Has anyone been to the Wild Winter Lights at the zoo this year? I am looking at going to the walk through and am wondering if it is worth the $30 a person.

  • It is a bit pricey, but I try to look at it a bit like a donation to the zoo/metroparks, which do a lot of positive in the community through their park system, and globally through animal/habitat research/awareness/support. So, I'm essentially making a donation with the added perk of a fun activity.

But strictly from a cost standpoint, it is on the high side, but it is fun to walk around the zoo at night, potentially seen an animal or 2 in the dark, and see a lot of nice Christmas lights. So, it depends how you value that. Obviously, there are a lot of places you can just go to look at lights for free (car ride, downtown public square, coe lake, etc....). If you've been to Asian lantern festival, its not as good as that, if you want a comparison. Also, as it gets close to Christmas (or on a weekend) it can get extremely crowded. Shoulder to shoulder at parts, which can be a turnoff for some.

This is exactly what I came here to say. So I second what you said!

  • It’s pretty neat to go if you haven’t seen it already but the replay value isn’t the greatest.

  • It helps support the zoo so sure why not

  • I went last year and it was well worth the money!

  • We love the winter lights. We did the drive thru for the first time this year and I prefer walking around. The drive thru is packed, takes over an hour to get into the park, and is over very quickly. If you walk through you can see some of the animals and it’s a lot longer. I may be bias because I love the zoo.

  • I think it’s very worth it if it had snowed that day or is actively snowing. It definitely loses some of the magic without snow. But still a fun time no matter what!

  • It was my first time this year and it was nice and worth the money. As someone else said it’s really more of a donation. As a heads up, eat and drink elsewhere. Again, don’t mind donating, but the coffee drinks were expensive and bad.

  • It's cool and well done but very much not worth the price imo

  • It’ll probably be crowded. I know they just extended their drive thru portion from Jan 2-January 4, and that is only $60 per vehicle. There’s probably parts that are missed when driving but definitely more cost effective if you have a carful of people with you.

The drive thru is nearly identical path to the walk thru. It’s designed with decent intent to be viable for both drivers and walkers.

  • I'd would never. That's grocery money
