Very true. We used to make forts in a strip of woods behind my friend's house and he had the bright idea of setting up traps one day. He rigged a brick to fall from about 10ft if a log was kicked. He then decided to test it. It worked! He got a concussion.

My brother and I were building yet another tree fort. We had a rule you yelled "Timber!!" if you were dropping anything. I heard "Timber!" looked up, and got hit in the head with a hammer. I ran like 20 steps then fell down. slight concussion.

Another time while my sister as in her piano lesson, I went in the backyard of my piano teacher's home, and climbed a tree. I would swing on a branch up there then come flying off. I wanted to impress my teacher and my mom and sister after the lesson. I told them to come out so I could show them something. I swang on that branch real good, the biggest swings yet, and did a big release at the swings apex. Except instead of landing on my feet like a cat I swung too much and landed flat on my back from 12 feet up. First time the wind had been knocked out of me and I thought I was dying for sure as I lay on the ground writhing in agony. Nobody did anything to help that I can remember, I think they were stunned and just watched me. After about 10 seconds I got my breath back.

I don't think there is? If you go frame by frame it doesn't seem to jump and you can actually see the kid hit the ground. Looks like the rope was longer than the tree was tall.

This is how I discovered what the phrase ā€œgetting the wind knocked out of youā€ meant as a child. My friends thought I was dying and carried me into my house so I wouldn’t have to die outside in the dirt. Good times.

  • 1 points Subject-Tank-6851

My brother once did the same from a 2,5 - 3 meter tall tree. He wanted to make a zipline, whoch he hooked straight into the grass. Yes, the zipline instantly gave up as he tried launching himself which ended in him getting 7-8 stiches in his eyebrow and a broken shoulder. We still laugh at the stupidity till this day.

When I was growing up, if I thought something looked fun but dangerous, I would convince a stupid kid to do it first. This is why.

One time, I found a recycling bin at the local playground. In my kid brain, recycling bin + slide = roller coaster. So I found a stupid kid, who required no convincing to ride the recycling bin down the slide. This was a slide on a jungle gym that was built in the 70s or 80s, when people didn’t care if kids got hurt. So the kid gets impressive speed as she descends the slide in the recycling bin. Once she got the end, the recycling bin tipped forward, and she did a high-speed face-plant into the sand.
