But remember that they are under time pressure here, they wanted to guarantee tower down, not get a good elixir trade, as if they don't take the tower, they lose instantly. Placing the skelly barrel either in the pocket or at least before the hog increases the chances of tower down.
hog moves faster therefore should be placed first to take down as fast as possible. In the pocket the skelly barrel will die before exploding on tower to save hog from 3 princess arrows.
If you place skeleton barrel first and hog 0.1 seconds after, as the hog jumps over the bridge it'll tank for skeleton barrel and your push will be 0.1 second slower.
3 additional hits on the Hog from the princess tower is worse than not getting death damage from placing the barrel in the pocket. You get very close with the barrel still, so the skeletons easily reach the tower, and Hog has full health as well, which gives you 2 or 3 extra hits.

You should place the skelly barrel ahead of the hog rider, then it'll tank for it and still reach the tower. Didn't matter here though.
