So I think that I want to start an occasional discussion on some of the most pressing topics in mankind.
What is that one question which has been on your mind constantly? What is that one answer you believe could help you in some way but it keeps alluding you?
If you had an audience with God for just 5 minutes and you were only able to ask him one single question during that time, what would it be?
Would love to hear your thoughts.
What's the deal with things like mosquitoes, venomous snakes, child cancer, ebola, etc?
Is all that really necessary?
Or Horsehair Worms that make their hosts drown themselves. Or the Wasps that lay their eggs in their victims so the young can have a meal when they hatch?
Or Bindy's - a small Australian weed that is everywhere but seems to be purposely designed to have it's sharp seeds stick in kids feet as a punishment for walking on the lawn.
And gnats.
When my daughter was little she hated things like that too. I remember that we had a conversation about it one day. She couldn't understand why things like that existed. My response to her was that I believed that God created everything for a purpose even if we may not see it. I told her that if it wasn't for some of those things we hate, the world would not even be able to function. I told her that even mucus had a function. She thought I was crazy. She laughed and asked what that function was. Instead of telling her, I challenged her to figure it out for herself. I told her to think about it and that whenever she came to me with an answer I would tell her whether she was right or not. (This was the pre-AI age mind you).
Over the course of the next several months she came with different guesses but none were right. Eventually, years passed. Finally 12 years later when she was in high school she came with the correct answer. She had just learned about it in her biology class.
Sometimes things may seem meaningless but I can assure you that everything God created has some purpose or some function...even if we may not realize it yet.
I love this idea. Most people walk around with a quiet ache or a quiet question, and they never get the space to actually voice it.
If I had five minutes with God and only one question… I think I’d ask something simple but massive:
“What do You wish I understood about You that would change the way I see everything else?”
Because half of our anxiety, confusion, and fear comes from seeing God through the wrong lens. One moment of clarity about who He actually is would probably untangle a lifetime of knots.
But I’m really curious what others will say. Everyone’s question reveals something different their wounds, their hopes, their confusion, their longing.
This could be a meaningful thread.
the thing that changed how i see everything (and made me turn to Jesus) was that God showed me/told me, "I love you. I love you more than anything, and I love you no matter what you do or have done."
I truly denied that truth beforehand and thought it was actually impossible. He told me - showed me, made me feel the love. God IS Love. I didn't believe that to be possible, but its exactly what the Bible says - what Jesus said, and showed us!
Yes truly realizing his love for us did it for me as well ❤️
My question for God would be... what do you want from me? I'm doing my best to serve you. What's my divine mission? I guess thats two questions.
Thanks Armorfied.
That is a really good question btw. It's deep and really hits at the core of the problem I think.
I think we can even expand your question out a little further to include everybody in the world. I mean when you really think about it, almost everybody misunderstands God. I'd say the atheists misunderstand him the worst. Then the pagans. Then the agnostics. Then most of the believers even...and even when you work your way up to the greatest of saints...they also misunderstand some things about God as well.
I mean let's face it, none of us are omniscient like he is.
You're question also tackles the heart another major problem believers have had throughout history: martyrdom.
In a perfect society, the righteous would be celebrated and rewarded accordingly for their deeds...while at the same time, the unjust would be looked down upon and punished for their actions....however, that's not the world we live in, is it? Instead people like Jesus, almost all of the apostles and saints after them were put to death for doing the right thing...while the people who did the wrong things were actually rewarded in this world with fame, money and power.
If people saw with their hearts rather than their eyes and heard with their spirit rather than their ears, we would live in a utopia...but because of willful ignorance and a desire to sin, injustice and inequality prevails.
well for starters he is always around you He never leaves he is always there around you, let me say this again (AROUND YOU ALWAYS).
It is us who thinks He is not, but He is.
All we have to do is ask Him you can even say show me and He will, but do we pay attention, because at times it is answered quickly other times it could take years, but are we paying attention.
When you hear someone say keep your focus on Jesus this means they have experience, with him meaning they have a strong communication with Him, praises, prayers, and doing things that are right He does like, but what he loves the most is acknowledgement talking to him as if He is right next to you because he is, we just don't realize it.
When it is said in the bible and I'll give you the verses.
Matthew 18:3-5 KJV.
And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as the little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
Children normally ask someone who is older than them about things like their parents, or someone in the family, when they want to know something or have something fixed.
It is the same thing with God.
You know the phrase by faith not by sight.
When you hear the bible verse of the muster seed you know that seed is very hard and resilient and is very tiny, but it grows into a large tree, so if we have faith that God is right next to us and that we can call upon him any time of day or night for answers all we have to do is pay attention after that because it can happen really quickly, or it could take days, weeks, month, or years.
but you'll get answer.
I hope this helps, and may you who read this have a blessed day.
I would ask Him who drowned my precious puppy, Sheba, while I was gone to Sunday School.
I'm sorry. That's terrible that happened.
Two avocados for ten bucks?
Where are you getting your avos? It's two for two quid (about four bucks) over here.
Why did he create so many different races?
That's a good one too. It seems so simple at first but then one one really thinks about it, it does become a significant question.
I think if we use logic alone we may be able to answer that one though. Let's investigate the crux of your question. What is race? How can we define it? Most importantly, would God define it the same way?
Here's what I believe: Race is only a human construct. I don't believe God sees people the same way we as humans do.
If you pulled a person from every country and put them in front of God, I don't think God would be noticing skin color or ethnicity. Instead he would recognize each of them as the person they are. Our skin color or where we were born does not make us who we are. Our personality, wants, desires, achievements, etc are what make us who we are...and that's what God sees.
I think humans tend to view people and classify people based on their own biases while God does not have biases and instead sees each person as an individual regardless of what "circumstances" or "characteristics" might be "seen" by us.
'What did the dinosaurs do to piss you off?'
More seriously, I think my first question would be similar to the one I ask most people; 'Lord, how can I help?'
The Lord gives you that answer in His word. Read your Bible. It's a holy guidebook for your life. As the psalmist said, "Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path" Psalm 119:105 NIV
Will you have mercy on me?
Didn't God already answer that question when he died and rose again in reparation for our sins?
That depends 100% on what you do regarding Jesus Christ. Turn to Him in repentance and faith, and make Him Lord of your life (instead of yourself), and you will be righteous before God. If you fail to do those things, you will find no mercy.
I wouldn't ask him anything. I would want to stay in this world with everyone else---just having the same experience as everyone else.
I know it seems like it would be cool, but if you think about it long enough, I think you might come to the same conclusion.
Would you really want to know "which came first the chicken or the egg?". Even thinking about that scares the crap out of me.
The chicken did
That being said, God did come to me in a dream and told me where Jimmy Hoffa was buried. He said that in the middle of the night, a large oil drill was brought into Wrigley Field. Evidently, they drilled deeper than anyone has ever drilled before right in the middle of the stadium and put Jimmy's body there.
God suggests they should probably slowly scrape out that field like a quarry over time and just work their way down until they find him. Hell or Hoffa should be the slogan. You know for the family.
I'm pretty sure this is on the up'n up. I really feel for the people of Chicago. I'm from St. Louis, so you know as rivals, it also makes us like family.
I hope they find Jimmy. Jimmy was a teamster. Unless they start digging soon, the teamsters might really cause problems, like a national slow down. We don't need that at Christmas!
Hell or Hoffa!
Someone has accused me of being sarcastic?! Well to be honest, that hurts. To prove my sincerity, as soon as the digging gets started, I will personally appeal to the St. Louis Cardinals to send all the workers FREE Cardinal baseball hats to help shade them from the heat while they work and remind the folks in Chicago that we stand with them during their trying time :)
It’s this kind of snark I love. I love that God has created this. He has created us in His image, so we know He’s got a grand sense of humor.
Hey God gave himself the middle name laughter!
He's the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
He did it to himself :)
I would ask them, why do we hiccup
lol. That's an interesting one I haven't heard.
Well we don't know! That and where do sea eels go to mate? We have no idea
I have an audience with GOD every day all day through JESUS. And I always get the answer. It may take a day or so, or even a week , month or more, but I know HE will answer when the time is right.
So I don't understand how the thought of not already being able to speak directly to God is a relevant question.
Guyssss, God is literally around you and always with you. You have very given opportunity to ask Him things you’d like answers to. He will answer. maybe not immediately but He will! I ask him question everyday and always end up with an answer one way or another 🌸
Honestly, just getting an answer at all would already answer my most pressing questions. I think I could live better just knowing God exists.
Why isn't pokemon real
"Is synthetic a priori knowledge for real?"
Is life going to get better
God already answered that one. He has amazing things in store. Read Chapters 20,21, and 22 in Revelation
If I’m supposed to tell people about Christ and share the gospel with them, why make it so hard for me to talk to people?
Also, why do lemons get ripe in the fall? We need lemonade in the summer!
I can answer the second question. Cold weather triggers sugar production to ripen. Hard freezes can wipe crops out, so the window for harvesting is short if the temps are diving. You can protect your citrus from hard freezes by spraying water on the tree to freeze a layer of ice that insulates the fruits temporarily. Many farmers won't harvest until the first frost has happened, but waiting longer could be the end of the crop.
Many lemons usually are ripening all year though.
Not looking for the scientific explanation here. I’m curious why God designed it so we don’t get fresh lemons when we are most in need of lemonade.
You don't want a real answer then, you want a comfortable fable instead...
Correct. And I won’t actually be asking God such a trivial thing.
And why would god answer a person, not interested in the truth?
