My first impression of Undertale was from the darkest side of the fandom, so it took me a long time to actually give it a try. But I learned that there's more to it than cringy Sans-centered AUs.
Understandable reaction considering the fandom. This is standard. Looking at your likely age group, he is also probably at the age where it feels cool to hate mainstream things. This is also standard. There is no way around this, and I suggest not bringing UTDR up around him. Without provocation, such behavior will falter. He will find his way here eventually, on his own time.
Every time you see him talk about how good undertale is tell him the story and some fun facts make him listen to the songs of deltarune and make him watch you playing both games
