I can actually see the logic there. Super close game throughout with UConn missing its best player and potentially another starter.
Edit: I wouldn’t put UConn ahead of Zona right now personally bc UConn hasn’t played with those players back yet. So it’s a bit unclear how hurt they were by those losses. Reed and Mullins need to show no lingering issues IMO.
I meant to add that I am not poo pooing UCONN at 6. That is well deserved. But this is the first poll that Heitz has us even in the top 10. He’s got it out for us
If I were voting, I would put Arizona at #2, purely because Purdue and Arizona are the best teams in the country at the moment. That’s why UConn doesn’t deserve to fall that much. The game against Bryant? Not our best.
If UConn had to lose, Arizona is a quality loss. That was a game between 2 top teams in my book and the better team definitely won.
Not to mention you guys were down 2 starters, which, IMO, more than makes up for home court advantage. Would love to do it again in late, late March with both teams at full strength! Good luck on the season!
Thank you! That is really true and we REALLY needed Reed. That said, you guys were prepared to play us no matter what and you used every single tool you had and well. It’s why after the game Hurley talked about how he wasn’t even upset about the loss.
I would LOVE to replay this game in March with both teams healthy and playing on a hot streak. That would be some exciting ball!
I think you’re going to flip the Big 12 on its head this year.
Makes me what a searchable website that you can put your team in and see who on the AP is the biggest outlier from the average for your team, week by week.
I used to vote in the College Club Lacrosse top 25 (yes that is a thing). I have a full time job that is not this, and also was coaching a team which was an additional half time job. I got super busy one week and didn't catch that X had beat Y and voted X slightly ahead of Y. I was not invited back as a pollster the following year. This is just silly. This is either significant bias, corruption or just shear laziness.
Oh my lord I stand corrected. Twenty two. A voter places Gonzaga at 22. Not entirely convinced anyone on this list actually watches every game or bare minimum highlights / recaps of games. I get this is from before last night, but if they watched Gonzaga highlights and said yeah that’s a 22 team, what are they even doing!
Lmao that's laughable. Maybe our guards turn it around, but so far we have a quality loss and a close win over FSU (who's a solid team but it was at home). Y'all beat us, UCLA, and UConn lol.
I haven't been following the votes, but perhaps inertia? Did these voters have U of A far lower every week so far? There is a philosophy that says you don't "overreact" to a trend, and for as great as U of A has been, it has only been a few games.
"Few games" that also happen to be.... Checks notes the best resume to date with wins over #3 on the road, #3 Neutral site, and #15 on the road.
I'm just giving ya a hard time! if Purdue didn't blow out TTech I would be itching for that #1 spot but I'm okay at #2. Will jump them soon enough with some more tough games on the horizon. 12/6 going to be a crazy day lots of ranked games
If they both win out I can see a scenario where the status quo remains the same through the rest of the calender year. Arizona has Alabama in Birmingham and Auburn at home plus a neutral site game against San Diego State in Phoenix. Purdue also has a game against Auburn in Indianapolis, a home game against Iowa State, a home game against Marquette alongside some conference games at Rutgers and at home against Minnesota.
Slight edge to Arizona perhaps for the Alabama game, but as I said, I could see a scenario where the status quo of the polls prevails.
Ha ha! I’d love to win out but that isn’t happening in the Big 12. We have Houston, BYU, Kansas, and Iowa State; sometimes twice. I’d like to win as much as we can and build up to strength at the end. The Big 12 tourney and ultimately the Big Dance are what matter.
Oh, I just meant the calender year, so just through December. After that you are absolutely right. Conference play tends to have even great teams stumble at times against lesser teams, and that isn't even mentioning dropping games against other conference title contenders like you said.
It takes paying a tiny bit of attention to the sport, which is too much to ask from AP voters, apparently. Maybe when football season is over they'll start to care, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
Arizona is without a doubt a top 3 team with a top 3 resumé and has a very strong argument for being #1. The Wildcats could beat the Thunder by 30 and a couple AP voters still wouldn't move you ahead of the other undefeated teams.
This ballot was submitted Sunday night, before Michigan's 40 point beat down of SDSU yesterday. None of those rankings were true for the Wolverines when he turned it in.
We had an 8 seed. In 2014, we had a 7 seed and beat 8 seed Kentucky in the NC. I was thinking you meant 2022-2023 when we went on the skid in January and couldn’t win a game in the Big East. Which was a nightmare.
UCLA has a good loss so it makes sense that they are ranked ahead of an undefeated team with multiple wins against teams in his own top 25 ballot. Looks like CFP rules have made their way to basketball now.
He clearly overvalued "quality losses" especially when some of the teams around us in his rankings are barely scraping by bad teams. Just going to assume some of these idiots, especially Borges, dont watch games OR look at box scores smdh
I wouldn’t call UConn losing to Arizona an overvalued quality loss. Or BYU. Alabama has played some great teams and lost tough ones and won huge ones. I think that’s pretty consistent with general consensus.
Agreed on Uconn and thats about it. Totally no bias on your that take from you tho lmao. Now do the teams that I referred to in my comment as "ranked near us". St John's, Florida, ucla, Illinois, oregon? Anything on their resumes besides quality loses?
I honestly wonder how much of it conscious, but the Big East is higher on Iowa State ahead of the St Johns game and the ACC is very low on us relative to others
Yeah this pole has overall been really good this year but I think Houston is a little over-ranked. Especially after that shaky Syracuse game. It's still early and I would not be shocked at all if they made me eat my words in a month or two, but for now they've looked more back half of the top 10 than anything.
Florida and Michigan (especially Mich the way they are playing) are WAAAYYY too low. Auburn too high for how inconsistent theyve been while working out the kinks with Steven. Missing UK completely, although I do think we should barely be ranked.
Auburns only “inconsistentcy” was the first game against BCU. Since then, beaten teams handily and lost by 1 to Houston. I don’t think Auburn should be 15 right now, depends on how they come out of the Players Era, but it’s not that crazy when most voters have Auburn 17-22 range.
His hatred of Arizona is one of the most bizarre things in sports. He refused to do any of their games for his last like 20 years calling games. He refused to hype their players no matter how good they were. He has done a lot for the sport but he’s an Arizona hater and should be called out for it.
ITT: a bunch of people who don't understand the concept of losing to a team that is objectively worse than you and thus shouldn't be ranked higher just for winning.
Kinda disagree: 6 games into the season it's really hard to justify a team ahead of a team it lost to head-to-head. I'm perfectly willing to say that a team might be favored in a future game against a team it lost to, and also push back against ranking them ahead, because rankings (usually) aren't purely predictive.
This is a series I've been doing on r/CollegeBasketball for 6 years, and now r/CFB for 10. The post attempts to visualize consistency between voters in the AP Poll in a single image. Additionally it sorts each AP voter by similarity to the group. Notably, this is not a measure of how "good" a voter is, just how consistent they are with the group. Especially preseason, having a diversity of opinions and ranking styles is advantageous to having a true consensus poll. Polls tend to coalesce towards each other as the season goes on.
You can view all weeks here, for other sports too. The AP has been having a lot of technical difficulties, and Men's Basketball has been struggling more than WBB or Football lately. The last few ballots did not become available until after midnight ET last night.
Trevor Hass was the most consistent voter this week. Chris Nee, Jackson Payne, Sam Rothman, Kate Rogerson, and Andrew Quinn are the most consistent on the season.
Randy Heitz was the biggest outlier this week. Dave Borges, Owen Siebring, David Jablonski, Jon Wilner, and Shane Mettlen are the biggest outliers on the season.
80+ year olds should be sitting in a rocking chair on their front porch and telling their great grand children to pull their finger. They should not be voting in congress… or voting in the AP poll.
Who are the clear top 3? UA and Purdue are clearly top 2, but Houston hasn't played themselves into that tier. At least not yet. And I'd like to see more from Duke. Considering last night, Zaga has much of an argument for 3rd as anyone.
I think it's perfectly legit to give Arizona the top spot. They beat a #3 Florida and a #3 UConn. It's going to be 6 of one, half a dozen of the other until mid December when there is some better apples-to-apples. We'll see if Arizona looks better against Alabama than Purdue did, and both Purdue and Arizona pick up Auburn to compare against too.
Shane mettlen from JMU is an 💩 head. He has so many good teams underrated and bad teams overrated. You’re not watching basketball and keeping up with rust/ heat, and underperforming and overperforming players they will regress to the mean and I bet his votes still will be all f’d up
Because there's about 75 teams better than they are and they haven't beaten anyone of significance. Their only ranked game, against then #10 Florida they lost. Nothing on their resume puts them in the top 25.
I'm curious why you think they should be top 10. Other than feelings.
I'd pick anyone in the top 15 over FSU. Rankings aren't based on hypotheticals and feelings - and once again you've failed to provide a reason they should be ranked. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
Is this a meme? I keep seeing FSU people (or maybe it's just the one) posting about how FSU should be ranked highly but nobody ranks them at all. What gives?
Imagine your most notable accomplishment being bounced from the tourney by a 16 seed as a 1, and you still get to be ranked above the team whose resume shits on yours by a country mile.
I imagine it more like dragging someone down with me. Sure I may hit the ground first, but there is a slight bit of schadenfreude in knowing you'll be next.
Arizona objectively has the better resume, but shits on ours by a country mile? please. Purdue's resume is closer to Arizona's than any other team is to Purdue.
Just games played so far, there are some pre-season bias numbers that could be playing a role, but these numbers only include the games played. Also, why was I downvoted? I just stated a fact?
Randy Heitz has MSU at 21 and UK at... 10?? After we just beat them handily lol
Oh, and has Arkansas 20th.
At least Borzello finally got his shit together.
Batshit
He has us at 5 and UCONN, who we beat at Gampel at 6.
That’s just ridiculous.
[deleted]
It’s the ONLY explanation.
Can confirm, I fucked Randy Heitz's mom in 1997.
I meant to add that I am not poo pooing UCONN at 6. That is well deserved. But this is the first poll that Heitz has us even in the top 10. He’s got it out for us
I definitely didn’t think you were.

Makes me what a searchable website that you can put your team in and see who on the AP is the biggest outlier from the average for your team, week by week.
I might be able to make something like this happen. I would need a spreadsheet of all the votes which I'm not really sure how to get.
Source: I work as a data engineer and web developer for a web hosting company. DM me if you know how to get this data.
I mean if you don't mind doing manual data entry, you could just search this subreddit for "All AP voter Ballots" sort by new and get to building lol.
He’s got Louisville at 3 so all is forgiven.
Gotta be residual love for Otega Oweh.
But he has Ole Miss ranked
Honestly, the AP Poll is just losing what remains of its minuscule credibility everytime they let this shit happen.
Voters with Gonzaga at 17-21 waking up today like
Oh my lord I stand corrected. Twenty two. A voter places Gonzaga at 22. Not entirely convinced anyone on this list actually watches every game or bare minimum highlights / recaps of games. I get this is from before last night, but if they watched Gonzaga highlights and said yeah that’s a 22 team, what are they even doing!
Maybe if we hadn't beaten Creighton so badly, they would still be ranked and be a more quality win 😅
Is that corn I smell? 🌽
Nebraska corn does have a stench to it, I wouldn't feed that to my hogs
Not nice to talk about your kids like that.
I was talking about their mother
Kevin Sjuts had Arizona...fourth?!? Behind Michigan?
[deleted]
So did Toyloy Brown
Lmao that's laughable. Maybe our guards turn it around, but so far we have a quality loss and a close win over FSU (who's a solid team but it was at home). Y'all beat us, UCLA, and UConn lol.
I don't really care about the AP Poll, nor will I lose my mind about being ranked fourth or fifth in general.
I'm just curious what it takes to not be ranked fourth or fifth. Would we have to go beat the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road?
I haven't been following the votes, but perhaps inertia? Did these voters have U of A far lower every week so far? There is a philosophy that says you don't "overreact" to a trend, and for as great as U of A has been, it has only been a few games.

The poll matters to recruiting for one thing, but a lot of other stuff too. Some of these people have no business voting given their clear bias.
It takes paying a tiny bit of attention to the sport, which is too much to ask from AP voters, apparently. Maybe when football season is over they'll start to care, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Im just glad he had us ranked..... wait
him and kevin mcnamara apparently didn’t watch the same michigan games we did
Don’t forget good ole Dickey V having us at 4. Shocked he didn’t have us 5.
Shocked he only put Duke at 3.
So did Dukie V.
Why us? We are #3 on Torvik and #5 on Kenpom. Our WAB is #4 right now
This ballot was submitted Sunday night, before Michigan's 40 point beat down of SDSU yesterday. None of those rankings were true for the Wolverines when he turned it in.
We were 5 on torvik, don't remember kenpom, but I think 9 or 10 on WAB but ok fair enough.
Kenpom we were 15 before last night
Gators at 4 in one of them lmao
It took like 9 weeks for voters to remove uconn from the top 25 after they went like 1 for 7. Voter inertia is real
Yet, we went on to win the NC, so go figure.
Didn't realize uconn won the natty last year, someone should let florida know to return the trophy.
We had an 8 seed. In 2014, we had a 7 seed and beat 8 seed Kentucky in the NC. I was thinking you meant 2022-2023 when we went on the skid in January and couldn’t win a game in the Big East. Which was a nightmare.
Then the one right under him at 19
Who’s the idiot who had Gonzaga at #22 lol. What a troll
Guy who put them 21 is Maryland affiliated… hopefully finds out more tonight how good Zags are
Yessir
I see Borges is still huffing glue…
UCLA has a good loss so it makes sense that they are ranked ahead of an undefeated team with multiple wins against teams in his own top 25 ballot. Looks like CFP rules have made their way to basketball now.
Borges isn’t out of line with most people.
He ranks us every week which I always find amusing and that makes him the best ranker.

Randy Heitz clearly doesn’t actually watch college basketball
Us at 21 and UK at 10, an absolute joke
And Arkansas at 20, quality Losses propping them up I guess
Yeah but he ranked Buffalo which is pretty rad, so he's got that.
Idk I kinda think he's cooking
If Purdue was 30-0, Dylan Sinn would still find someone to be “better”
Grow up, Dylan
100% true!!
Honestly, I'm shocked we are in his top 5.
Randy Heitz is a fucking douchebag.
He might be the worst ranker out there
Don’t forget Toyloy Brown!
Someone needs to tell Toyloy that Dickie V won't go down on him no matter how hard he tries.
I kinda like him /s
He's definitely cooking
Dude got dumped by an Arizona baddie years ago, and still hasn’t let it go
Thank you David Jablonski of Cox First Media. To the rest of you cowards - rank us!
Bc he's hedging a Dayton loss lol
I honestly wonder how much of it conscious, but the Big East is higher on Iowa State ahead of the St Johns game and the ACC is very low on us relative to others
Its wild that Houston got 1st place votes. They have done nothing to show they are number 1 while Purdue and Arizona have extremely strong resumes.
A lot of voters use the college football model where you don't drop unless you lose. Dumb, but usually at least consistent.
Dumb and lazy
Yeah this pole has overall been really good this year but I think Houston is a little over-ranked. Especially after that shaky Syracuse game. It's still early and I would not be shocked at all if they made me eat my words in a month or two, but for now they've looked more back half of the top 10 than anything.
Owen Siebring's ballot is....something
Go look at Randy heitz lmao
Why? I dont have any big problems with his top 15 selections. Yeah some are interesting but nothing crazy.
Florida and Michigan (especially Mich the way they are playing) are WAAAYYY too low. Auburn too high for how inconsistent theyve been while working out the kinks with Steven. Missing UK completely, although I do think we should barely be ranked.
The egregious ones are Florida/Mich/Auburn tho
Auburns only “inconsistentcy” was the first game against BCU. Since then, beaten teams handily and lost by 1 to Houston. I don’t think Auburn should be 15 right now, depends on how they come out of the Players Era, but it’s not that crazy when most voters have Auburn 17-22 range.
He got killed here recently for having Arizona at 1 prior to beating UCONN. I’d say his opinions are just as good as anyone’s at this point.
Nebrasketball shall rise.
Don't tell anyone but I had them at #3 this week.
We got Payne back, would be huge if we steal a win tonight over Gonzaga to hit early rankings
I'm looking forward to our game tonight! Gonzaga has looked awfully good so far this year
Dave Borges remains the smartest man in basketball.
Yes, puts Oregon at 15th who just lost to Auburn.
Doesn’t rank Auburn lol
Dylan Sinn stays showing his ND and IU bias, dropping Purdue to #2 after they beat #14 TT by 30.
A few weeks ago he had Purdue at like #15 or some shit.
Grow up Dylan
Hmmmm
Jackson Payne my GOAT
Ok State out here with 1 lone vote. Let's go!
Dylan Sinn is the name of a porn star and no one can tell me different
How does Randy Heitz have both teams that we beat ranked above us lol?
Well Arkansas lost to the team that beat UK by 20 so kinda understable. We don't have any quality losses.
I want whatever Borges is smoking
3rd straight week appreciating Dave Borges
It's going to be a 4 dog fight for quite a while until somebody loses.
… did kevin mcnamara watch the same games we did?
I'm just happy someone thought about us.
The amount of voters having UofL behind Bama and Florida is staggering
The amount of voters having UofL behind Bama and Florida is staggering. Also Burges having UofL at 15 is laughable.
Jeff Rabjohns has my ultimate respect.
If Nebraska manages to get ranked in the next couple of weeks do you think the mods will finally unfade our flair?
Na fuck it leave it faded
Unfortunately, as long as it's funny, there is nothing we can do. :(
3 votes baby fuck ya
Keep doubting us

Bruce, why you wanna hurt my feelings
Bruce Pascoe is - interesting.
Dave Borges not ranking Tennessee seems strange. I guess we’ll see after this week’s tournament in Vegas.
Why is it strange? He has the worst picks on the list for the season. Ranked on the bottom
I guess it wasn’t. I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Bro, has Oregon 15 and doesn’t ranked Auburn who just beat Oregon lol
I’d like some of what Randy Heinz and Toyloy Brown are smoking.
Toyloy Brown’s rankings drive me insane.
Gonzaga salutes the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette.
Interesting. Thanks
Kevin sjuts no longer has us ranked 😔
So happy to see no votes for Clemson.
I do like how all the people everyone's calling out in these comments are at the bottom of the list. Clearly shows why they're there.
Friendship ended with (anyone who has Illinois outside the top 10). (Anyone who has Illinois in the top 10) is my best friend now
ITT: a bunch of people who don't understand the concept of losing to a team that is objectively worse than you and thus shouldn't be ranked higher just for winning.

actually insane that vandy is ranked in both cfb and cbb and isn't a top five sec team in either poll
Why does Bob Ballou despise trains?
He's very clearly a cat person though given where he has Mizzou.
Kentucky is too high
Why are there 3 voters affiliated with Duke?
Take the affiliations with a grain of salt. It's a mix of beat and Alma mater.
Whoever is putting Houston at 1 is smoking crack.
I want some of whatever Randy Heitz is smoking, maybe I’d feel better about our season so far
CJ Moore salty af
Ranking Duke #8 is diabolical lol
This is a series I've been doing on r/CollegeBasketball for 6 years, and now r/CFB for 10. The post attempts to visualize consistency between voters in the AP Poll in a single image. It bothers me that the voters are not sorted alphabetically. It takes soooooo long to find the dumb picks that 86 yo Dick Vitale makes
They're sorted by average delta from the poll on the season. Vitale has a pretty normie poll and is usually near the top.
I think this might be more of a 'Dick Vitale bad' thing than anything that accepts emprically observable reality.
80+ year olds should be sitting in a rocking chair on their front porch and telling their great grand children to pull their finger. They should not be voting in congress… or voting in the AP poll.
These are two very different things bud lmao
Unrank us cowards
Wild. A week when nobody ranks any of the clear top 3 teams outside of the top 5? I never though I'd see...
Oh, hi there Dylan. You never fail to confuse me.
Who are the clear top 3? UA and Purdue are clearly top 2, but Houston hasn't played themselves into that tier. At least not yet. And I'd like to see more from Duke. Considering last night, Zaga has much of an argument for 3rd as anyone.
Dylan putting Gonzaga in top 3 is one of the few things in this week’s polling that actually does add up and makes sense.
There’s 1000% an argument Gonzaga can be in top 3 over Houston.
Both IU guys with Arizona ahead of Purdue
I think it's perfectly legit to give Arizona the top spot. They beat a #3 Florida and a #3 UConn. It's going to be 6 of one, half a dozen of the other until mid December when there is some better apples-to-apples. We'll see if Arizona looks better against Alabama than Purdue did, and both Purdue and Arizona pick up Auburn to compare against too.
I didn’t say they shouldn’t be at 1, it’s just fitting 2/11 pollsters with them at 1 are IU sources
Bob Ballou can eat a fat one.
Shane mettlen from JMU is an 💩 head. He has so many good teams underrated and bad teams overrated. You’re not watching basketball and keeping up with rust/ heat, and underperforming and overperforming players they will regress to the mean and I bet his votes still will be all f’d up
TIL IU knob-licker Peegs.com has an AP vote. WTF?

He actually gave us #1 votes the previous two weeks fwiw. He didn't submit a preseason ballot.
John Johnson better give Purdue some respect, they had an entire ball room of Purdue fans cheering for his team because of Myles Colvin😂
Not sure why Tony Paul is listed with Michigan affiliation. He’s an MSU grad/fan that covers both schools
The AP poll means nothing but imagine having Arizona’s resume which is historic and not being #1, I’m just saying.
[removed]
You lost to a no 10 Florida. Who themselves are overrated.
[removed]
This guy is a straight up fucking troll. The comment history is straight up clown garbage
You haven’t played Oakland.
Because there's about 75 teams better than they are and they haven't beaten anyone of significance. Their only ranked game, against then #10 Florida they lost. Nothing on their resume puts them in the top 25.
I'm curious why you think they should be top 10. Other than feelings.
[removed]
KenPom has you at #65, Tvorik at #76. Once again would like to hear one good reason why they should be top 25? Much less top 10.
[removed]
I'd pick anyone in the top 15 over FSU. Rankings aren't based on hypotheticals and feelings - and once again you've failed to provide a reason they should be ranked. Enjoy your Thanksgiving.
Florida sucks.
In the spirit of shit talking, didn't Arizona lose in the first round to a 15 seed that same year?
It’s too late, Herby, we’re all shitting on Dick Vitale now.
Besides, losing to a 15 seed is objectively better than losing to a 16 seed. That’s a self own.
I imagine it more like dragging someone down with me. Sure I may hit the ground first, but there is a slight bit of schadenfreude in knowing you'll be next.
But yeah, Dick Vitale's poll is utter trash.
Imagine being this pissy over being ranked 2 rather than 1 on November 25.
There aren't many things that mean less.
I’m just bringing some diversity to the list of Arizona fan complaints.
You want another “Fuck Dick Vitale” for the pile?
I'd upvote that
Arizona objectively has the better resume, but shits on ours by a country mile? please. Purdue's resume is closer to Arizona's than any other team is to Purdue.
It’s much closer than most think, Purdue has a higher NCSOS on kenpom.
Does that include all NC, or just games played so far? Having ISU & Auburn still to come could be a factor there
Just games played so far, there are some pre-season bias numbers that could be playing a role, but these numbers only include the games played. Also, why was I downvoted? I just stated a fact?
