count much higher as the season goes on…. Florida can beat anyone in the country. They are really good. Had some really tough losses vs. really good teams so far.
This matches Nebraska’s highest ranking in AP poll history, tied with Feb 21, 1966
Damn gotta hold on for another week
😌😌😌
Damn we jumped a lot. I ain’t mad about it. Tough stretch coming up though!
Its fun to be a winner
What will it take for us to get ranked :(
A Q1 win.
A week or two of winning and the bottom teams losing.
beating CMU, Buffalo, and Kent State by 10+ pts should do it. Also, Kansas , Tennessee, and Seton Hall losing. Also, it would be ideal for Wright State and Akron to keep winning
Don’t worry, you’re close
Approximately 90 more votes
C2CLONES !!!!
This has gone on much longer than I expected and I'm not sure what to do with this information
https://i.redd.it/qj7yf3x6nycg1.gif
Our first AP Top 10 (excl preseason) since 1993
We're once again having our success outshone by a red and white midwestern school.
Things you love to see. Go Aggies babyyy
Just a bunch of powerhouse #8asketball schools in the top 10.
Nothing to see here.
Just the traditional blue bloods of the sport. Totally to be expected.
Nebraska 🤝 Vanderbilt
I am glad that Purdue is finally being incorrectly recognized as a blue blood in the program!
By Eli Powells all time poll, the top 10 AP Polls are currently:
(1) Arizona: 6
(2) Iowa State: 49
(3) Uconn: 15
(4) Michigan: 13
(5) Purdue 16
(6) Duke: 2
(7) Houson 31
(8) Nebraska 120
(9) Gonzaga 20
(10) Vanderbilt 50
That is why the country is enjoying Nebraskas rise so much!
https://elipowell.com/all-time-ap-poll/
I know people currently probably think Iowa State is historically pretty good and while we've had some good seasons, we are historically pretty mediocre....but who cares?! We are freaking the 2nd ranked team in the country
I think we both know who to thank for this.
Fred "The Mayor" Hoiberg
Love Fred and happy he's doing well for you guys now....as long as he beats Iowa, he's good in my book.
Also really happy we have Otz. He's been so great for us.
Just dropped 1? Shit I’ll take it
After the CU game, yeah I'll take it.
rank those redhawks! rank those billikens!
This is crazy. My home town and the town of my birth

THE COWARDS RANKED US
LETS GOOOOO!
Rank us higher you cowards!
RANK THE UNDEFEATED BETTER MIAMI (OH) YOU COWARDS
Surprised Kansas actually fell out of the Top 25, 3 of their losses are to Top 15 teams and the other 2 are Q1 losses on the road.
Even then they still have wins over Tennessee, NCST, ND, Missouri, TCU, and Davidson already.
Their resume is eerily similar to Florida’s so far.
There are some very scary teams in that 10-20 range at this point in the season who are like 1 or 2 things clicking perfectly away from being imo in convo for the best team in country by seasons end.
Fun year tons of good teams
Glad Illinois keeps rising, and I expected Florida to be back in the top 25 but 19 seems a bit high idk, hope we can play up to it
We deserve no votes
I am straight up having a good time
Purdue just winning games . . . but somehow losing votes.
It's a little baffling that Michigan stayed ahead of us after losing to Wisconsin at home when we so recently beat Wisconsin by 16 at Wisconsin.
Imagine losing to Wisconsin lol
Big 1 2
Game against Utah was way too close for comfort. They seem to reliably play their best game of the year against us. I dunno that we needed to drop 2 spots after a win though.
We had the same win against Wisconsin that Nebraska had and clearly didn’t get any of the benefit.
Replace Utah with Iowa and I know exactly how you feel...
We dropped the same number of spots for not blowing out Utah on the road as Michigan dropped for losing at home to Wisconsin.
The Purdue disrespect is wild. Michigan should have dropped below Duke at least
The air is thin up here, trying to stay conscious. LFG Cyclones, beat fKU!
I’m sorry, how is Vanderbilt 2 spots behind Nebraska?
Also Tennessee being ranked is absurd.
NE8RASKETBALL
Vanderbilt is severely underrated
Unlike in football, there are enough games and enough playoff spots where I’m confident that will self-correct if it’s true (fwiw, I completely agree).
I honestly expected them to jump us. We had a great week but the top 11 teams are very crowded and no one is really losing.
Absolutely ridiculous Michigan isn't ranked #1 anymore.
I’ll be at Crisler on the 27th, can’t wait 😜
How? They lost
I was being sarcastic. But i did want an undefeated Nebraska v undefeated michigan match-up
Vandy has now been ranked in the Top 10 this year in football, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Your turn now, baseball, to prove people wrong.
Why? Why are we still ranked? Did the voters not watch this week of Vols basketball?
BOOOOOOO
Only dropped 2 spots, nice!
Tennessee being 4 spots behind Louisville after dog walking us at home

..hmmm
Tennessee being in the top 25 is a joke. We’re riding off of some early season wins, but since that 3-game losing streak in NC play, we look like we’ve forgotten how to dribble, pass, or inbound without turning the ball over. They need to unrank Tennessee, the cowards!
AND PEOPLE SAID SETON HALL WOULD BE DEAD IN THE NIL ERA.... THE FAT LADY HAS NOT SUNG YET!!!
Is the AP aware that they are voting on Basketball? Alabama Florida and Tennessee being ranked with 5 losses while there are plenty of 2 loss teams to consider is asinine.
It's about damn time
And then they put us one spot behind Georgia who practically has the same record as us and we beat on a neutral court.
Yeah annoyed by that but they will go .500 the next two weeks and be out of the poll soon. Most UGA fans would agree
ARIZONA AND THE IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY ARE UNDEFEATED AND RANKED #1 AND #2 RESPECTIVELY AND THEY SHALL REMAIN THAT WAY UNTIL THEIR MATCHUP IN TUCSON ON MARCH 2ND.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.
At least you didn’t beat Wisconsin by 28 and then drop 2 spots like us
Tied our highest ranking in history.
Seton hall ranked but not us, who beat them at their place. Ok
